the location was superb. The room was impressive with a confortable bed and excellent facilities which compensated the lack of 'garden views'. The breakfast was fine, although the 'full breakfast' could have offered a bit more. The poached eggs were at times like boiled eggs..overall a good selection of fresh fruit, lovely croissants and cereals
the Afternoon Tea was a bit disappointing. The sandwiches were thin and basic, the cakes nothing special. No 'plain' scones, so left one of them. The strawberry with a rock solid chocolate, not a liquid one. The coffee Americano came like a very long Espresso coffee which we had to send back. The champagne was good, but for that price we expected more .

Ended up here for two nights almost by accident due to a sudden work trip. I could have gone back and forth to home, but I couldn't be bothered. The first thing was what a quiet location the hotel is set in. It's a park. I'd just rammed some washed shirts in a rucksack, so the iron and ironing boards in the room were a great help. Both evenings I just had soup and a sandwich. All perfect. The breakfast was great with several hot and cold choices, including full English, eggs benedict, kippers etc. The hotel was quiet, which I understand is normal most weekdays. It's a wedding venue at weekends. So the room was quiet, and I got plenty of sleep, which for me in hotels is rare.
The only thing I didn't like was the automatic adding of gratuity onto the final bill at check out. It's fine the staff telling you they can remove it if you like, but this places you in an embarrassing position. For my part, I left it on, but our company doesn't cover these types of costs, so I personally paid £30 Gratuity. This will influence me going back again.

The hotel is beautifully situated with all-round panoramic views of the North York Moors. The drive to the hotel is a long one and well wooded, making it a very pleasant drive. Though caution needs to be taken as it is not a straight road nor very wide. Breakfast was excellent as was dinner, well cooked, well served and a decent variety of dishes. They also looked after my wife who is both lactose and gluten free (what a combination!). The staff were wonderful, couldn't do enough for us. The waitresses never forget that my wife must not have the foodstuffs previously mentioned.
Everything.

The location was lovely. Very peaceful and scenic. The cooked breakfast was of good quality and was well cooked. the staff were very attentive and friendly. The lounge areas were very comfortable and nicely decorated. The beds were comfortable and towels and bedding were nicely laundered. There was plentiful hot water at all times and water pressure was good in the room.
At times there was lack of attention to detail such as no ice in the water jug at dinner, the breakfast buffet was very basic with the fruit salad compromising of chopped apple and a few grapes. The room needed a little TLC with paintwork needing refreshing in places. The window in the bathroom was wedged open with a block of wood. At 5' 8" I struggled with the height of the ceiling when showering

Lovely hotel in a great location. Fantastic garden. We had an Afternoon Tea and starter and main for dinner at night. All were absolutely superb. The staff were all very pleasant and polite.
Unfortunately breakfast was a let down. No fruit or pastries and they ran out of smoked salmon and white bread. Yoghurts had to be topped up and then weren’t again. Every guest asked for something, only to be told that was it. Items ran out well before the end of service. Guests had to ask for bowls and many people were taking butter and jam off other tables. All staff members seem to cover the bar but nobody seemed to have the required knowledge that you would expect in a 4 staff hotel. Didn’t know brands of gin and nothing other than a slice of lemon to go with it. I would have expected the relevant garnishes. Also no brandy but not convinced that wasn’t just because they didn’t know where it was.

The staff were very friendly and attentive The room was lovely and warm, and also very clean
No lunch menu available so we had to choose a sandwich from the afternoon tea menu This was a very basic sandwich with a few crisps and was £8.75 which is very expensive The hotel is cashless, but the credit card machine didn't always work, so not ideal

We visited for a weekend break away. Lovely quaint hotel, all the staff were very polite and courteous. The food was enjoyed immensely. We had a room overlooking the amazing gardens at the rear, very quiet. Fantastic location.
The mattresses on the beds were very uncomfortable. They were very, very soft but also felt like they had had their day. The pillows were also very uncomfortable and really thin. We didn't have comfortable sleep unfortunately.

This is a very nice hotel in a good location for our road trip. The food was well cooked and presented. The room was nice and well appointed.
As we were staying in a garden room, on a fairly hot day, It would have been nice to have opening windows rather than just relying on the velux but this was only really a minor point.

Location, staff, decor, grounds
Whilst the breakfast was good, our evening meal was variable. The risotto was stodgy and tasteless and the rice pudding like a glutinous mass. To be fair we didn't tell anyone about the risotto and the waitress happily replaced the rice pudding with an alternative desert.

Loved the atmosphere and the style of the building! Very friendly staff, and very efficient. particularly Diane and Emily, who made sure we had everything we needed in the restaurant. Lovely location in a woodland estate and a historic mansion. The Table d'Hote dinner our first evening was especially to our taste, and good value at 29.95 GBP each for three courses and a dish of nibbles. We had the beetroot-cured seatrout with pickled cucumber and game terrine for starters, and the braised lamb with Pommes Anna and a beetroot jus. All delicious and beautifully presented. Only room for ice-cream afterwards! Our second night was as good with a delicious home-made tomato and bayleaf soup, followed by corn-fed chicken breast on a bed of spinach and with roast carrot/terrine of potato, followed by sorbets and a vanilla panna cotta blackberries. Our breakfasts were to match - day 1 a superb kipper for my wife and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon for me , day 2 the eggs/salmon again and Eggs Benedict, all with the usual extras of juices/cereals/ yogurt/fruits. Big portions! Our room was rather snug, and a bit brown in decor, but was fully functioning - even to the tea tray with a perfectly-sized teapot for the two cups!
Wish the room had been a bit more spacious - but was as booked. Under the eaves which meant for me at 6ft 4in a perilous time at the washbasin!
