Beautiful, historic building. The room and bathroom was large and the beds were comfy. Elegantly decorated. Loved the beams and the creaky floor boards. It was a privilege to stay there even for a small while. The coffee station was excellent with really good quality tea and coffee supplied.

Nothing that was in the host's control (possibly lack of information on Booking.com website?)- the large slipper bath was a super idea but both my mother and I have mobility issues and the lack of the shower was a small issue. Only minor because we only stayed for one night.

Lovely stay staff were excellent and very friendly couldn’t do enough for you. Room was really nice loved the ceiling in our room bed was so comfortable and big shower room was excellent. Lovely tea and coffee in the room and robes as well. No parking is the only negative but even that is being picky it’s basically a 2 minute walk once you’ve dropped your suitcase off to the free parking round the corner! Lots of lovely shops near by and beach is a 10 minute walk if that.

All the period features

We stayed in the James ll room, fantastic! Amazing to be able to stay in a room with so much history and a 15th century ceiling. Very comfortable, spacious and all good. Parking (free) is a short walk away, but not a problem, although I could imagine it being a bit full during high season. Easy to drop bags at the rear of the property. We ate in the restaurant which was equally fantastic. Food, service and wine were all wonderful. I would come back just for the monkfish wellington! Highly recommended.

The breakfast room was charming and the breakfast was excellent. Great local products used and well presented. The bedding and mattress were really great quality, and the coffee and tea facilities were also high end quality.

Wouldn't say 'didn't like' BUT noticed that there were a lot of cobwebs and dust in the breakfast room. shame that it hadn't been attended to. Also in the bathroom, the soap container on the sink area was half full on arrival..maybe it should of been 'topped up' before we arrived...first impressions count. The Garden Room which we stayed in had a beautiful chair but maybe too large for the size of the room as the fireplace was completely hidden by the chest of drawers.

Garden room was excellent with the patio and furniture to sit outside as the weather was wonderful. Step in shower was lovely. Evening meal at the restaurant exceptional. Lovely couple of days stay in sunny Southwold.

The patio area could have had a sweep and clean and the planters having a few flowers in as it would really brighten up the area and be in line with the room for cleanliness.

Excellent location, walking distance from everything including free on street parking

A little noisy in the morning, our room was right at the back directly next to the main door to the rooms. When other guests were going down to breakfast and chatting it did sound almost like they were in the room with us. We were awake anyway so it was not an issue for us, but it may be for some.

A beautiful old building with splendid rooms, well furnished to a high quality. The location is excellent. For those who appreciate history this hotel is a wonderful example of 'old England'.

There is no reception; although the instruction to find the key was very clear. The noise from the restaurant below and the main road were at times distracting. The lack of breakfast, especially when the price of staying is high. There was no parking provided so it was necessary to find off street parking locally and walk through the town.

Everything, the check in system was excellent,our room key was in a box, which we had a code to, the room was excellent, bed comfortable, room very clean, good choice of good quality tea and coffee in the room, nice towels, the hotel bar was very friendly with an amazing plastered ceiling, the host was very friendly and helpful, and a superb breakfast.

Centrally located, lovely character and fabulous breakfast. Bed was very comfy. Tea, coffee facilities great quality.

Beautiful roll top bath but the shower attachment didn’t have much power. Seagulls v noisy in early morning but that’s the seaside for you! In our room we could smell all the cooking for the restaurant.

Quirky, historical, not-a-hotel-but-a-restaurant-with-rooms, lovely.  It's hard to pigeon hole Sutherland House. Host Andy is one of the nicest guys around; chef Kinga's home made black pudding at breakfast is awesome; and special mention also to Tracey and Sam, who tidy up when you're out and about. Thoroughly enjoyed our time at Sutherland House, thank you; we'll be back! Oh, and the beds are super comfy!
