I recently had the pleasure of staying here at The Sailmaker’s House, it truly exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere was incredibly quiet and quaint, it definitely offered a peaceful hideaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Even though it wasn’t a bed and breakfast, it had a similar cozy, homey feel.I appreciated the small lobby, which provided a wonderful space to relax. It was stocked with an array of snacks, coffee, and tea, making it a lovely spot to unwind. One of the highlights of our stay was Christmas morning, when we enjoyed playing Rummikub by the beautifully decorated Christmas tree. It really added to the festive atmosphere and made our holiday feel special. Even though we did not have a fridge in the room, there was a fridge in the “lobby” where we could label our own items and use them when needed; this was also a great touch—it made storing snacks and drinks easy and hassle-free. Also, I have to add, this hotel was conveniently located to the Strawbery Banke Museum, Readmoor Books and Brew, many other historical places and restaurants. Overall, this hotel offered a delightful experience. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, clean, and welcoming place to stay.

This property is a bit strange as there are no staff to greet you on site. Instead you are issued with a keycode for the front door and for your room. This worked extremely well and the insutructions supplied were quite clear and easy to follow. The room was excellent, clean and conmfortable. The common lobby/lounge area had coffee making facilities with plenty of supplies and a number of grab and go items for breakfast. The location is great as it is right next to Strawberry banke which is a local tourist attraction. The center of Portsmouth is a short walk away. I would stay here again.

I was delighted to see how nicely this boutique hotel was decorated. It felt welcoming. Getting inside the hotel was simple once I received the instructions by text. The location itself was great and easily walkable to restaurants and bars. The room was clean and bed was very comfortable.
The only thing I wasn't too excited about was the loud knocking noises at 3 or 4 in the morning. I'm somewhat of an easily spooked person, so I hid under the covers for a few hours. But rest assured, I'm sure they were friendly spirits....lol. Other than that, I would totally recommend this place.

My husband just loved the bed. He had a great night's sleep. We were within walking distance of most things we had planned for Portsmouth. Although we had no interaction with staff members during the visit, they were VERY responsive via text. Snacks, coffee, water, etc. were available on the first floor. The common area was nice. You don't even need a key or keycard. Just a punch in code. How handy.

The location was superb for walking with interesting landmarks and a lot of eateries nearby. It was surprisingly quiet despite being right off the street. The hostess greeted us personally and explained the set-up very well. The facility itself was charming.
Although they had a lot of snacks around, we wished that breakfast would have been available. The pebbly floor in the shower was probably health trendy at some point but did not support me with chronic heel pain.

Wonderful conversion of a colonial era home to a first class hotel. Excellent location in Portsmouth, adjacent to Strawberry Banke, close to Market Square. Parking directions were spot on. Will stay there again and recommend it highly.
Not an issue for me, however, did the description mention that this property would be difficult/impossible for persons with impaired mobility?

Breakfast was not included, but there was a well stocked coffee/tea bar and snacks available to guests. The property itself was so cute, and in a very scenic, central location.
The room was a little small - hard to fully open our big suitcase. But we were easily able to work around this and enjoyed the coziness of the room and property.

The room and bathroom were comfortable and spotless. The Matouk linens a plus, plus! The coffee was superb. Close distance to good restaurants. Very easy check-in/out.
I wish the snacks were more “breakfast-like.” Minor problem for sure.

Perfect location within easy walking distance to restaurants and shops. Parking available on site. Very good communication with guests through the booking.com portal via Email. The place itself was very clean and neatly decorated. The room was a little small - it was difficult to open two large suitcases but absolutely manageable.
There was nothing to complain! Everything was in order. We though did not have any contact with staff as we arrived late and were on the road again rather early.
