We had booked this hotel for one night coming from Charleston and would continue the next morning to Athens. Little did we know at that time, that a certain hurricane named Helene would hit SC, GA and NC quite hard. We arrived in the rain and were happy to find out, that we would be able to use the parking garages on the university campus - so the car was safely stored. We were even happier, that this hotel contains a small café/pub - what a great feature given the weather! The room was nice, and had a nice decoration, clean and spacious. We woke up in the morning without electricity, which was of course not the hotel's fault - the whole block or city was out, but it came back at 7 and so we got a breakfast and were able to walk around in the morning. Quite a lot of trees downed, but that was nothing compared to what we later saw when driving west :(.

The way the hotel handled the payments - obviously something like ApplePay (where was that invented by the way?), is not too common here. We had paid the room with ApplePay and put the dinner on the room later. This was the booked during the night as one transaction. At breakfast we asked, if we should pay it directly and everyone said no, of course, that will work if you put it on the room, we will book it later. Well, it turns out it does not, as the concept of ApplePay, GooglePlay and everything similar is hiding the credit card behind a virtual number, which can not be used by just typing it somewhere - it must be authorized for every single transaction at a terminal. We had a lot of discussions by mail afterwards because of that.

Lovely hotel. I’m going to add Graduate hotels to as many locales as I can in my future travels. I especially give kudos to the young gal who was the server at breakfast….

I had booked well in advance a regular king room. I unfortunately was assigned a handicap assessable room …not informed at checking if I was fine with that. I have had to accept such a too type on occasion previously and dealt with it without complaint. I was shocked however that I was paying what I did for this room that had NO closet, NO ironing board, and NO clock. Fortunately I had two beds and used the other as my “closet” after ironing my clothes on said bed! I also had to summon housekeeping to at least tidy my room for the second night’s stay. I at least had my bed made…no fresh towels or cleaning per day. I understand staffing issues present in our society these days but for the rates your establishment charges……

The hotel's decor and furnishing are wonderful ..and a fabulous coffee table book is available for purchase detailing the interiors of all Graduate Hotels. The menu offered in the Trophy Room cafe is varied but there are items on menu not correctly described, such as Breakfast Sandwich on Brioche Bun.. was served on toasted sliced bread, not Bun. Otherwise, the food on their Trophy Room menu was tasty. Complimentary beverage coupons appreciated.

I charged all meals to my credit card. There was an instance where meal was charged to my room causing confusion on check-out. Staff needs to be better instructed on this procedure of listening to guest's preference of paying. No microwave in the room was an inconvenience.

I loved the southern charm! It was beautiful and with quaint rooms that were loaded with interesting old rare books that you’d find in a one of a kind little unique bookstore. Also, we just loved the staff. Ciara’s was fantastic and helped us get checked in with such a great personality. I can’t remember our two bartenders but they were super personable and I really fancied our conversation. Thank you all! Lastly, we were able to bike ride after dinner to burn some of the calories and feel the breeze before bedtime. I have nothing but found memories!

The property is outstanding.

Attractive building and decorated really nicely. Good sized room

Staff only interested in guests staying for more than one night. Charged for car parking when I clearly told the reception staff that I had no car. Wasn't advised that a security deposit would be taken (again, this was because the reception staff were too busy extolling the virtues of Columbia University to other guests because it was orientation week).

Location, decor

They didn’t have our reservation and upgraded us to a suite-last room left. Room was great. Problem was it was at the top of the stairs off the bar / restaurant area so was super loud. There is a door to close off and block the noise, but we couldn’t close it because there are two other rooms there. Easy solution could be to activate those three rooms keys to be able to open the door or to just leave it unlocked?

Very clean, quiet and comfortable. Nice ambiance, and location.

There was no hand soap in the bathroom. Also, you only get two free coffees your entire stay per room. So if you have more than two people staying, they have to pay for coffee, and if you are staying longer than one night, you have to pay for your coffee after the first night. There were bottles of water in the room and on the cap only they say $5.00. If people aren't careful, they can easily open the bottles without seeing the $5 label. Pretty cheap for a nice hotel.

The place smelled great, the front desk receptionist was friendly and helpful.

I wished the Trophy Room had a slightly better menu, and a more professional bartended. The backwards baseball cap and t-shirt inspired us to go elsewhere for happy hour. He was fine but too young and inexperienced to inspire us to stay.

Such fun and festive rooms and decor; the beds were wonderfully comfortable, the gathering rooms cozy and plentiful, and the checkin in fast and efficient.

Not having a coffee pot in the room....only instant coffee and hot water... was inconvenient, and the bathroom was rather awkward because of its small size and door encumbrance.

Downtown location was perfect and we loved being g close to USC.

The A/C in our room wasn’t working properly. When we opened the door to our room, it felt like it was 10 degrees warmer in the room than in the hallway. Not a deal breaker but should be looked into.
