The location of the lodge is amazing! Tucked in a canyon with access to hikes. we really enjoyed sitting on the rocking chairs out front and drinking cocktails. wish we could of stayed longer.

On check out day we headed back to our room at 10:45am to gather our luggage for the 11am checkout. When we tried to access our room the keycards didn’t work-they deactivated it before checkout. The cleaning staff were in the hall and when we asked for help the staff member made an exaggerated movement to check her watch to see what time it was, in fact she checked her watch twice before letting us in. We felt extremely rushed.

Beautiful location; very nice rooms; friendly, helpful staff.

Tents were being set up for Sturgis rally, disrupting view from front patio; picnic tables were moved to serve rally goers rather than guests on back lawn; lobby furniture was moved to side room for tables to be set up (decreasing quality of lobby ambiance); bartenders not always available to make requested drinks (margaritas); one hot tub was 108 degrees (too hot!), so other was crowded;

This place is a hidden gem. We loved it. The staff are super polite. The roads in and out are full of scenery. The Latchstring Restaurant across the road serves delectable cuisine. We had an amazing time here and will be going back again. On the first night of our trip we stayed in Deadwood at a different hotel and i absolutely regret not staying at Spearfish Canyon Lodge for our entire stay. Trust me you won’t regret it.

There was nothing to not like about the place.

The hotel is located right in the heart of the canyon. The views all around are amazing and if you like to hike there are at least 3, maybe 4 trailheads right on or near the property. They also rent ATV's and there are hundreds of miles of awesome trails to explore. The hotel is absolutely beautiful! The beds are super comfortable and everything is very clean. There are 2 hot tubs off the 2nd floor deck that have spectacular views. The Latchstring restaurant is right across the street for dining convenience and there is a small bar in the hotel with an award winning bartender named Emily. She is super personable and can fix up any drink. I've stayed here twice and plan to be back. I love, love, love this place!

There is not much bad to say about this place but if I have to say something then my only complaint is that coffee in the lobby is not available until 7am. I am an early riser and appreciate my coffee as soon as I get up. I think 6am would be a little better.

It was a beautiful location, right in the middle of the canyon. Very clean rooms.

Prices were way too high for a drink or dinner. Even the gift shop was was over priced. A small bag of M and M’s was $2.50. Ridiculous! The restaurant was poorly staffed and we were told to come back in 30 minutes even when most of the tables were empty. I counted 22 people spread out in 4!different tables. Outside there was a large table of about 15 and that was the reason we were told to come back in 30 minutes. The staff was very nice but seemed they couldn’t handle such a small number of people.

Large, comfortable room and huge lobby/lounge area for reading and relaxing. Loved the nearby access to beautiful hiking trails.

For being out in the middle of nowhere, it was often noisy with loud motorcycles on the road as well as noisy UTV vehicles for rent on the lodge grounds. They may be fun to drive, but are an assault on your senses in a place surrounded by natural beauty. The walls are thin- the room next door to ours cranked up the TV at 6:20 am. But it's the only hotel except a couple near the bottom of Spearfish Canyon, oh well!

The atmosphere of the room was wonderful, especially the fireplace. It was very cozy and welcoming. The lodge is beautiful with a grand fireplace and chairs and coaches to lounge on. There were games available for families to grab and play, a bar with beer and wine choices, and nice little gift shop, and other nice accommodations. The scenery of Spearfish Canyon is breathtaking and the lodge is close to so many activities. There are many recreational extras you can rent or access such as snowmobiling, snowshoeing, skiing, biking, four-wheeling, etc. The staff at the rental shed were very helpful and friendly. The Latchstring restaurant which is close by had excellent food - a bit pricey however.

The view from our room was the parking lot and you could hear cars, snowmobiles, even people walking on ice and talking through the windows. They could use an upgrade in their windows. The pillows on bed were pretty flat and worn out. I didn't expect an additional daily "resort fee" and service charge added to room cost.

The lodge and rooms were great, with that, the rooms might be getting a bit dated. I enjoyed the fireplace out in the lodge and the staff kept it going even on request. I ended up hurting my back and went to check out a day early. I was told I could not get a refund for leaving early because I booked through Booking.com. I’m frustrated, but I was glad to get home. By leaving early, we also avoided a large winter storm.

I should have realized, by going through a third party online, I would not be able to cancel or change my reservation. Live and learn?

The serenity of the setting and access to several hiking paths. It was in a beautiful canyon that was close to many attractions. We knew it would be full of motorcycles coming for the Sturgis Rally. We are not bikers but enjoyed seeing the collection of bikes and their camaraderie. The restaurant located across the street served a very good breakfast and had the option of being seated on an outdoor patio.

The cell service and the Wi-Fi connection was horrible.

the location was absolutely stunning! The Lodge is located about 25 minutes south of the town of Spearfish on one of the most beautiful scenic roads I have ever travelled. It is a gorgeous log cabin style lodge that is stunning to walk into. The rooms are comfortably appointed, water pressure for showers was good, beds were comfortable, and the room had a coffee maker, microwave, and a mini fridge. The lobby area had a small bar and gift shop in addition to the check in desk. It is located directly across the street from a restaurant that served excellent food for both breakfast and dinners! I highly recommend the Spearfish Canyon Lodge for your trip to South Dakota!

Nothing! Well, maybe the lack of cell service, but that was actually refreshing to be off the grid.
