I recently stayed at YHA Byron Bay and had an absolutely amazing experience—it’s easily one of the best YHA hostels I’ve visited in Australia. The entire property feels new and modern, a big contrast to older YHAs. One standout is the kitchen facilities, which are top-notch. Everything you need is there, and it’s all clean and well-maintained. They also have washing and dryer machines on-site that are actually new and work really well—much better than the older machines you often find in other hostels. If you’re a digital nomad, you’ll love the dedicated co-working room with fast internet and plenty of space to set up a laptop. Every table has a plug for charging, which can be hard to find in some hostels. It’s comfortable, quiet, and ideal for getting work done. When you need a break, there are tons of cozy spots around the hostel to relax and unwind. During my stay, I joined the lighthouse tour organized by the YHA staff. They were super friendly and helpful, and it was a fun way to meet fellow travelers and explore the local area. The hostel also hosts plenty of events, so there’s always something social to look forward to. I stayed at the hostel for two nights and had a wonderful experience. The staff were kind, the location was ideal—close to shops, restaurants, and the beach—and the room was clean and peaceful at night. Each bed had its own power outlet, light, and locker, and I stayed in a 4-person shared room with a private bathroom. The hostel offers convenient services like storing bags after check-out and providing a free pass to shower before leaving town, making it easy to enjoy the beach even after checking out.

It would be great if they could clean the shower in the shared bathroom, as it might help improve the water flow during showers.

The staff were extremely friendly and the facilities were always clean and tidy. The pool is great and the kitchen is very big. I loved the seating area too. I had a room with no air-conditioning and it didn't bother me at all. There are screens on the windows to stop bugs coming in so having both open created nice air flow. The common room is great and there is even a bbq for free use.

There was only 2 plugs next to the beds so I couldn't always charge my phone or other device. More plugs needed. The kitchen closing during the day was also sometimes frustrating especially as I personally kept my drinks in the fridge to keep it cold.

Brilliant location, close to beach, shops and supermarkets. We stayed in a double room with en-suite which was comfortable, clean and really good value for money. Hostel kitchen was large and regularly cleaned, also well equipped. We were also able to rent surf boards from the hostel for a very reasonable price price. This hostel was perfect for a few days in Byron and we would definitely recommend!

Not the most social however we were a couple so this didn’t bother us too much, and everyone we spoke to was lovely, also hostel seems to run daily activities like yoga classes and trivia nights.

Well-run hostel in a great location. Everything you need in easy walking distance. I stayed in a 4 bed female dorm with ensuite bathroom. Modern part of the hostel. Curtains on bed, power outlets and light. Really enjoyed the air-conditioning in the room and having our own bath with shower and toilet separated. Quiet nights. Common spaces were also great. Liked the open air outdoor area with roof, large kitchen, swimming pool, and internet room for late hours. wifi was pretty good everywhere, however it's not pw protected. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Common spaces were cleaned regularly.

Would be great to have more outdoor drying racks or even racks within room to hang swimsuits, towels, laundry. Our bath hasn't been cleaned in a couple of days.

A huge kitchen to use, many places to chill out, the private room is not much, but has all you need. The staff is great, the location is perfect, close to the busses and nice cafes, but not in the heart of the party places.

Windows cannot open, airco was not very powerful in our room, and I didn’t like that they let children play in the swimming pool from 8am. They were noisy and I can image all other guests woke up from it because the pool is in the middle of the hostel.

Great location, friendly staff and plenty of facilities, including a huge well equipped kitchen, loads of communal seating areas (inside and out), a laundry service and an outdoor pool. Also they offered different activities each day, including surfing lessons, sunset walk to the lighthouse and yoga. Great place for young travellers and families alike!

The bedding seemed quite worn out and had a few marks, and the light in our particular dorm wasn’t great so it was a bit hard to see without a torch at night but other than that, a great stay.

YHA is a perfect spot for a younger person/couple looking for a safe & convenient place to stay. The pool was great, as is the kitchen/dining area which was large, spacious and had nice seating options overlooking the pool. Staff were friendly and helpful. The hostel is secure - you have to have a key card to get into the building, and our private room was very comfortable. We used the car park which was easy and fairly good value considering the area.

The only things that would have enhanced our stay would be more seating around the pool area & a bar or something that would encourage more socialising. Our room was compact but we had no issues. The window was quite small but we didn’t expect incredible views at the price we paid.

The location is great. The hostel itself if very nice and chill, a lot of plants inside and the fact that the kitchen and dining areas are on a covered terrasse outside is amazing. Really nice to be able to eat outside! There was also a lot of space on the kitchen and in the dining area. And the staff is so so nice! They are very helpful.

The rooms are nice but there should be hangers outside of the rooms to leave our towels and swimsuits to dry with fresh air, since we cannot put them on the rails and ramps outside. When 9 people sleep on a room, the air isn’t very fresh so the towels don’t dry, + they stink. Also, the bathrooms were not very clean and there was mold and holes on the showers ceilings. But those are just details and the place was very nice!

Awesome facilities and location. Privacy curtains on beds were good. Pretty clean.

They don’t assign beds in shared rooms - this resulted in me being left with a bed that had already been used (the staff had changed the sheets on the wrong bed). Lucky reception was still open so I could rush down to get new bedding but if I had arrived after 7pm I don’t know what I would have done.
