Wonderful view from the Premium Harbour View room we were upgraded to due to the winter closure period. Location in Strahan was great and check in/out was very easy and quick.

Rooms were at the furthest end of the wing from the lift and with two elderly family members both with mobility issues did cause some concern. Wasn't aware that the restaurant on site was closed for winter (not mentioned on website or anywhere else - only at check in) however other options close by were available.

Views from the balcony are sensational. Lovely to have somewhere to sit and breathe in the view of Macquarie Harbour, morning and at end of day, and view the Strahan harbour comings and goings. Good secure parking. Fresh well thought out recently renovated room.

I feel the ”village” aspect needs more explanation upfront on the booking.com entry. We were initially confused about the choice of rooms and what we were booking. It took a while and reading lots of reviews and visiting the website to try and decipher the types of accommodation on offer. It’s not hard - there is a modern complex up the hill with the views and recent renovation (where we eventually stayed). Behind are what looks very old motel style accommodation. On the waterfront are some old townhouse style buildings which hold the older style unrenovated rooms. But a paragraph of explanation and including a map in the photos (like they provide on checkin) would have saved a lot of our time puzzling it out.

We spent two nights in the village. There primarily to do the Wilderness Train journey and the World Heritage Cruise up the Gordon River as I am sure most people are. You arrive at reception and are then directed to whichever property you are staying in. Ours was above the shops in the main street, looking out across the bay. It was an older style room with a small balcony. A reasonable size with a comfortable bed, plenty of hot water and the WiFi was good. We were warmly greeted on check in and given directions on where to park and how to get to our room. We are in our 70’s so my next comments are specifically for us. A younger clientele would have no problems. Parking for these units, and others close by, is at the base of a ramp with the rooms being a short walk up. The ramp is on an incline so if you have heavy luggage or have mobility issues you need to be aware of this. We don’t have mobility issues but we did have a couple of heavy things to carry up. I don’t give this information as a criticism but simply for people to be aware of it. The accommodation is within walking distance to the shops and restaurants and driving distance to a supermarket although I walked it in about 15 minutes. It is ideally suited for the Gordon River Cruises with their departure point just across the road and is about a 5 minute drive to the train station. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again. Thank you.

Walk up to room.

My initial room had a great view and was on the esplanade front, it had everything I needed for my stay but was a little dated. Due to some work going on to the balcony next door which was very loud the hotel moved me to a room up the hill. This was much more modern and had a beautiful view over the whole harbour. The lounge adjacent to the rooms up the hill was lovely, staff were very accommodating and friendly.

It would have been nice to be informed about the work taking place next door to my room from the outset rather then having to raise concerns about it. Minor though as I was out for the majority of my time and missed the most of the noise/smell.

A fabulous hotel in a beautiful location overlooking the bay in Strahan. Didn’t really know what to expect as the hotel is quite spread out (different rooms in different locations around the immediate area), but it was ideal. Stayed in a room (well a terraced room within a row of terraces) with a view over the water. Just gorgeous. Room was very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for a short stay. Staff are friendly and welcoming and the location is perfect, especially if you’re taking a cruise.

Unusual bedside table set up (left hand side) Could be a bit challenging for some getting into that side of the bed. Would be better if wine glasses were of similar size. Not a deal breaker, just things we noted.

Our room had views over looking the Gordon River it was lovely and had everything required to make our stay comfortable. Strahan village has 3 places to eat, 2 of which are situated in the town (which is at the bottom of the hill), we had a nice meal at the Hamers Bar & Bistro the first night and decided we would book a table at the View 42 Restaurant for our last night (which is located in the hotel) with views overlooking the bay but unfortunately that was not to be as there was a sign telling us the bar & restaurant was not going to be open on the Saturday night, disappointing!!

The restaurant was not available for a Saturday night meal but I am sure they had their reasons.

The location was incredible looking out over the Bay. The bathroom was excellent. The verandah with chairs was great with access to outside grass areas.

The bed was very soft. There was a bad smell in the hallway outside our room that was there for 2 of our 3 days. In the low season not many restaurants or cafes are open so NOT a lot of food options. It would have helped if there were a microwave in the room so we could prepare some meals there. Very lacking food options as I have coeliac disease and need safe gluten free food options. Making myself meals is very important and I thought there was kitchen facilities when I booked.

The room was comfortable, and had a fabulous view of the Strahan Harbour and waterfront. It was great to have chairs to sit in while watching tv, instead of having to sit on the bed. Also good to have a desk/ writing area. The huge complimentary cookies/ biscuits were delicious, and a lovely welcoming touch. We loved the surprise of having a spa bath/ jacuzzi in the roomy bathroom.

We were there for a two night stay, and were a little surprised that our room was not serviced. Not a big deal, though. A room safe might be a handy addition.

Breakfast was simple but OK. As it was cold porridge would have been good. The location is beautiful and fantastic. When we left I phoned my son and told him all about it, no TV or mobile and careful use of water and electricity. He was impressed and asked if that’s how the rest of us should live. My answer was ‘yes, pretty much’. I was thankful the heater had been on for a while so the room wasn’t to cold.

Maybe some card or other games to play and fill in the evening. We thought afterwards they should be part of our travel kit.

We got upgraded to a nice little cottage that was located at the main road with a nice view of the water. We really liked sitting on the porch. We did the Gordon River Boat tour with the World Heritage Cruise which was great

Half of Strahan including several restaurants seems to be owned by one company that also runs a boat tour. I think it is the same company that also runs the Cradle Mountain Lodge. There we had the same experience: The food was substandard.
