Pleasant place for solo traveler to stay. Quaint hotel with great history. Great location.

*Problems with hot water not working well. Past reviews have mentioned same problem. *No comfortable chairs. *Room I stayed in is starting to look “tired” and in need of refreshing - e.g. lace curtains torn, main curtains fraying at hem. It would be a shame to allow the hotel to become rundown and lose the reputation it . *Emergency exit info not on back of door as is usual in hotels (had been placed in an info folder left on table). *No instructions for spa bath. *Carpet on main staircase very worn.

It is a beautiful hotel. Incredibly historic. The feeling is one of old world charm. Lovely

The thing that irked me slightly is that they had a green policy in which they do not clean the room unless you ask the night before. I had asked the night before but somehow it was forgotten. I needed to ask for toilet paper at reception which on itself was not bad. The feeling I had was the lack of cleaning was more because of lack of wanting to pay staff rather than the environment. It is a beautiful hotel and the staff were lovely and the food in the cafe beautiful but this green policy did seem to stick out

Glorious heritage property in the heart of Ballarat. Decor is traditional with large antique and reproduction dark wood furniture, lace curtains and satin drapes. Marble look bathroom with pedestal basin and ornate mirror. Very sweet vintage lift. Lovely dining room. Half the fun is the beautiful spaces and finding your room. Late 11am check out, complimentary WI FI and water was appreciated.

I had a classic King room, while it was fun for two business nights the room didn’t have much natural light. Window view of the other wall of building. I thought there would be room service but apparently not - so not having a microwave or even a plate or knife would inconvenience me over a longer stay. A tea towel would have been helpful. Fortunately I always travel with a camp cutlery kit. Next time I’d upgrade the room for a bit more space and light.

Craigs Royal Hotel was absolutely perfect from check-in to checkout! The staff were incredibly friendly but also very efficient. Our rooms were stunning. I booked a Royal Suite and my Brother and his lovely wife had a Deluxe King, hence the rooms were a little away from each other but not inconveniently so. They were extremely happy with their beautiful room, and my Suite was nothing short of sumptuous! From the exquisite antique furniture (and besides being absolutely stunning, my four poster bed was SO comfortable!) to the wonderful, relaxing deep spa bath in my ensuite - every luxury we needed was provided. For such an olde world hotel, everything was just magnificent. (The lift brought back a lovely memory from our childhood - It's only the second old lift of its kind that I have ever seen!) The restaurant was more modern but very tastefully decorated and the food was fantastic! We all enjoyed our dinner so much that we went back for brekky - and it was equally up to the mark! 😊 P.S. the secure off-street parking (at a very minimal charge) was invaluable for us too.

There is literally NOTHING that we could fault. This was definitely our very favourite accommodation during our Victorian holiday! ⭐

The whole package was 10 out of 10. From Jackie at the check in who made our two night stay so special, to the staff in the bars and dining room The room we stayed is was better than we could have ever imagined and in fact the hole Hotel was nothing short of perfect. I will never stay any other complex in Ballarat ever again. We cannot believe how friendly and polite that all the staff were to us and ever body else as well. I have recommended Craigs Hotel to a number of my friends already and they are going to ring Jackie when they travel to Ballarat to make the booking. I will be returning in February or March with some of my family for a few nights stay. The place is perfect ans so are the staff. We have never enjoyed a stay like yours so mush on any of our travels. The old period style is done to perfection and really takes you back in time. Everything is so tastefully done. Thank you very much for looking after us so well. Kind regards Sharronne and Peter.

We loved everything. Best place we have ever stayed in. Staff, Rooms, Food. Drinks and the Hotel Decor. PERFECT, PERFECT, PERFECT..

I was upgraded to the royal suite for my stay which was so lovely and really appreciated. The room was a great size with a very comfortable bed and pillows. Huge spa bath in the gorgeous bathroom. I even had an upstairs tower room with views over Ballarat city. Great location near the shops and department stores. Great cafe and takeaway options and lovely meals served in the hotel. Easy off street parking for only $10 a day was also great. Wonderful original manual lift was fun and saved doing the stairs with luggage. Staff were all so friendly and gave great service.

Water pressure in the shower was quite low but understandable for the age of the gorgeous building.

This is lovely and gracious period hotel. Our room was comfortable with period decoration adding to the enjoyment of a step back in time - excellent bathroom facilities. The public spaces added to the feeling of grace of a past age.

The restaurant, specifically the service led by a brusque barmaid who bluntly refused to adjust the setting on tables for four so we did not have to sit along the wall - the restaurant was 80% empty. It would have made no difference to her for the waitress to take away two sets of cutlery. The limited menu was quality pub grub, a bit pricey in recognition of the elegant surrounds - pity about the staff.

Jackie is AWESOME. The first room I had was very small and in a corner. I mentioned it was rather small. She offered another room type. She graciously showed me the room which I instantly upgraded too! It made my stay at Craig's Royal Hotel far more relaxing and enjoyable. The spacious antiquities of the room size with another room for view city and stair case was extra delightful. The nice Jacuzzi tub was also a relaxing benefit! THANK YOU Jackie for making my stay really far more desirably relaxing along with enjoyable! You really care about your guest!

The first small room.

I stayed in two rooms, the older one was bigger and grander but had limited places to power laptops, the newer one was smaller but still sizeable.

The new basin in the bigger room was a splatter-prone zone next to the only power point my laptop plug could fit! I did not like the colour combo (just didn't gel together) and strangely for a history-type person like me I thought the styling was a little forced but it is spacious and it is interesting and downstairs lobby area is nice. Easy location to Ballarat Central and shops. Even with the old lift (mind your fingers!) there can be some half-floor stairs to navigate. I had to walk a way to even get out of the building.

The retention of the hotel's history is amazing and a beautiful sight! The old lift still being maintained as is, was awesome! The rooms, the layout and even the room signs note "Ballaarat" from the original city name. The bathrooms are beautiful, big and well maintained with plenty of towels provided.

I thought it was weird that my drink at the restaurant didn't get served until I got my meal. It's either that or they just forgot. Steak was quite average as well. The bed join could be felt all night, which was not something you'd expect from a hotel of this type. Surprising that a 4-star hotel doesn't provide body lotion, though.
