The hotel is gorgeous and is located on a secluded beach and is surrounded by many hiking and mountain biking trails and there are many water sports. There also is yoga, a spa and many workout classes. There is even an outdoor weight area - so many opportunities to stay active. Onsite there are many excellent bars and restaurants to chose from; we loved the variety of choices. The lobby cocktail bar prides itself on amazing cocktail services; there are so many creative cocktails (the smoked mescal cosmo is delicious!). Fresh ingredients and attention to detail made the cocktails delightful.

When planning our trip I didn't appreciate how driving in Costa Rica can be a challenge if you are unfamiliar with their roads. This is not meant as a criticism just a reality I had not anticipated. So getting from one beach to another was a challenge and it took us two days to figure out how to get to Playa Conchal! Again, this was due to my lack of research but it made our location a challenge. Also note, we came during rainy season and were not aware that the Monkey Trail floods (road number 911, seriously!) and we would be crossing two creeks. We did it safely (and it was exciting!) but we were so happy a local who was crossing the other way stopped to tell us it was ok to cross! Now I understand why so many vehicles have snorkels!

the location is great. beach is very nice. hotel is nicely designed. room was beautiful. bathroom also amazing. reception staff was incredibly helpful

rest of staff (restaurant and bar) need to step up their game. food at the restaurant is not just ok. no bottled water in rooms. mini fridge empty, this level of hotel should have more in-room snacks drinks water etc. no room service.

We didn't have the breakfast there. I wasn't sure my stay included the breakfast which I didn't think it didn't. So we didn't have any.

Well the overall the place is great. The one problem and I'm sure with other travelers, that you're very limited to other options of food other than what's on the facility. And if you had to travel to get to other places, Uber is limited. Also and I think this is most important, the beach area needs an overall change. The branches and down trees is just not a great look for that resort. If the beach area had a curb appeal to it, this would be the ideal resort.

A really beautiful hotel in the village of las Catalinas. We celebrated Christmas and New Year in this place and both the hotel and the village itself were really something special. We enjoyed the beautiful hotel, the terrace of our room and the beautiful decoration and spacious room. It was perfect for a family trip. The staff was very friendly and professional and was helping out whenever we needed something. Dinner on the terrace of the hotel was wonderful.

The breakfast was ok but not what you would expect from such a hotel. Especially as the dinner arrangement was always wonderful. For breakfast the buffet was very American style and the atmosphere was not really for staying longer than necessary.

I really loved the location of the hotel and the quaint town it's in! It's a very authentic style interior architecture. All the spaces, bedrooms, lobby seating area/ bar, and pool top all are very comfortable and enjoyable to be in. All the trails they have around there are fabulous. And the concierge was great to work with to set up activities, you want everything to go through them, and book in advance! We did the Rio Perdido Canyon experience/ zipline, it was great!! The hotels restaurant is amazing!! But you need to book in advance! And the little cafe was nice to have so I could grab a great coffee drink or smoothie.

I did not like the fact that they did not have a gym at all. They picture a gym, but it actually doesn't belong to them so you have to pay a steep fee for it, and it's outdoors. And there are no cardio machines, or stretching areas, it's just wood-made weight plates and bars/ benches, etc. And not useful when it rains. I also don't recall any room service available.

What started as a disaster ended with a grateful heart. Prior to check in we lost all our luggage to theft while parked at nearby Sugar Beach ( Playa Azucar ). Shame on me for not leaving my bags at the front desk rather than locked in my trunk. While waiting for the police a kind samaritan gave my wife a short ride to the hotel. The manager - Roberto quickly arrived to help me and waited the hour for the police to arrive. Meanwhile a very kind front desk person - Karla consoled my wife by helping her find toiletries, upgrading our room, and making a dinner reservation in the very full restaurant for us. She even arranged for an employee to stop in a nearby town to purchase undergarment for us both.

The Las Catalinas resort was great. Security and thoughtful personnel were in abundance. However - be on alert when even slightly off site. Police are scarce and tourist are targets for petty crime. Sugar Beach should have a sign warning anyone to be on high alert.

Killer location. Right on the beach and next to restaurants and a craft brewery. The rooms were large and clean. The rooftop infinity pool has a shaded area and views to die for

Nothing I didn’t like but a few suggestions for the property. If you have a terrace, why not make it large enough for a couple chairs? Also, as it currently is designed there is no separation from other rooms to prevent people from walking right over to your terrace area and seeing into your room. Finally, the rate is pretty high for the rooms.

It's beautiful, well located hotel. Nice and kind staff. The hotel restaurant is delicious and the view from the pool is great.

I had a medication that needed to be in low temperatures. I think a mini fridge is a Standart in hotels but not in Santarena. Also I woke up to swim early in the morning and the pool water was dirty.

Beautiful property and on the a quiet beach. The staff were absolutely fantastic and helpful. The area Catalinas is a tad remote since they are slowly building a small village which am sure will be beautiful as far as we can see. The food at the hotel was not great and the prices are insane. Catalinas is very expensive for being in Costa Rica n out of our whole trip the food was the worst on this part of Costa Rica. I would suggest going to eat at Potrero beach down the road better food n reasonable prices.

This was the nicest hotel we've ever stayed at. The hotel is beautifully decorated with comfy chairs and couches in the lobby/bar area. The rooms are spacious, comfortable beds and nice cool temperature. The staff are friendly and hospitable. All in all it was a wonderful vacation.

Costa Rica is a beautiful country but the roads are rough. So it's a challenging getting around. Also, there were occasional power outages. And be prepared for heat, 90s and up.
