Les Chambres de Mathilde is located in a 19th Century family house. The proprietor has gone out of his way to recreate and display the history and culture that sits alongside its character. Polished wood floors and excellent curtains and blinds meant a quality feel to the place. Our room (named after the beautiful matriarch) was comfortable, warm, with a view over the courtyard garden, and graced with a wonderful portrait of Mathilde herself. Breakfast was marvellous, and served in what had been the family's living room. We were delighted.

There is nothing whatsoever to dislike. However, the stairs might challenge less mobile guests.

The property was interesting and elegant. Built around 1850. The host was friendly and accommodating. He speaks Polish, Russian, English and French. The breakfast was all home-made: yoghurt, honey, jams, croissants, bread, orange juice, tea/coffee and fresh milk. The room was large and elegant. There was even a small dressing room. The bathroom wasn't luxurious but perfectly appointed. The shower was a walk-in cabinet. There were books galore, some of which containing fantastic photos taken by our host, who was a retired professional photographer. The location was great: 5 minutes walk from the centre, where there was a myriad of restaurants.

Not a problem for us but there was no lift. The stairs were polished wood in an elegant large spiral. Our room was up 30 stairs. Parking was in a public undercover car park about 6 minutes walk away. The cost was 12€ a day. We would have found it difficult to spot the property without a reliable satnav as it's in a terrace in a side street. (See screenshot of Google maps photo)

Fabulous decor, like staying in a historic house but with thoughtful touches like a tea making corner with table and chairs in the room. Friendly and knowledgeable host (French speaking). In a quiet residential area with a delicatessan nearby, 20 minute walk past a park to the historic city centre

Parking outside the hotel is metered and costly. But 1km further out there are streets where you can park for free.

We stayed in La chambre de Mathilde which was a beautiful room overlooking the garden. It was full of character and history. The breakfast room was similar and the breakfast itself wonderfully laid out and delicious. My husband had a medical emergency on arriving in Angers and the hosts Mr and Mrs Huss could not have been more helpful and kind. Fortunately after investigations in hospital all was well. We will definitely visit again.

The room was very comfortable and spacious, even with a small side room for luggage and wardrobe. I also appreciated the kettle to make my own tea. The jam for breakfast deserves a special mention - simply delicious.

On arrival there was a small, handwritten note on the door that the doorbell was not working and you had to call. I had a problem reading all the digits and called the wrong number first. But that's just a minor complaint.

We had a lovely spacious room which was furnished with antiques. There was storage for our bikes in the locked entrance courtyard. Breakfast was good and included home made preserves and honey from the owner's own beehives!

Our room (Josephine) was on the second floor up two flights of quite steep stairs. The email from Booking.com with the keypad entry code converted the numbers into ## when translated into English; fortunately the owner was in and able to answer the doorbell to let us in when we arrived.

The location was perfect. It was on a quiet street, but only five minutes from the main square and restaurants. We were able to park on the street with no charge. The smiling welcome we received from our Host was wonderful after a long drive. Our room was delightful, overlooking the garden and decorated with family portraits and antique furniture. The bed was large and very comfortable, and the bathroom, spotless. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and fresh from the bakery and what appeared to be, home made jams and our Host’s honey. I would highly recommend this beautiful house and warm Host.

Nothing. It was delightful and perfect as it was. The door from the road gives no indication of what is inside. The only slight warning I would give is that the staircase is circular, but the bannisters are strong!

Lovely historic townhouse in perfect location for exploring Angers. Beds were comfortable. Stairs were a bit of a challenge. Breakfast was delicious. Owner is charming. We were able to park outside on the street - free overnight.

Stairs were a little difficult and handrail was wobbly. Would not recommend unless you are sure on your feet.

Massive room overlooking a very quiet courtyard. Beds very comfortable and we had great showers. Our bikes were stored safely inside the entrance. Tea and coffee in room was nice (had to search for milk). Even a bottle of water which was appreciated. Breakfast was laid out beautifully with fresh tea and coffee. Really a nice touch.

We stayed on 3rd floor and wifi would only work when we stood near door. Not an issue for a one night stay really.

Very friendly welcome by host - very clean room with comfortable bed - breakfast was good quality - great location to walk into the main restaurant/shopping/museums/castle. We enjoyed our 2 night stay!

Take care as the stairs to the top floor are steep for those with mobility issues
