I have some dietary requirements and I was well catered for. To my surprise when I sat down for my first meal, the server already knew my restrictions from an email sent months before. I had tips and advice on walks including an idea of how I could hike the Samaria Gorge if it was closed on my intended day. I got lucky on my intended day. On the day of my departure I was waiting for the bus and was given a coffee while I waited even though I'd checked out.

No complaints - I was looked after and all the staff were very attentive.

Everything was great! We stayed one night to go to Samaria gorge. We could check-in early in the morning so we could leave our luggage. The staff and owners were very helpful and polite. The room was very clean and comfortable and the hotel is very well maintained from the '90s. Location was great, in a quiet road in the mountain and just 5 minutes from the gorge. And even better, the hotel has a great restaurant as well to have dinner after the gorge. Breakfast was great, there was a set table waiting for us in the morning. Highly recommended :)

A genuine family owned and cared for hotel serving the local area for hikers. Definitely the best of the four hotels serving Omalos, with a lovely covered dining area with water feature. They dropped us off at the Samaria Gorge and talked us through how to get back. When we stumbled back in many hours later (it’s definitely a hike!) they served a gorgeous meal of home cooked (we saw it) local fresh food and wine.

A wonderfully warm, family run, mountain hotel situated right on the beautiful Omalos Plateau. Five minutes from the Gingilos and Samaria Gorge trailheads. The rooms were warm and comfortable, the owners were friendly and accommodating and the breakfast was large and tasty. The wildflowers on the Plateau were amazing in April, and we had decent views of Lammergeier (Bearded Vulture) as a bonus. Later in the year you are perfectly situated to start the Samaria Gorge hike. The hotel even provides free shuttles to the trailhead if you don't have a car.

Top place to stay the night before and after the Samaria Gorge experience. Well organized the transfer to the Samaria Gorge entrance. Great for me to stay 2 nights on the mountain, fresh air and a short different holiday embedded in the main seaside holiday. Very nice views around, I'll return another year for spend there more day for trekking around (I'll have to agree with my wife, she prefers beaches and summer dresses!). Great food, it's so nice to sit there (with 22-23 celsius degrees in august) sipping a beer at sunset after the long walk in view of an excellent dinner. Great morning breakfast, full of homemade products. Pet friendly, not so common in Greece

The rooms and bathroom are a bit small (like a mountain hotel), but I certainly didn't go there to stay in the room and/or laze in the bathtub

This is the perfect overnight stay before tackling the Samaria Gorge. The hotel is right next to the bus stop after taking the bus from Chania, nestling in a peaceful location surrounded by the spectacular peaks of the Lefka Ori. There is a waymarked hikng route directly from Omalos to the Kallergi mountain refuge, with views to the Omalos plateau below. The bedroom was comfortable with a good en-suite shower room. In the morning, the breakfast, at €6 per person, was great value for money then the hotel minibus took us to the entrance to the Samaria national park at Xyloskala, ready to start the hike down the gorge at 8am. The staff were always friendly and helpful.

The Neos Omalos Hotel is a perfect example of what this type of hotel, a mountain hotel catering for hikers, should be. The staff are extremely welcoming and accommodating. The food is well priced, tasty and wholesome. The rooms are clean and functional. Finally the price is just right where you feel you're getting great value. I would go back there in heartbeat. I've stayed in hotels all around the world and this is one of my all time favourites. Is it the fanciest of hotels? No. Does it have a bunch of facilities you won't use? No. But the staff will make you feel welcome, the atmosphere is calm and relaxed and you will leave wanting to return. 10/10

We had a wonderful experience during our stay at Neos Omalos Hotel. From the moment we have arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They were very friendly, attentive, and always ready to assist with a smile. We highly recommend Neos Omalos Hotel for anyone looking for exceptional service, amazing Greek food, comfort, and a warm, welcoming environment. We will definitely be returning!

I suspect if you're coming to Omalos, you're coming to climb the mountains or to visit the Samaria gorge. If that's the case this hotel is very well set up for your needs. The rooms are simple and comfortable. There appears to be heating for the winter months. The restaurant looks good although we didn't eat there. The included breakfast was good for a days walking. There is a free minibus transfer to the Samaria gorge gate at a time which will get you just ahead of the crowds. Or you could avoid the crowds altogether by climbing Gingilos. Actually it's worth mentioning that the gorge is popular for the very good reason that it's very spectacular and well worth doing. The staff were very helpful. Definitely the place to stay!
