What impressed us particularly was the truly delightful staff who went out of their way to make our stay special for us. And the breakfast was truly phenomenal - the range of choices was superb and there was a lot of flexibility if one wanted a slight difference from anything listed. The hotel's location, raised above the centre, was not too far to walk from shops and restaurants with several route alternatives. For visiting the island, the bus stop at Grange Top was slightly closer than heading to the Town Terminus, albeit still a few minutes' walk. On arrival, our initial impression of the building was a little negative - peeling paint and rather less architecturally appealing than our mental images, and the in-room decor (repeating postage stamp images) was striking rather than beautiful, but the room was very comfortable with almost all facilities we wanted (no fridge, but we could request fresh milk and a bucket of ice daily from the bar). We didn't get to use the swimming pool as weather was terrible so not sure how that would have been but it looked a decent size for the number of rooms.

Breakfast choice was amazing and tasty and staff very friendly but we were asked for our choice of drinks on sitting down and our choice of toast so by the time we wanted the toast with marmalade it was cold . We asked for the toast to come after the eggs on the second and third day . Also they want you to order your hot breakfast but dont give you time to eat the fruit or cereal and it arrived before I had finished and as the table was small they asked if they could take my bowl away to fit the eggs plate on but I hadn’t finished ! Felt like they wanted to serve you quickly but I think they were too keen and just wanted to please .
The room could have been bigger as was very small for the price , I had upgraded to a seaview room so I would have thought it would have been bigger than the classic double room . Being rushed through our breakfasts .

Outstanding service with attention to detail, is the hallmark of the Duke of Richmond. This is one of the best hotel customer service we have experienced. We were a group of 10 in 6 rooms. All the rooms are clean and tidy with some having excellent sea views of the entire harbour. The breakfast is one of the best we have ever experienced with excellent variety. The swimming pool is sizeable and the perfect temperature. i accidentally left my phone in the bar before going out for a meal one evening and a member of staff found me further down the road and returned it to me. Nothing was too much trouble. Would stay here again when we return to Guernsey.
Hard to fault, but small thing would be an extraction fan in the toilet would be useful as well as a warm shower in the swimming pool changing room. The bus network in Guernsey is good but it is a hilly walk to the nearest bus stop.

Breakfast, lone female, arrived a breakfast and felt really alone. Staff treated me with the words,’ You are alone,’ sat me at a nice Fetable in the middle of the room, wedged in between two couples. I offered my choice of breakfast straight away, as feeling uncomfortable, staff said I would have to wait. I just felt, everything was good, but with a little bit of thought could have made me feel more comfortable about being alone. Instead I felt even more aware that I was ALONE>
Felt very alone, staff failed to make me feel less alone. Good morning Madame , given me a choice of tables, I was put in the middle of the room between two couples, tables very close together. Taken more order quickly. I offered my ordered as soon as I sat down as felt very odd in a room full of couples, told I needed to wait. A little bit of thought about what it feels like to travel alone would have been wonderful. Other that that I really liked the hotel and will recommend to others.

The breakfast was good. Continental choices and freshness excellent. Cooked breakfast options ideal. The hotel is clean and in good condition. The staff are superb. The only downside was Guernsey is so hilly! The taxi from the ferry was £6.50. The return taxi to the Ferry terminal was £10. The bus service is good. Buy your day pass from the Bus office by the main terminal because you can get a 2 day for £11. One journey should be £1.50 but when we got on the bus the driver would only do the £10 day pass, in hindsight the 2 day one would have been better value.
Nothing.

Tucked away up a hill surrounded by green space and beautiful buildings, The Duke of Richmond hotel was 10 minutes away from the seafront. Spotlessly clean and polished throughout with informative and friendly staff at the ready to deal with requests - nothing was too much trouble. My room was comfortable with plenty of storage space for luggage - quite the boudoir style - softly padded and upholstered wall treatments with burgundy cricket stripe matched to perfection with the Roman blinds and drapes. I was particularly impressed with the huge collection of original and printed artwork - both in the room and communal areas, restaurant etc. Everything was delightfully elegant, quirky, tongue-in-cheek or all three. A relaxing and fun hotel. The cooked breakfasts were delicious and served with friendly humour. We took a trip around the countryside with #REALguernsey and a ferry hop over to Herm. Will definitely return.
We weren’t expecting parking to be an issue - would be useful if the hotel info could mention alternative parking, explanation of the zones/times. We were lucky it was a bank holiday so we didn’t need to get up and run to the car before 8.00 am to change the disc arrival time (disc supplied on arrival when requested). Additionally, some zones are for 2 hours and some for 10. There were only 4 or 5 parking spaces allocated for the hotel so it was a matter of searching nearby roads for somewhere - not ideal after a ferry crossing.

The staff were very good - smart and efficient. Breakfast was very good with plenty of options and high quality. Our room was very noisy due to the location of the kitchen fans. After the first night we asked if we could be moved and the staff were very helpful in moving us to a much quieter room.
This a quality hotel and I accepted the fact that the price reflected this. However, I was surprised at check out when an 'optional' payment of £5/night was added to the bill for staff gratuities (I have never come across this in the hundreds of hotels I have stayed at worldwide over my lifetime). I paid this but felt uncomfortable doing so as I felt the 12.5% service charge added to the restaurant bill was enough. As for the housekeeping staff, I would expect any tips to be at the discretion of each guest, given to the individual concerned.

Very welcoming and efficient staff. Good position in town. Room was comfortable and well equipped. Excellent restaurant with a very good range of interesting dishes for both dinner and breakfast.
Coming down late (but within published times) for breakfast on Sunday meant a bit restricted on choice and service wasn’t up to the earlier high standard. We were forgotten for the hot food service (but this didn’t worry us too much, as we had already decided not to order, as portions were very generous the previous morning).

Location good. Hotel decor and comfort lovely.
Very disappointed with breakfast and food options. Menus make clear to ask staff for alternative suggestions in relation to food allergy information. I have a wheat intolerance and have lactose intolerance. I asked at breakfast whether there was any lactose free milk available, only to be told NO, and also asked if anything on the cooked menu could be adapted, also to be told no. What makes this more disappointing is that not 100 yards away in the corner shop lactose free milk is readily available. This meant that unfortunately all I was able to have for breakfast was a couple of pieces of fruit with a peppermint tea. Definitely could and should be improved in this day and age.

Breakfast was good with a good selection of foods for a continental breakfast and a good menu in you wanted a cooked breakfast
The outside terrace and swimming pool area are "a bit past its sell by date" with uneven slabs and garden furniture that was damaged. The glass table tops were dirty and hadn't been cleaned before we sat down on each occasions we used the terrace. The seats around the pool area were covered in leaf debris and looked liked that they hadn't been cleaned that day
