This must be one of best locations in Matera! Just 4 rooms run by a most charming family. They will do all to make your stay comfortable. Breakfast is sereved right outside your room whilst you enjoy the sight of Matera and the Cathedral below your room! Magical. Inside your "cave" which was really a very large well appointed room you will sleep like a bear - the most quiet room we ever had. Best of all, the bus from Saragat Parking stops just down a few steps from your room. At the same bus stop you can also take a bus which will bring you to the other side of the gorge to look over at Matera for the grand view. (and avoid the 200 meter down and 200 meter up hike to cross the gorge over the Tibetan bridge). We can highly recommend this place. Book early they only have four rooms.

Whilst not that serious, we found the bed linen and pillows not up to standard. Pillows are too hard. Bed linen is too flimsy. There should be some shelves in the bathroom above the toilet seat. And, sadly not tissue paper is provided.

I think we hit the jackpot with this Bed and Breakfast. I'm pretty sure we had the best location in town! The owners are just so hospitable and helpful. The rooms were amazing- woke up to beautiful church bells and had the perfect people-watching view from our window. Breakfast was exceptional- our table was beautifully set for our group of four and the food was absolutely delicious! The breakfast room is decorated with beautiful hand-made items available for purchase, in case you're looking for some authentic souvenirs to bring home!

Perfectly located with astounding views of both the city and the sassi. Built mainly in the rock giving it bags of character and keeping it cool. Breakfast on the terrace was excellent, even fresh figs picked from the tree as we watched. Tiziana & Domenico were great hosts, nothing was too much trouble. Our room had a beautiful view of the city and the cathedral tower, the bed was comfortable, good Wi-Fi, usb ports, good shower and a little terrace.

It was all perfect.

Another excellent experience in this beautiful town. The view from the property is stunning at any time of the day. The host was waiting for us on the main street, so we even did not have to find the correct path to find our room. Impressive large kitchen with well working induction hob, so you can easily cook meat and anything else (quite rear thing in Apulia). Very tasty breakfast. In fact, everything was excellent and even exceeded our expectations.

Only one thing what might be improved - bed. It was large, warm but somehow not really comfortable if two persons sleep close to each other.

Domenico & Tiziana were very hospitable and the perfect hosts. It's the best view from a room that I have had to date on my travels. The room was very clean, quiet and comfortable. The location is just perfect for exploring Matera. Amazing views from the balcony etc. Breakfast was beautifully presented each morning. Look out for Le Corte Dei Pastori in the opening scenes of No Time To Die. There is no parking here like most of the Matera Sassi area but the nearby car park in Via Saragat was just perfect and is charged at € 0.50ph. Take the red shuttle bus directly outside (Linea Sassi) to Piazza San Pietro Caveoso (last stop). It costs €1.50 each way and runs approx every 30 minutes. These times may change throughout the year. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Le Corte Dei Pastori and hope to return one day with friends. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Tiziana and Domenico are fantastic hosts (extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful). This on it's own makes a real difference. The property is located in the hart of the Sassi (historical part of the city) and the room has a fantastic view on the old city as well as the other side of the canyon. The B&B on itself is special as it is carved out in the rocks underneath a cave based historical church. Tiziana and Domenico have a beautiful herbs garden. Last but not least, a fantastic breakfast is being served by Tiziana with a magnificent view. Pistachio cream filled croissants (cornetto) are amazing. We simply enjoyed the whole experience and love the place. What an amazing view and rare experience (sleeping in caves that have been carved out ages ago).

We got more than we expected.

Wow. This place is a hidden gem. perfect location within the caves of Sassi with breathtaking views of Matera and the Duomo. The staff was so kind and friendly and helped us make reservations and gave us lots of advice. Also one of the best breakfast experiences we’ve had in Southern Italy! Very professional and personal service with top quality pastries, cheeses, breads, juice, and a big fantastic cappuccino! Highly recommended!

Staying at La Corte Dei Pastori was absolutely (1) of the best B&Bs that we've been too! Located inside a rock below an historic old Church and directly below, just a few steps, the main courtyard to many shops and very good restaurants. In the Sassi, La Corte Dei Pastori, for us, the location was great. Very easy to get to top of Matera and all of the main sites. Owners, husband & wife, so friendly, and hard working couple making sure every guest has an unforgettable stay! They were extremely helpful with all our questions, even parking with service pickup to and from La Corte Dei Pastori, which was a breeze. Parking service drops you off directly at B&B. Very few steps up to our room, which was key for us! Also, 5 min walk from La Corte to Aqua Spa, Awesome messages, and the warm thermal pool was fabulous! The room was just perfect! Private entrance, big, clean, nice bathroom and the view from our window was breathtaking! Breakfast on the terrace, WOW, the view, behind, in front and overlooking the Sassi was so peaceful and serene! Hosts, were very accommodating they would try to provide any requests. There is only a handful of rooms available at La Corte Dei Pastori and we had the pleasure of seeing two other suites. I highly recommend booking early and staying here. We truly didn't want to leave and without a doubt, would definitely stay at La Corte Dei Pastori next time! Tip: Wear walking "rubber sole" shoes. Perfect view, perfect place to stay if you come to visit Matera, you will live inside a natural cave, fantastic experience!

only thing I didn't like is that the address doesn't exist on Google Maps, so be careful, road name is "vico" not "via", a tip for people also staying here: directly type the property name in Google Maps and it will lead you to the right location, don't type the address.

We loved staying here. The room is so unique and beautiful. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. After walking the sassi for hours, it was great to come back and enjoy wine on our terrace with such a beautiful view in front of us. Dinner was an easy walk away. Our hosts provided a wonderful breakfast, which we enjoyed on the beautiful terrace. This is an excellent location, both in getting to it from the parking lot, but also for finding our way back to it after walking in the sassi. We weren't sure about getting to the location, but it was as easy as the hosts described. Our GPS took us directly to the big parking lot on Via Saragat. Right in front of the parking lot is the stop for the red Linnea Sassi bus, which you take to the last stop at Piazza San Pietro Caveoso, about a 12 minute ride. From the piazza, walk just a few steps up Via Bruno Buozzi, look to your left, and you'll see a small white sign directing you to La Corte Dei Pastori.

Everything was perfect.
