It was really easy to get to the Guesthouse and it was possible to send your luggage there, which was especially nice to not travel with a big suitcase. The onsen in the guesthouse was very nice and the room had plenty of space for three people! We enjoyed our stay very much and it was nice to have booked a room with our own toilet. They also had a very nice space to cook some food and relax.

There is always only one person at the reception and because of that it might be a bit harder to reach someone via phone. By text it was easier to wait for an answer. We did not mind, but people should be aware that the showers are part of the onsen and the onsen is only open from 16:00 pm to 9:00 am, so inbetween you could not shower.

Despite sharing the dorm with 11 other people, the dorm was spacious. The beds were large and we were each provided with our own locker to store things. A light, ledge and PowerPoint were provided at the head of the bed for each person.

If you are someone who can get shy about being naked in front of other people (of the same sex), consider using the shower/onsen space late at night (the space is open from 5pm - 9am next morning) so that you have to share it with other people as there is no space for privacy.

I'm on a fortnight, 6 cities, trip in Japan with my son and I've booked several kinds of accomodation to give my son a good idea of the range available. Sunline Beppu's tatami mat rooms wih futons were a delightful insight into how the Japanese sleep. The well equipped common kitchen/lounge was great - large commercial fridge, induction stove, microwave, oven toaster, ice maker, etc. The bath to soak in was a bonus! Location was great - a short walk to Takegawara Onsen, one of very few with a sand bath. YouMe, a large shopping mall was also close by.

I've slept in many ryokans before and they've always provided well padded, thick futons. Sunline's futons were a little on the thin side. I usually sleep on my side, but I had to sleep on my back with these. That said, their excellence facilities made up for it!

Absolutely clean facilities and quiet rooms, even in the shared dormitory. The hotel's own onsen is an absolute gem and should be very much appreciated. The lobby and common rooms are very comfortable and may be used for work, reading or having some lovel drinks. Furthermore the staff speaks very good English and is happy to help out with any concern. The hostel's staff even went the extra-mile for me and sent a piece of luggage after me with Yamato Express and I was able to retrieve it the very next day. Thank your very much for your invredible service!

Nothing - absolutely loved it!

Very simple accommodation but great value for money. The location was great, close to the rail station and bus stops so we could travel around easily. Staff were very friendly and accommodating during checkin and on check out when they stored our luggage. The onsen was very clean and soaps and hairdryers were all available. We slept well on the futons on the floor, but they are firm!

Our TV didn’t work which wasn’t really an issue but would have been nice to use and the walls are thin. We could hear if anyone was speaking in the hallway from our room but luckily all was quiet in the evening.

Pretty good! The price is really cheap for the experience. I stayed at the dormitory, the beds are bigger than they look, and people were overall quiet and polite. The facilities are very good too! Modern washrooms, very nice onsen, and the cafe has some great food although the timings are a bit off. The location is super fantastic. I’ll definitely consider coming again for a short stay. If you’re planning a budget trip, this is a really good option.

They don’t make up the bed at the dormitory if you don’t stay for three consecutive nights, which was a bit frustrating. The upstairs washroom isn’t cleaned as much as the downstairs one, I think, and since the washrooms are quite small it’s a bit difficult to get ready in the morning.

The onsen directly in the hotel is a huge plus. I liked to go there to relax at the end of the day. There are 2 main areas. One that stands for a coffee shop and one reserved for the customers. I liked both: the chai latte was good and the other area had a large collection of manga to read from. The place is perfectly located, near buses and the train station.

The futon are not the most confortable I have slept in. The rooms are not soundproofed and not every customer respect the policy of "no sound after 11".

A modern hostel space with its own onsen bath! Only a short walk from Beppu Station and close to many cute restaurants and cafés. The dormitory bunks were quite spacious and the mattresses were super comfortable as well.

The bathroom was a bit cramped, with only 1 stall for the whole women's dorm. Also, the only shower space available was the open shower in the onsen, which is fine for travellers already accustomed to onsen culture, but may be something to keep in mind for those not as comfortable with public bathing.

Excellent location, helpful and friendly staff and comfortable beds. The in-house onsen was surprisingly nice and I'd say as good or better than most of the other onsen in the downtown area. This makes the stay a great value.

The place is a bit dirty by Japanese standards. The bed itself and sheets were very clean and nothing at the hostel was grossly dirty, but there are some stains here and there, dust in a few places and the door curtains especially were quite stained.

I had super wonderful 4-day stay at Beppu Sunline Guestline. It really exceeded my expectation. The location is perfect, near bus stations, Beppu station, etc. A lot of convenient stores and supermarkets, near beach, etc. Its location is really at the centre and accessible to many places. I booked a bunk bed in the female dormitory and I would not exaggerate that I had really comfortable and private area. People were aware of keeping silent, so I did not have any problem with noise or such things like that. There is a working space at the lobby, which is super cool with chill music, creating a really a wonderful traditional vibe ... The onsen is wonderful too. I read many comments about the minus point of the guesthouse is there is no private bathroom before my travelling. But I would say that I did not see it as a big problem. I could enjoy onsen alone with no one (probably my schedule did not coincide with anyone, so I could enjoy the onsen freely and comfortably). It's true that there is no private bathroom but in the spacious onsen, there are several showers, so you can take one of them (even in case there are more people in). The important thing is people are very polite and everyone has their own business, so even I stayed in a dorm with shared bathroom, restroom, etc, I stilt felt very comfortable, Everything is clean, bright, and I rated 10 stars for the guesthouse. The staff is also super friendly and supportive. I definitely loved the guesthouse and fount it really worth my limited budget,
