This temple was such a cute location! I knew that there was no dinner, and that the monks had trouble with English, so I didn't expect any of that. The room is spatious and comfortable. We liked sleeping on the futon on the tatami mats. From this location we could easily reach all interesting locations in Koyasan. This location had their own website with a suggested timeline and also alternative locations for dinner. This was very useful and a smart solution to the monks not being fluent English speaking hosts. And finally of course: the morning prayer was very impressive and a unique experience. We were here in November and be aware: it's very cold in the morning!
Nothing!

Beautiful grounds, very clean and comfortable, shared bathroom (divided male/female, which is made up of an open room containing several showers and a hot bath with an adjacent changing room) are extremely clean and well-heated. You can only shower at night between 4-10pm. Good location - it’s a bit further away from town than some of the others but a safe and well-lit walk (if you do the Okunoin night tour, you will have to hurry back after catching the 2040h bus - I walked quite fast and arrived back at 2053). Room is ryokan style and includes a heater and A/C. The monks were gracious hosts and the prayers in the morning were very special to watch, they provide you with a business card that has a QR code on arrival do you can read more about it before attending which was lovely. Felt very safe here as a solo female traveller

I liked the silence and simplicity in the hotel. Futons were comfortable, everything new and clean.
I dont like the check in is possible for such a short time, it is really close to impossible to get there on time. Staff seems not to make any exceptions with this, as I saw some people who were late and could not check in. it is really cruel, several things may happen to people traveling and there is zero human treatment here.

I like the simple, no frills needed, temple accommodations. The monk that met me was friendly, easy to communicate with, and I found the other guests to be respectful and friendly for the stay (shared toilets and bathing rooms). I enjoyed the morning prayers, and I feel good about staying here. I will come again. Arigato.
I did not take any meals here, but I don't eat a lot, so I didn't need to eat until dinner time and I found a small place for dinner around the corner -- but be warned, most restaurants close early-ish, around 5 or 6. I was lucky to find a place to have a drink and some food around 7:00. If you are the kind of person who needs to eat, make sure to secure food options if you stay here.

Beautiful temple. Amazing experience to participate in a morning prayer held by monks. Beautiful garden with a pond filled with gold fish. So peaceful. Spacious rooms with AC, wonderful hot baths that are open until 10 pm. Perfect location - close to everything including temples, hiking, restaurants, and shops. Good advise is to rent an audio guide from a tourist center that tells you about all temples and cost only 500 yen. We enjoyed it a lot.

we loved our room with garden view, traditional Japanese, cosy and peaceful place. The onsen was excellent especially because it was quite cold during the day, so having a hot bath in the evening really helped. It´s very cold in the rest of the building, so bring extra layers if you're coming in autumn/winter. We especially liked the morning prayer ritual

Cosy temple stay in a central part of Koyasan. Spacious rooms with tatami flooring and comfortable futon beds. There were several restaurants nearby, so we didn't need to rely on konbini food for dinner - would recommend Ponpoko which was 300m away. Watching the monks' morning ceremony at 6:30am was very special.
A bit expensive for what was offered, fewer comforts than a typical ryokan. No hand soap at communal sinks near the toilets (only hand sanitiser), water temp at these sinks was icy and not very comfortable on a cold night. Limited check in times (3pm to 5pm). More explanation from the monks about the morning ceremony would have made the experience even more memorable.

The sunrise chanting service by the monks was wonderful; beautiful temple; wonderful location with many attractions within walking distance. Loved the traditional Japanese pajamas and robe they furnished to guests.
Arrival/check in. We called to let them know we could not get there by the anticipated 5 pm checkin since our drive through the mountains was taking longer than anticipated. While we were assured it was not a problem to arrive at 6:30 pm, the monk on site apparently did not know this and was rather rude as if we were bothering him. Perhaps he was supposed to be in silence or something, but he barely spoke and hardly answered our questions.

Beautiful gardens Quiet and peaceful place Very clean Thanks to the monks letting us assist at their morning prayer which was very enrichimg Loved the onsen, too
Providing of fresh water and tea/coffee would have been great I entirely understand that the monk‘s role is not to entertain the tourists and it was alteady great to be able to participate at the morning prayer. However I would have loved to learn a bit more about their life, the monastary, its history etc Maybe just provide some information in form of a brochure, some handouts etc

The most affordable temple stay option I could find, and it did not disappoint! My room had a beautiful view of the gardens and was very charming and comfortable. Morning prayers were lovely. The bath was nice and hot. They told me I could drop off my bag early, then actually let me check in when I came by around 10:30am, wow! I really appreciated that. No food was served, but this was communicated clearly to me from the beginning (and contributed to the low cost, I'm sure) so no complaints there. Location is great to access activities at nearby temples, as well as Daishi Ryokai.
The bath seemed like it could use some cleaning. Everything else was very clean though.
