Charming stay, an almost hidden entrance to an alleyway of stairs that leads up to the actual house off of one of the main historical town streets. Set your alarm at 6am and you will have the most photographable streets, almost empty, at your doorsteps :). Lowkey atmosphere with easy check-in, few rules or limitations yet maximum comfort. E.g., you can use the bathtub whenever, yet they somehow have it ready for you just when you want it. Excellent breakfast. Spatious, very clean room. The owner is always available for any questions or requests (& randomly gave me desserts which are always welcome ^^ ~ many thanks!). He helped me arrange to deliver my growing luggage from all the shopping, to my train station for pickup at departure. Will certainly stay again when visiting Kyoto.

A cozy little gem tucked away in Kiyomizu, with an authentic, Kyoto-like appearance and excellent hospitality catered to your needs. Although you have to go up the hill to get here, the location is close to Kiyomizu temple and great to get around. They have a nice wooden bath, probably the only modern thing in the ryokan, which you can soak in literally whenever (midnight, early morning, right before CO time). The staffs are very friendly and their Japanese style breakfast is to die for. Only downside is that since this is a traditional ryokan, you will need to carry your luggage up the stone steps to get to the entrance from the gate and the walls are very thin (hence no kids under a certain age allowed). Overall it was an extraordinary Kyoto experience for us and we will definitely be coming back!
that we had to carry up our luggage from the gate to the entrance, and that we could hear people talking from the next room. Though we understand that it is part of staying in a traditional ryokan!

Location was perfect for our family! The property is near Ninnenzaka and Sinnenzaka and walking distance from the Kiyumizo-dera Temple. There is also a vendo machine just outside the property. The location was very quiet and relaxing. We were greeted by a Tea Ceremony when we arrived and our host was very nice and helpful! Other tourist spots were walkable in distance but we recommend taking Uber to nearby places like Pontocho and Gion to save time and energy. We also took Uber to Fushima Inari. The saved time and energy allowed us to have a very relaxing trip as a family and allowed us more time to enjoy each place. We will definitely stay in this ryokan again the next time we return to Kyoto! We are now in Osaka and we already miss this place!

A nice clean traditional Japanese Ryokan. The facilities were fantastic, the location right next to Kiyomizu-Dera. The best thing about the stay was the host - he was very friendly and worked very hard to make the stay very comfortable. The big Japanese breakfast in the morning was delicious.
I loved it and there isn't anything negative to say. For some guests, the traditional futon beds might be different to what they are used to, so to be aware, but it is part of the Ryokan experience.

Our stay was fantastic! The staff were warm, attentive, and always ready to help. The traditional Japanese garden was a beautiful, peaceful retreat. Breakfast was exceptional, with a delicious variety to start the day right. A special touch was the complimentary late-night snack our host had waiting for us after a night out — a thoughtful gesture that made us feel truly welcome. Highly recommended!

Wonderful atmosphere -- loved the privacy and the traditional decor. Everything from the walkway outside to the garden surrounding the buildings was beautiful. Also, one of the staff stitched my pants for no charge during my stay!
I would've preferred it if the bathroom and shower were attached to the living quarters, as opposed to being across the hall, but they are minor quibbles.

Very beautifully decorated ryokan. The owner is super friendly and speaks good English. Breakfast was really good, homemade food! You have the entire floor to yourself when you book a room/apartment. Everything was very clean. The location is great!
We stayed for one night. If you have a sensitive back, like me, traditional Japanese futon beds are not the best choice. I had back pain the next day. But this was my own mistake. I don't know what I expected.

if you book this stay you probably want to experience the traditional japanese house. this is exactly it and its very good location only about 5min walking to the famous tatami starbucks. i didnt have breakfast but i think they offer breakfast too which is fantastic. tge area is ninnenzaka so you can walk around and experience the calm side of the bustling area after dark. if you go around spring you can go for the night view and illumination in kiyomizu-dera, another 5min walk! if youre unsure of the room its the whole upper floor of the building the host/staff is still downstairs but its a very private experience. there is no elevator to the upper floor.

Perfection from start to finish. Absolutely charming people and house. Astounding kindness and hospitality. The light comes through the windows of the house that is just so... 'wabi sabi'!!! Loved it!
I can't think of anything. I usually have something negative to say, but I really can't think of anything that could have been better. Maybe... it's a good idea to take a taxi, just up the hill if you have luggage.

Everything was incredible. Entirely above our expectations. We took a taxi from Kyoto train station and it took around 15mins at a cost of 2000¥. We went in January and there was heavy snow and icy roads. The ryokan is in a great location. Nearby temples and Gion area are walkable. Beautiful area with traditional shop houses. The hosts were so friendly. We had the top floor ryokan which was huge and comfortable. The bathroom and shower facilities were good. Heating was warm enough. The breakfast was exceptional. Very happy we chose to stay in a ryokan and not a hotel.
No complaints. We'll definitely stay again.
