This humble ryokan was an incredible stay. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The rooms were large especially in comparison to most Japanese hotels. Lots of storage. Although the rooms felt a little outdated it added to the charm and slowness we were looking for in the mountains. The location was great. About a 15 min walk to food and about a 20 minute walk to the monkey park entrance. There is also easy access to busses if you're not into walking. The onsen was 10/10. Would absolutely stay here again.

The rooms felt a bit outdated, and there was a tea stain on the tatami. i personally didn't mind this, but i could see how someone else might care about that.

Comfortable lodgings with outdoor onsen and included full Japanese dinner for a very reasonable price. Although the staff only speak a little English, when I asked in (my limited) Japanese they went above and beyond at short notice to provide my partner with a delicious meal which catered to his dietary requirements. For that they earn a fantastic review as this was a rather challenging request when preparing Japanese cuisine (eg. no soy sauce). The accommodation was Japanese style and the facilities in the room were quite dated, but perfectly comfortable for a short stay. Conveniently located for seeing the Snow Monkeys.

Nothing.

We had a really rough day before arriving. It was late and we were tired. But a short dip in the bath made it well worth it. The staff were so patient and helpful. It was everything we wanted and at a great price. If you want a traditional hotspring experience, this is it.

The only complait I have is it is a little difficult to recognize at night, but the bus stop is right across the street so can't miss it.

This was my favorite stay during my 2 weeks in Japan. It’s a lovely traditional inn with Japanese style rooms. The tatami mats had recently been changed and my room smelled wonderful! The futon was so comfortable and I liked having the extra space in my room. The onsen was amazing! I loved the choices for sitting in and out of the water. The covered area was so nice when it was raining. There is a 150Y onsen tax per night in this area so you must have cash. I did the half-board and was treated to the best dinner and breakfast on my trip. The owners are lovely and very helpful. I felt welcome and cared for during my stay. I would have loved a second night, but by the time I thought about it, it was fully booked.

I liked everything at this property

The location is perfect if you are going to view the monkeys! The owner is so kind that he brings us to the monkeys parks. And also info of the bus to nagano station. The onsen is good!

The location is bit to far from the station, but close to the monkeys park. I and my girlfriend walked 30 min to the hotel, with uphill to the hotel, but there is one person who is sooo kind, who help us to bring us to the hotel with the car!!🥰

We absolutely loved our stay, it was a traditional Japanese Bed and Breakfast. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, we had a beautiful view of the trees with the fallen snow. The hosts are a beautiful Japanese couple who had all the time in the world for us, they were so accommodating and helpful and made us feel like we were at home. The Onsen was beautiful, you do have to use with no clothes, but I went late at night and had it all to myself. I have leg tattoos and my partner arms and it was no trouble at all to use. It is shared showers but again I went later in the night so had it all to myself. I couldn’t recommend this place enough it was definitely one of the highlights of our whole Japan trip.

This was such an amazing experience - not a glossy hotel, but an authentic Japanese minshuku (bed and breakfast). The food was outstanding. We absolutely loved the onsen, open to the snowy air and stars. Our room was cosy - the futons comfortable. There are shared toilets close by, but to shower you use the onsen facilities. If you want privacy go early morning or late at night, or just embrace it - we did. Beautiful yukata are provided to wear to the baths and around the inn. Our hosts could not do enough for us - picking us up from Yudanaka Station, dropping us to the Snow Monkey Park (close by) and dropping us back to the station for departure. It snowed when we were there - the whole thing was magical. An amazing value for money!

Everything was perfect! The owners of the hotel are amazing, they are lovely and the help you with everything. We decide to eat there the second night and the food was very good. We regretted to have missed the first dinner there. The onsen are super. Hot water in an open space create a lovely atmosphere. The room was in a real riokan stile with two super comfortable futon, was like to sleep in a super soft cloud. In front of the hotel there is the bus stop for go where do you need. For us was a perfect place. Thank you to the owner for having us.

The owners were incredibly lovely! I absolutely fell in love with their warm hospitality, and the food was delicious – a real highlight of our stay. I highly recommend this place!

The only suggestion I’d make, which isn’t about the Minshuku itself, would be to add a reminder near the onsen for guests unfamiliar with onsen etiquette in Japan, as some may not realise they need to wash before entering. Overall, a wonderful experience with amazing hosts!

Everything about it was fabulous! The hosts were friendly and gracious, and the lack of a common language between us didn't get in the way of being able to connect and communicate. The room was perfect, with gorgeous views of the hills and fields around the minshuku. It rained while I was there, which added to the lushness of the surrounds. Access to the outdoor onsen was a highlight.
