The place is run by an old couple. Top notched services, very cozy and large space in the room. Room were cleaned every day with fresh towels. Clean and warm room. One thing to take note is that there is no private showers in the room. Only a toilet and a sink. You have to shower with strangers in the public shower beside the onsen, but that is how you get to fully experience the Japanese culture. There were two onsen, one indoor and one outdoor, and one sauna.

There were no instructions in the onsen / shower area, some foreigners didn’t know about proper onsen rules and regulations so it would be best to provide that in the public showers

We loved everything about the hotel — the charm, the food and especially the onsen. We were greeted with such warm hospitality, we were contemplating to extend our stay. Breakfast was delicious and the rooms were quaint, yet comfortable. One of ladies at the hotel were so kind to accommodate our one year old, she even gave her a small toy. We will definitely be back in Yudanaka if not for the hotel, the charm of the whole town and the beauty it holds. Tip — the hotel can be a bit far from restaurants so dinner may be a problem. The cafe downstairs does good burgers worth trying and there’s a quaint restaurant about 300m walk from the hotel which serves home cooked food. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Yudanaka and cannot wait to come again.

The staff at Omodaka were incredibly friendly & despite the language barrier did anything to help us out, it really felt like the staff were a family & did everything to look after all their guests. The outdoor onsen was an incredible experience & if you want a traditional ryokan near the Jigokudani Monkey Park this a great a place to stay. The Kaiseki multi course dinner is also a must, you get given a private tatami room with multiple dishes from soba, tempura, sashimi and a bunch of local dishes. The mountain views were also spectacular with the snow caps & river nearby.

The property did feel a little dated.

We had the best time here. We were in the Japanese style room, which was beautiful and bigger than expected. Everything was clean and the heating worked wonderfully. We had THE best night of sleep on their tatami!! What we liked the most were the host: we really felt welcomed and cared for. They came out their ways to accompany us in everything we did and we couldn't be more grateful for them. The onsen is beautiful and well cared. We had the burgers at the downstairs restaurant and they were DELICIOUS!! We definitely recommend staying here and we will definitely be back! Thank you for everything!

Service: going above and beyond! They drove us to the train station to save us from the pain of walking 15 min with two suitcases, and even called us beforehand to remind us of the time we had to leave. The hotel is run by elderly staff and they’re the exemplar of hospitality and professionalism. We only stayed a night but were very impressed. Both indoor and outdoor onsen- loved it. Room is spacious and spotless clean. View from room-can see snow-covered river. Location- conveniently located opposite the bus stay. Just a few min walk. Dinner is an extra 1500 yen. Elaborate presentation and too much to eat. Taste was ok.

Nothing!

I will remember the sights and sounds seen and heard from our huge windows for the rest of my life. Vistas of mist shrouded mountains, the glow of Yamanouchi town’s lights and the roaring of rushing water, are unforgettable. The walk to the snow monkey park was both magical and extremely doable. Our hosts were kind and very gracious and the meal we ate there was delicious! I wish all hamburgers were this good 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Our room was big and beautiful- very traditional and with screens to cover the windows, very warm.

We did find the pillows rather uncomfortable but we were given others when we asked. I totally recommend Hotel Omodaka.

The hotel is pretty good. Of course it is not too modern but that's actually fine if you want to experience staying in a small town in the countryside of Japan and sleeping in the tatami. The onsen was great, and especially the one outdoor. The one inside is a bit too hot, but you get used to the temperature after a while. My room was huge and comfortable. They give you a kimono you can wear and try, which is a nice experience. The staff in the hotel are very nice and helpful. They waited for me the evening when I was a bit late to arrive without any problem. They arrange for me the drop off to the Snow monkeys park and to the local station, free of charge. Breakfast is a traditional Japanese breakfast, and is worth trying.

Picked up from train station, drop off at monkey park, drop off at station, customer service was top notch, dinner is a must as it is out of this world favors, onsen indoors is very warm, but doable while still upstairs outdoor onsen was wonderful. Older property that has seen better days, I am also older and have seen better days. Best experience in our entire trip. Don’t worry. English only speaking foreigner can’t stop thinking about the property.

Don’t second guess, go ahead and book

The owners were very helpful. Daily rides to the station, monkey park, pick up and drop off at the station. They also assist with choosing train times when someone is planning to visit another city. The two onsens were superb especially the outdoor onsen. The whole staff will communicate in English as well if you don't know Japanese. Would definitely go there again!

Nothing regarding the hotel, owners or staff, however, the proper use of the onsen is not explained properly to foreigners so it seemed a bit messy at times.

The onsen was super hot and relaxing. The breakfast had something for everyone, from Japanese classics to more western options. The view from the hotel was exceptional overlooking the river and the room was set up nicely and plenty of space for the 5 of us. We liked that it was right across the river from a bus stop. The hotel staff took us to the snow monkeys and arranged a time when we checked in. They also took us to the local train station when it was time to leave. It was very wonderful. When we went on hikes in the mountains there was a bus stop right across the river that we could come back to. There was also a park with a splash pad right out front for the kids to play on. Attached to the hotel was an American restaurant and made burgers and had soft drinks like Dr Pepper. Very welcoming and friendly. We loved staying here.

The only downside was the patio below us was the restaurant and it was okay to smoke outside and a little came in our window and we could smell it when people smoked out there. Other than that we had no issues.
