It was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the beautiful location and the serene atmosphere. The resort is set in an idyllic beachfront setting, offering stunning views of the ocean. The staff was incredibly friendly. The rooms were spacious and impeccably clean. Waking up to the sound of the waves and the fresh sea breeze was an absolute treat. The resort offers a variety of activities, and I thoroughly enjoyed spending time at the pool and exploring the beach. The food was another highlight. The resort’s restaurant offers a wide range of delicious, high-quality dishes, catering to different tastes. Overall, my stay exceeded my expectations, this resort offers the ultimate getaway.

I liked the atmosphere and the relaxed vibes around the pool. The rooms were also very clean with a nice balcony and view. The receptionists were very friendly and accommodating, allowing me to leave my luggage on my last day while I went shopping on the high street right outside the hotel. It was a perfect location to see all the local crafts and shop and then pick up a tuk tuk to the beaches.

I think as a solo female traveller I felt a little unsafe walking out of the back of the hotel where the security guard would let sellers walk straight up to me and start to pester me. I didn't feel safe as a solo female traveller, it actually prevented me walking to the beach solo. I had to order a tuk tuk.

Great location and friendly team.

Same breakfast menu. The pool had to undergo some repairs during my stay.

The staff were fantastic. So friendly and ready to help with anything, they couldnt do enough for you. The property itself is quite pretty & is located near some shopping streets.

The beach is a “working” beach not a relaxing sunbathing one. If you want beach bars and sunbeds there are better places the stay. The food was quite basic and the same everyday, rice, potatoes, fish, meat, fruit. But what they did cook was very nice. It would have been good to have signs saying what the dishes were rather than having the chef show you each one everytime, was a bit awkward. I wouldnt bother doing all inclusive as theres nicer places to eat out and the tours usually have lunch included etc. As the hotel is brand new it lacks character or decoration. Everything is just white & feels a bit clinical. There’s also no aircon in the restaurant so gets very hot & uncomfortable during meal times. The rooms were very comfortable and pretty but the doors arent secure. I had another guest walk into my room using her key despite my door being locked and the cleaner managed to get into my room even though id locked the door and left the keys in the lock. Also the curtains are white and the external walkway lights are on all night so its quite bright in the rooms to sleep. The showers were cold but its so hot you dont mind too much and Watamu has regular power cuts. The hotel on average 5 power cuts a day. But they usually fixed them within the hour. Theres stairs everywhere so im not sure it would be a great choice for disabled people.

Nice room with aircon and good supply of water in the room also nice to have a fridge in the room. Breakfast was acceptable , didn’t really try other meals at the hotel as we were out so cannot comment on this . Good level of security with polite guards . During our stay we Attended one entertainment which was a tribal dance and very good. Staff are friendly and work hard to engage with guests which was nice to see . Music at the pool was ok but too repetitive, about 20 songs on the playlist on repeat which becomes too much. Extend the playlist to 100 plus songs and that will resolve the issue.

Pool was being treated and there was no swimming until 11 am. Price list is in euros , this is very off putting and indicates overcharging. It’s ok to have both prices to help guests calculate the exchange rate but not to just have euros. Access to swim in the sea is limited due to location of the hotel and the tide. The water in the shower was smelly sometimes smelt like sewage then smelt like a strong bleach chemical. They should pre warn guests about this especially if it’s inevitable due to the type of system in place.we booked a boat excursion via the hotel but be warned that if u want them to provide alcohol for you for this make sure you check the price in advance as we were heavily stung by paying 4 grand shillings for a cheap bottle of wine. Our mistake was we did not agree the price in advance as we assumed that it would be around 2000 shillings like all the other hotels we dined at. The weird thing is that buying wine at the hotel is cheap at £3.50 a glass so shocking how one can charge 4 grand . Sometimes We used the hotel for our transport within the local area but again check the price you are quoted against Uber as it is as much as triple the price . My Uber app was playing up so we had to use them as well as Tuktuks which are cheap. Good massage however was quoted €60 for a full body massage so declined this as those are European prices so why would I want to pay that much when I am in a foreign country. A day later Was then offered the same massage for €25 which sounded more reasonable so accepted it. There was a guest walking around wearing a cap with the nazi iron cross symbol which is obviously extremely racist and offensive but I don’t blame the staff for not challenging the guest as they may not have realised what it was .

The dinner buffet was pretty good.

We paid around 200 usd per night with full board and the hotel didn't deliver. If the price were 100$ I wouldn't say anything. We chose Lion for its premium location at central Watamu Bay and were extremely disappointed by the hotel's design. Architects of the place should lose their license - they have completely ruined prime real estate in Watamu. The hotel doesn't embrace either the ocean view, the beach access, or the sunset, instead, it is self-centered around one pool. The hotel is owned by a corporate chain focused on revenue, not guest experience. The beachfront is just a shabby-looking shack with access through the back gate, swarming with beach boys peddling excursions. Inside the hotel, there is a single pool with around 40 sunbeds for well over 200 people, so they are all the time occupied and directly at the pool giving no privacy. Rooms are spartan with no tiles in the bathroom, plywood shelves, and a weak AC unit, that barely keeps one corner of the room cooled. Wi fi was going on and off. In sum, it could have been a truly amazing hotel, instead, it is poorly designed, cheaply built, and offers sitting by the crowded pool munching on all-inclusive meals. Disappointment.
