La Villa Luz is a palapa-style building that reflects that it was originally designed by a celebrated architect as a private home. It is quite beautiful and the exquisite craftsmanship throughout reflects attention to detail and time and place. There are 7 rooms, all with private bathrooms, The rooms climb from the garden/pool level to above the street level entrance on Escenica La Ropa. The rooms have very comfortable beds and most have their own balconies. Bathrooms are roomy and provide nice shampoo and conditioner. There are AC units in each room, if needed. The small staff are lovely. Ania the manager was so welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. The housekeeper was so efficient and meticulous. They offer a breakfast from 8-12 with an extensive menu; the wonderful chef makes everything to order. The pool is smaller but perfect for cooling off and sitting around reading. Playa La Ropa is minutes away and we walked the beach and swam every morning. The location is great and we largely walked everywhere, whether into town or to La Ropa. Great exercise!

The physical structure of La Villa Luz makes WiFi coverage spotty at times. They probably need a mesh network and faster ISP. Not an issue for us but there are lots of steps/stairs as the building is built into the hillside. For someone with mobility issues, could be challenging.

The staff were so helpful and kind and brought us coffee to our room each morning. The breakfast is very good but is an additional charge. The pool is on the small side but we almost always had it to ourselves and the grounds around it were beautifully maintained.

We stayed in the junior suite, garden view, and it was hard for us to tell when booking that it would be so close to the pool area and therefore didn’t feel all that private during the day. Voices carried pretty easily from our room to the pool and vice versa. Also, the traffic from the street was sometimes an issue. Though our room was still very nice, we had wished we chose one of the rooms on an upper level, with the ocean view. It would have allowed for a bit more privacy too.

The hotel was everything and more, the location 2 minute walk to the beach, the room was an amazing size and the swimming pool was fantastic, breakfast was great, coffee brought to the room every morning, staff was attentive and helpful. We would 100% return to this hotel.

The boutique hotel offered wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and ocean and a tranquil vibe. Our room was cozy and charming, and the dining area overlooked nature. The staff were amazing, serving us breakfast in our room, when requested, and responding to unexpected needs with genuine care. Will return if staying in Zihuantanejo again!

Construction next to pool for a little bar and restaurant will be great just didn’t know that was happening during our stay. Also very narrow spiral staircase to get to pool. A little challenging. No breakfast on Saturday or Sunday at our date

Felt like you were in a luxury treehouse! the entrance lobby has a great ‘Wow’ factor! Location was great for being able to walk everywhere. Rooms are quiet and have fabulous balcony, to enjoy the gardens and pool below and all the birds. Staff were really lovely. The manager, Anja was really helpful and attentive. Breakfasts were both an adventure and an education…..learnt new words in Spanish every morning thanks to our lovely cook!

There was nothing we didn’t like… but there are certainly some ideas to improve the experience. we really missed not having a kettle and a few basic kitchen utensils in the room. It would have been nice to have the pool area lit for night swimming.

We stayed at La Villa Luz (small boutique hotel) for six nights during our visit to the Zihuatanejo. The hotel is located a couple blocks from the main area beach Playa La Ropa, a beautiful, safe swimming beach. We had a room in one of the upper levels with a balcony and view overlooking the beautiful grounds, swimming pool, and beach neighborhood. Our room, the common areas, and grounds were always very clean, well kept, and maintained. The hotel offers a breakfast option every morning cooked by a local chef, Fide, and was absolutely delicious. The entire staff, Esther, Erica, Fide, and Irving, were so welcoming and made us feel very comfortable during our stay. Muchas gracias a todos ustedes!

There wasn't anything we didn't like. The only reason we rate the "Value" category less than all other categories is because there may be options in the area that are less $, but not having stayed at any of them we have no basis for comparison. There are certainly many other options in the area where you could spend much more $.

Where do I start? The entire property is stunning... serene, beautifully decorated, super clean and cozy. The staff were all so friendly and helpful, and completely made us feel at home. Breakfast was divine - healthy and tasty, cooked to order by the most lovely chef. The view from our room was incredible and the pool and garden area are gorgeous, the perfect place to cool down after a day exploring. Just a few minutes walk from Playa la Ropa and lots of great restaurants, this was a great location for our home base in Zihuatanejo.

Honestly, not a single thing!

Perfectly manicured with every detail thoughtfully planned. Ideal location just one block away from the beach and restaurants. You can still hear the waves. The staff was amazing! So kind and welcoming, friendly, helpful. The breakfasts were the best food we had all week from anywhere.

We absolutely LOVED Villa La Luz. The staff is top notch and the breakfast was wonderful. The hotel is immaculate and very conveniently located to Playa del Ropa. There is a taxi stand just down the street from the back door. The bed and bedroom was comfortable. The grounds and pool are very clean and beautifully maintained.

There are no TVs in any of the 7 rooms which is not a major issue however, the spotty/slow Internet is frustrating. I believe WIFI boosters or repeaters in each room would help alleviate that issue. Only two rooms in the hotel have any cooking capabilities (each room has a refrigerator) so keep that in mind for longer stays. The one issue that was most concerning for us was the locking mechanism on the front door. The front door locks and unlocks with a key only. So in case of an emergency the front door would be a major blockage. The only other exit is the back stairs down to the beach which a steep, narrow spiral staircase which would be bottleneck in an emergency.
