Great location, great staff, AC worked well, ocean front, excellent food options and bar. Transportation arrangements to CUN airport were perfect.

Our room did not have a balcony, several do not, and it was too hot to open windows. A hammock in the room is not a great substitute. Wifi was sketchy. No pool. No foot wash station so sand was in the room. Limited beach due to high water level was the most challenging issue with beach walkers literally walking around our chairs. Roof top outside lounge eliminated if you have been here before to add more rooms. Tips for staff must be cash only FYI.

We stayed here in late May for 5 nights. Description: The hotel is located just a few blocks from the main tourist/commercial area and easily accessible. It sits on the water and has its own beach, with the beach bar and restaurant open during daylight hours. Our room was modestly sized but very clean, and it had a great balcony to view the beach from the shade. Food: the hotel bar and restaurant served a lot of variety and was phenomenal. We had the included breakfast almost every day, and we ordered lunch, snacks, and drinks throughout our week. Very tasty and convenient. Service: the staff, especially at the front desk, was helpful, available, and communicative. Tours: we used the hotel’s organized tours for (1) kayaking in the mangroves area; (2) night kayaking to see the bioluminescence; and (3) boat tour with snorkeling, fishing, and visiting Cabo Catoche. All were excellent and reasonably priced. It was convenient to book with the hotel without much advanced planning. Plus the tour guides were clearly knowledgeable about the island and eco-conscious.

Cons: it did not bother us that much, but note that there was limited shaded area on the beach; there were 2 umbrellas but otherwise mostly palm trees, which did not provide enough shade at high noon. Hopefully the hotel adds some more umbrellas.

The staff were super friendly and helpful. Cannot say enough about them. Breakfast was incredibly delicious and so convenient. Property is small and feels really personal. Bed was super super comfortable and balcony view was great.

Really was nothing we did not like. One thing to be aware of though, price was quoted in dollars, first half paid upfront was billed that way, second half is paid at property using their exchange rate which resulted in the second half being 40 usd more- I don’t really think that is reasonable as it changed the nightly rate a fair amount.

The outdoor amenities and setting at La Palapa are wonderful, very close to town yet still feels secluded with its private beach. We walked by the long beach strip that has most other hotels, and there was so much seaweed that guests couldn’t reach the sea (not to mention the smell). However, the water in front of La Palapa was clear and dreamy. The staff was also absolutely wonderful, helpful at all times, there was a genuine positive atmosphere. Finally, we also really enjoyed the food, more so than expected! Thanks to the team for a wonderful stay

The walls are quite thin so it does get quite noisy in the evenings unfortunately, but the hotel kindly provides earplugs which is a nice gesture. Also, although I enjoyed the ability to have a tab running throughout our stay, it was a real bummer that we couldn’t tip by card. Unfortunately we did not have enough cash and I felt bad as the staff works hard and more than deserves it. So hopefully this is a feature they can include as I’m sure we weren’t the only ones!

Everything about this hotel is perfect. Located on a private beach which only has a very small number of people passing through as they walk further up the beach. Food and drinks from the bar are perfect, the room is exceptionally clean and the staff can't do enough for you. We can't thank the guys at the bar enough, the breakfast and lunch was absolutely amazing and the cocktails even better (we're really sorry but we can't remember the lovely guys name from the beach bar but he was amazing and so so friendly) Please thank all of the staff for their hospitality, from the reception staff to the bar staff, chefs and cleaners. Everyone we spoke to was extremely friendly and they cannot do enough for you. We will definitely be back!

You can hear the live music from town until late -- but the hotel provides ear plugs. The biggest issue was getting scam emails from Booking.com (not the hotel, so not the hotel's fault) asking me for my credit card again and other info.

The room advertised was not the room we got...when we tried to change it, there were no acceptable options. Nothing wrong with the room we had other than we were expecting to be on the 2nd floor. At over $400 per night, the room did not reflect the price paid, however.

The location was perfect. The beds were so so so so comfortable. Firm but honestly so perfect. The hotel is perfectly located—close to the center of town and the best bars/beaches/nightlife but with enough distance between that it offered the perfect escape from the craziness of the center. And while, yes, you can hear the bar around the corner, it was never so loud that we had trouble sleeping. The staff is so warm and inviting. A real highlight is the breakfast! Definitely try everything because it’s all so good. I will be thinking about the fruit and cheese toast for a long time to come. The beach is nice not really a long stretch of sand, but the loungers are positioned right at the waterline, and the water is clear and clean. Another real highlight was the fact that the bioluminescence was right at the Hotel Beach.

Small, tropical hotel in the perfect central location. We had a room with a huge balcony overlooking the beach and loved it. The room is spacious, looks a little more rustic in person than online, but that doesn’t matter at all. The bed and pillows are very comfy and it’s a spacious room. The staff are all outstanding here- the girls at the desk, the groundskeepers, the guys at the bar/restaurant are all great and so hardworking. The beach is cleaned every morning, the sand around the property is raked throughout the day. The cushions are put away every night and the covers are changed, so when you go to use them they look brand new. I had read many complaints before arriving regarding the noise. There are absolutely lots of different restaurants or bars nearby that play music and yes it can be heard in the rooms. However, once I was in my bed with the fan and a/c going, the noise did not prevent me from falling asleep nor staying asleep. I’m not sure if that’s because I was in an oceanfront room, but that was my experience. I’m a light sleeper and always use an eye mask and earplugs, even at home. I did the same here and slept fine. The other complaint I had read before going was that there was only one outlet, in the bathroom. My room also had an outlet with built in usb between the beds, so this was also not an issue. We explored a lot of the island, and what we appreciated about La Palapa, is that they don’t play loud club music day and night like many of the other places ( that would have driven me nuts!). Instead at the beachside bar/restaurant they have mellow music playing. So much more relaxing! There is a water refilling station at the check in desk that we used constantly throughout our stay. They also supply shampoo, conditioner and lotion. If I were to return to Holbox , I would definitely consider this hotel again. (It would only be the price that would potentially keep me away). I feel that what I paid on my visit was worth it.
