This is a character house that has been thoughtfully and eclectically renovated to accommodate multiple guests. Warm and cosy with lots of personality! Right on the Rail Trail. Breakfast had lots of homemade preserves and loved the farm fresh eggs. The in floor heating in the bathroom was great for a cool morning. I wish the weather had been more agreeable to enjoy the outdoor setting as this looked absolutely beautiful.
I didn’t realise the bathrooms were shared with other guests - my bad for not taking notice of that. But there were two large bathrooms available, so that was a plus!

Very friendly and kind host who opened the home to us early. Had the entire home to ourselves so we did not have to share the bathroom which was very nice. Living room was comfortable and stylish. The home is immediately adjacent to the Otago Rail Trail so it was very convenient. The gardens are spectacular.
toilet was old and had difficulty draining. Shower floor was slippery for seniors.

Lovely, quaint old home with a gorgeous outdoor setting. The fireplace in the open living area made the house very cozy.
This is not a criticism on the accommodation at all but if you are a larger group as we were (8), book well ahead if you want to dine at the local pub. It is the only place to eat without needing to drive and they could not take us even though they only had 15 in for dinner the night we were there!

Location was perfect for cycling the Otago Rail Trail as it is just metres off the trail and well signposted. I got lucky and had the house to myself. Loved the decor and the feel of the house. Shower was great and bed very comfortable. The breakfast was fab as almost everything was home made.

we loved the location and the beautiful gardens, as well as resident sheep, peacocks etc. good kitchen with facilities for us to cook dinner. nice breakfast provided.
the main problem for us was that the host couldn’t accept payment through the usual booking.com method and we spent a fair bit of time trying to make payment to him when we were tired and wanted to just relax. he couldn’t take payment from an Australian bank account unless we did a foreign exchange payment which would have charged $25 transaction fee. we eventually paid back in Australia.

We loved the ambience of the place. We enjoyed conversations with the other like minded travellers. Plenty of reading material and supplies in general . Breakfast was simply superb. Fresh and plentiful.
My wife is allergic to cats, and this would be the only negative of our experience. Also, an extra sign pointing to the red gate might be beneficial to cyclists on the Rail Trail.

Such a unique accomodation in the place. It’s very convenient if you want to explore around Lauder and surroundings. Kevin was a very welcoming host and really friendly towards his guest. Beddings were comfortable and there was a hot shower and heated floors in the bedroom. It was really nice to have been provided breakfast too.

Kevin - host, was amazing! He was very caring and welcomed us in the very late evening. This place is very unique, we stayed only one night but the design was exceptional, very cosy modern farm vibes.
Our bathroom was outdoors so after a shower we had to make sure we put hoodie and jacket on.

You can do very good stargazing. It's also very peaceful, listening to the birds and bees. The owner is very friendly, too. Considering it's location, the internet was surprisingly reliable and fast.
There aren't any supermarkets or pubs in walking distance, so either inform the owner beforehand or pack some dinner.

A great location right on the rail trail, about 200 metres from the Lauder pub, via the rail trail, so you can have a few brews and walk back 😉 A unique mud house (numerous in the area) with shared facilities. Comfy beds. A good continental breakfast. The extra friendly tabby cat comes free of charge.
