This is our third stay at this hotel over an approximate 10-year period. Previously we stayed in the Heritage Room and when traveling with a friend, in the Garden Suite. All good. Although we booked in advance, (3 months) the only availability this round was a “Petit Room” located separate, but adjacent to the main Hotel. Our room was satisfactory, but not at the equivalent standard of the main house and garden suite. The distance between your knees and the wall when using the bathroom toilet epitomizes the word “petit” think 6 inches…Yes, I measured (dependent upon knee size). However, the distance is to a towel warmer so you won’t get a chill and it is extremely handy for drying handwashed undergarments and socks. Water pressure in the shower is excellent and hot water abundant. Staff are very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Off-street parking available at no extra cost. The location of the Hotel and its proximity to multiple fine wine tasting rooms can’t be beat…A 15 km total trip (Return) can take you to five or more separate venues. Breakfast is not included but available in the hotel restaurant or at several nearby coffee shop options a short walk away. The Hotel offers a most convenient laundry service (a large bagful) wash, dry and fold for a very reasonable $25. There is a town cinema five minutes away that generally shows 4 -5 films sequentially catering to multiple tastes.

Fair warning for those awaiting total knee replacement (TKR)…except for the garden suites, (Ground floor) don’t even think about booking. While the main house stairs are not as deep and more manageable, the petit suites are up a flight of deep, steep, stairs that require contortionist skills to ascend with luggage. Even well-functioning knees are put to the test. In past stays we had a bathtub, not so Chez les Petits…Not a deal breaker, but be aware. Shower can be slippery, no grab bars or shower mat provided…It’s a safety issue. Proximity to street noise may on occasion interrupt a good night’s sleep. In summary highly recommended, but best option is for the main house or garden suites.

Loved the small historical boutique feel of the property. Convenient car park, central, friendly staff and comfortable clean room. We enjoyed the warmth of the fireside library neatly tucked inside the foyer and indulged in a few drinks from the bar - the gin menu is very fun. A beautiful hotel experience.

We loved it all - whilst it didn’t bother us and it was also outside of the hotel's control, the pub opposite our room (Martin room)was a wee bit noisy but it didn’t go too late and it was a Friday night after all. But just worth considering for anybody who is noise adverse. No complaints otherwise, a truly lovely stay.

The hotel's elegant interiors created a welcoming and luxurious atmosphere. The room we stayed in was both comfortable and beautifully designed. The bathroom was stunning, featuring a traditional freestanding bath and a separate shower, all in a stylish black-and-white design. The hotel effortlessly blends old-world charm with modern comfort. The hotel's location is ideal; it is right in the heart of the village, just across Union Square. This made it incredibly convenient to explore the area on foot. There are excellent coffee shops, charming stores, and a craft pub, all within walking distance. It is an easy drive from vineyards producing beautiful Pinot Noir wines.

The garden suite rooms were a great size, spotlessly clean and had a very comfortable bed. It’s a beautiful building with beautifully maintained gardens out the back - and our meal at the restaurant was terrific.

The bar immediately behind the hotel backed on to our room and was VERY loud with their music in the afternoon and early evening on both nights we stayed (felt like they were in the room with us) - upside was that they were done by ~8.30pm each evening.

An iconic hotel that lives up to its reputation. Stayed in a garden suite which was spacious, light & airy with good facilities. The restaurant has a pub feel, & was pretty full & lively. The food was outstanding ( the best we have had in 5 weeks in New Zealand & we have eaten at some special places). We made a detour on our trip to stay here & it was well worth it.

Only 2 minor irritations- extractor fan in bathroom was noisy in high wind, & nowhere to hang things in the bathroom

The staff were accommodating and super helpful ensuring we had the best type for us, even tho they were fully booked. We had a Garden Suite which looked out over the peaceful gardens. It was spacious and light and the bed was super comfortable.

Our breakfast experience in the bar didnt quiet match the hotel experience. Our OJ was forgotten, coffee took a long time and my breakfast order came out incorrect. It took some convincing the waiting staff to take it back and change. I got the impression I was to simply eat the ham instead of the salmon I ordered. When it did come out, it was lovely.

The location is great, so close to everything in the square. The room is a good size with plenty of space and the bed was big and comfortable. Really good shower pressure.

It is a little bit noisy, being really central. And everything kind of faces into the common walkway / outdoor area for the bar restaurant. The bathroom is quite cold. The addition of the kitchenette in what was once a wardrobe is a little bit strange, with the stainless steel bench and bright green wall not really fitting in with the look of the rest of the room.

The bathroom and design/style was the highlight having gone for the heritage suite. The restaraunt was also lovely - staff fabulous, food fabulous, vibes fantastic. Everything we wanted for a weekend away

There was quite a lot of noise from nearby bars but not much you can do about that and we loved the classic hotel vibes and had the room closest to the outdoor bar area so unlucky but not a major for me.

Our room was spacious, in the corner of the building looking out to the square. The doors to the verandah were right by the bed so we could just sit outside whenever we wanted. Beautiful weather made it even better and being close to shops etc was a bonus. The staff were really lovely. We couldn't have picked a better place to stay. They have bigger rooms in the garden area for families, so we will definetely be back again.

We got upgraded to the garden suite. Very nice big room with small kitchen counter, big bathroom and a lovely big bed.

You know you can expect some noise if the hotel provides earplugs. There are some bars around and in the weekend that can be a bit noisy. We were there in winter but can imagine over summer it will be rowdy on the street which does not provide a comfy sleep.
