A lovely, simply decorated and furnished room with everything I needed, very much in keeping with the historic hotel building and "Old-Town" Fredrikstad location. Very handy for wandering round the old town and for the free ferry to Isegran and the newer town. Lovely patio on the property. Good breakfast buffet in another building just around the corner - awesome furnishings in that room! Free parking was a bonus. Friendly, helpful staff : )

It is amazing to stay inside Gamlebyen. We stayed in the 2 bedroom suite off of the central plaza. What you are paying for is partly the experience of staying in something historical and authentic and being in the heart of the old city. It is a unique experience to stay here. You can see and feel the history of the structure and imagine what it would have been like living in the area hundreds of years ago. At the same time it is updated with everything you could want including a washer and dryer. The private courtyard was lovely at night and in the morning. The artwork on the walls is also phenomenal. This suite is very rich in texture and was just beautiful. The bedroom on the main level had a glass door (with a wooden dutch door outside). You could open it up to the courtyard, which was a lovely touch. There is another bedroom upstairs along with the large kitchen and living room. Downstairs is the main bedroom and 3/4 bathroom with the washer and dryer. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Wished I would have taken photos of the upper floors to post here.

Historical old stairs up to the second floor have narrow treads, but that is something that can't be changed. You just have to be careful on the stairs because you are staying in a structure that is mainly how people would have moved around in hundreds of years ago. Not exactly a negative, just something for people to be aware of.

I did enjoy the quiet and charming location and the overall experience was wonderful. I stayed in the upstairs suite and it was very clean, updated, and cozy.

It was nice that there was a breakfast nook around the corner, but the selection for the price seemed very high.

Staff and owner gave us a warm and personal welcome. You feel, if someone just has trained communication phrases, or if people really mean what they say! This hotel communicates in a fantastic way, picking up all points and questions of the guest. As a guest, you expect nice and clean rooms - this hotel adds a personal note: Each room is furnished differently, and small details (vase of flowers on the window sills, water and coffee prepared, a nice terasse in the atrium, ...) make the difference to big hotels.

The location, close to where we needed to go each day. The breakfast venue was good and very close to the hotel.

The room was quite small - but adequate enough for our purposes (to sleep)

The staff were very helpful and went that extra mile . Modern bathroom was lovely .

Location was perfect for visiting Fredrikstad, breakfast was good though not included in initial price and taken in a separate establishment maybe 150 m from the hotel

Gamlebyen is the (small) old town (1600 or so) within Fredriikstad. On Saturday busy with day tourists. The hotel is fully in style of the old town, yet very comfortable. Good breakfast facilities (Vaerk) and plenty of restaurant available.

Beautiful location. Check-in was efficient. very friendly staff. We had reserved a family suite - stunning apartment - beautifully designed. Quiet and private location. Hotel located within old, walled-fortified village - stunning area with an incredible history Comfortable and roomy living accommodations with modern appliances.

Apartment was located away from the main hotel - Would like to have a facility map linked to the hotel website.

The location was great and the breakfast was excellent, although it is in a nearby cafe and at extra cost. The staff were friendly and helpful. Good mattress.

The small room was cluttered; there was no free surface space to put anything on, not even a bedside table on one side of the bed.
