Clean and comfortable rooms. Attractive decor with some historical significance. The staff was polite and efficient. The breakfast food was fine… the best croissants ever! And fresh squeezed orange juice! Once we figured out we could request scrambled eggs we were happy. You will want to find a local grocery if you want to eat other meals at the property. There was a community kitchen.

The location was remote, and there were not many places to go out to dinner or pick up groceries nearby. We experienced unusual rainfall, so were not able to enjoy the grounds or patio much at all. Breakfast was a bit uncomfortable… not at all a relaxed social atmosphere. All guests sat at a large community table, but with no host to facilitate introductions or conversation everyone just ate very silently, and it was quite awkward. Felt like church. The staff that worked the kitchen etc were very attentive to managing the food delivery etc, but were in the kitchen working the rest of the time. We seldom saw anyone at the entrance desk, so asking about places to eat or of local interest was not easy. One last thing…You WILL need a car.

Beautiful property in the countryside. Great for lounging, star gazing, listening to the wind in the trees and unwinding. Junior suite was decorated very comfortably and stylish. Lots of room for luggage and the private patio with lounge chairs was a highlight for looking out over the oak trees. Pool was pleasant to hang out at and eating breakfast outside was a highlight. Fresh eggs available plus other quick options of yogurt, fruit, bread, cheese and meats, and coffee. Easy drive into Évora for dinner, or taxis/ubers are available. Great location for wine tasting excursions and to visit from Lisbon.

Minimal information provided on dinner at the property (filled up one night then no dinner offering on staff rest days). Minimal information provided at check in around the communal versus private areas of the facility, which we figured out on our own over time but would have been helpful.

The setting of the property is really beautiful, wondering around the grounds of the house is wonderful, with its hidden delights of ancient dolmens and menhir. All the nature surrounding you is really magical and the house itself is beautifully decorated and the rooms are spotless.

We were in a room in the main house and perhaps they could do with a little updating, the shower for example. And although immaculately clean, it would be nice to have a few more immensities in the room, like a small fridge, a kettle and a coffee machine perhaps! Breakfast in the morning is a bit of a challenge if there are a lot of people staying…everyone sits at one large table and if you don’t time it right there is an awkward wait for people to finish up and move off!

Beautiful location, just outside of Évora. All the space you want and nice and quiet to enjoy. Very friendly and helpful staff. 2(!) swimming pools to enjoy, very good and quiet AC in the rooms, cleaning every day, good breakfast. And you haven’t enjoyed the full package if you didn’t have an evening meal at the Casa: absolutely wonderful!

We had hoped the vineyard would be up and running, but this will take another 1-2 years. We will definitely come back for a tasting! The bar at the pool is a new service. Absolutely welcome and friendly priced. But you can notice it needs a bit of a promotion to it. It is not very much used, although it is very good. Maybe a happy hour or something like it would spice it up. You can both hardly call ‘weak spots’.

A must stay if you are in Evora. The location is minutes from the charming town and attractions, but also has a unique appeal all to itself. We stayed one night in early December, and the main house was warm and festive for the holiday season. Everything from the sitting rooms to the bedrooms was lovely. Our host was very helpful and gave us a history of the house and grounds, recommendations to nearby restaurants and attractions, as well as keeping logs on the fire for us. Breakfast was included, and was a complete spread. We spent the morning walking the grounds, a very enjoyable time. We will definitely recommend Casa do Governador to any friends visiting Portugal, and plan to return there ourselves.

We loved everything about our stay at Casa do Governador. A very peaceful spot just a few minutes drive from Evora. The property is extensive with olive groves and vineyards to wander through. The pool was refreshing after a hot day touring Evora. We stayed in the main house and the room was large, beds comfortable. Staff were very attentive and helpful for our requests. Breakfast was plentiful with hot and cold options and we had dinner one night that was delicious. Would highly recommend a stay at this gracious country home.

We would have loved to stay longer!

It has an air of casual comfort, a family home, with space to gather and space to curl up quietly. Food was fresh and tasty, from the perfect croissants and eggs at breakfast to Mom's best Portuguese comfort food for dinner. Walking the grounds past sheep, goats, cows and horses invigorated us, yet returning to sit around the warming fire, we settled deeply into couches for wine and conversation. Bedrooms are all about comfort and country views. It's so well insulated that the crying baby in one wing never bothered us in the other wing! A short drive to Evora, too.

Nothing...simply nothing to dislike. Fellow guests around the table or curled up at the fireplace were so pleasant and the staff thought of everything in advance. The host is a handsome country squire!

Nearly everything was perfect. The property is expansive and even more beautiful than the photos represent. There are many ancient historical landmarks on the property with interesting signposts describing the history. Breakfast was delicious and the rooms are bigger than expected and very comfortable. There are two beautiful pools and three large common rooms which can be used for relaxing outside the private rooms. The separate private villas looked absolutely gorgeous from the outside and I hope to visit again.

When we arrived, there was a phone number posted on the gate to call in order to open the gate and access the property. However, no one answered the phone after multiple calls. We were left outside with no way of checking in for some time, then a maintenance person who eventually drove by saw us and let us in. Even then, after arriving at the reception there was no one to check us in, so we waited some more until finally someone came to check us in. Answering the phone really must be improved for when guests arrive so they aren't in the same stressful predicament.

This is a very special place. If a touch of faded grandeur, prehistoric standing stones, objets d'art, excellent food, friendly and helpful staff, and enough space for everyone to get lost in appeal, then this is for you!

Dogs barking at night were a bit annoying, but nothing really detracted from the beauty and serenity.

Quiet location, close to the nearest town. Very relaxed atmosphere, with quietly professional staff pandering to every need. Fantastic room with big comfortable four poster bed and great bathroom. Two swimming pools with shaded areas, of which the saltwater pool was fantastic... it was like swimming in a bath. This was a 3 night stopover on a 3 WEEK tour of Spain and Portugal and was our favourite location. The breakfast had everything you could possibly want, including freshly squeezed orange juice and the in house chef cooked us a meal one evening, which was the best meal we had on our entire trip. Thanks to all the staff at Casa de Governador for giving us a wonderful stay.
