The bed and shower were comfortable after 7 hours of driving. After getting settled in the room, my friend and I walked to supper. We decided on Jimmy John's, but there are many restaurants to choose from on Main St. depending on how much you want to spend. We had a good night's sleep, and at 8 am, Robert had a great breakfast sandwich for us. There was a buffet with fruit salad, pastries, and yogurt. My favorite part of the stay was Robert telling us the history of the house while we had breakfast. I would stay there again.

The house is a little worn out and needs some renovation. It was clean and tidy, which was most important to my friend and I. There are antiques that were interesting.

Stairs. If you like stairs, stairs to the front entrance, stairs to the upper floors. Room. My 1 guest room had a queen bed w/ footboard, comfy chair, mini microwave, mini fridge w/ small ice box, Roku TV, large dresser w / mirror, rack w/ 8 hangars, small window A/C, tower fan, and small bath w/ shower. Everything worked, there was a couple of water bottles and some snack size candy bars, there was the typical shampoo, soap, etc. For me the room was comfortable. Vibe. Old time 'life styles of the rich and famous' mansion vibe. But it has seen better days. Keys. The room keys have a large pewter medallion featuring the inn. Make sure you return it or you will get contacted by Robert asking you to please return it. I put mine on the front desk as instructed in the PDF file as no one was around when I left. Robert called me, He said the maid had told him the wrong room number, but he should have remembered which room I was staying in [more on that]. Breakfast. I thought the breakfast was OK. There was a good assortment of fruits, pastries ['Sticky buns' were delicious]. There were yogurts, granola, nuts, and some cereals. Coffee is served by Robert, there is no hot cocoa [my favorite]. There is only one hot dish, prepared ahead of time. For my 2 days it was eggs over ham or sausage over muffin or toast. No pancakes or other hot dishes. Not the greatest breakfast but OK. Accommodations. All in all it was OK. Certainly not 5/5 or 1/5. It is rated 3 stars so 3/5 seems about right.

Parking. Metered parking, enforced 8:00am to 5:00pm Mon-Sat. Does take coins, $0.25/15 minutes. Only a few spots in front of inn. Otherwise have to hoof it from parking lot across street. Chinese innkeeper, Robert, said you don't need to worry about parking tickets if checking out in the 9:00am hour. Innkeeper. Robert, although nice, seemed a little forgetful to me at times. Forgetting my room number, and forgetting I was staying 2 nights. When I was packing my motorcycle for my day trip [I was going to check out the next morning] he came out and asked for the room key before he realized I was coming back and staying another night.

Walking into the beautiful home, being greeted by Robert, with never-ending first class hospitality, along with the comfort and history was beyond all expectations. Breakfast was truly the 'frosting on the cake.' Robert was so kind to take the time to share the history of the home, and the family, with us. This was our first trip to Dubuque, but would not even consider looking elsewhere to stay if we get to Dubuque again.

There was nothing that we did not like or that we did not enjoy. Wish we could have stayed longer.

The breakfast was outstanding. Similar to a good restaurant.

I’m a little d to have to climb to the third floor However the staff carried our luggage up and that was a big help. Also parking was in a public lot across the street which was a concern to me as the area I live in that would have been unsafe. Overall I would highly recommend this establishment The beds were comfortable, the rooms clean and the staff went out of their way to be both helpful and gracious.

It was a lovely old inn built in 1894. The interior has some beautiful spaces-living room, dining room and our guest room. Convenient location. Robert was so helpful and accommodating-above and beyond! The breakfast was delicious.

Unfortunately the power went off during a storm in the early evening of our stay and was not restored until after we went to bed. This is surely not the fault of the property or the innkeeper, but it made our stay less than perfect.

I loved that this is an old historic building with an interesting story. Robert , the owner, who is the only staff member is very interesting to talk to. He gave me a detailed history of the inn as well as Dubuque. The breakfast is amazing & exceptionally good coffee ( rare in America in my experience). Within walking distance of lots of sites, Monk bar which is good for a relaxed drink & close to restaurants. Easy parking

Room and bathroom were spacious. We did not hear our neighbors in the next room. Beautiful building. Breakfast was awesome, very nice presentation and plenty to choose from. The downstairs sitting room was so beautiful and the furniture was comfortable. There was music playing in the evening and at breakfast. Dennis is a very good host and storyteller. He knew the history of the building. Even though the second and third floors were remodeled from a home into a hotel, it still felt like it was all from the original time period. It was an enjoyable experience to stay here.

The drinks at breakfast could have been colder.

Beautifully restored Victorian home exuded ambience that was accentuated by the personable host's attention to detail and concern for my satisfaction. Bountiful breakfast served in a sunlit alcove in the dining room. Facility was modernized, very clean and comfortable. Lot of entertainment choices on TV with Roku. I would definitely stay here again.

No need for improvement.

This was a great experience. Had a hot breakfast served at the designated time. There was a beautiful spread of additional breakfast foods to choose from. Ate in the dining room with other guests and the host lead conversation that was inclusive to all guests. The room was private and had all amenities. The decor authentic looking. The bed was comfortable. The host was very personable and accommodating. We enjoyed our stay.

It's a beautiful old mansion located in a great location. Walking distance to restaurants, shopping and entertainment. Easy check-in and check-out process. Nice breakfast included with stay that came with coffee, juice, a hot egg and ham sandwich, pastries, fruit, yogurt and newspaper. Robert the owner was very friendly and helpful. When we went out to dinner it was raining and Robert lent us an umbrella. We plan to stay here again the next time we are in Dubuque.

If I had to complain about something it would be that I wish old places like this could get the funding needed to keep them in tip top shape. Would love to see this place get another restoration. It does need some work but nothing that affected our stay.
