Really quaint place for a quick weekend getaway. Really good service and the people were great. The hotel was quiet, easy to navigate and had what we needed. We liked the coffee shop and the gallery on site. I really liked the in-room fireplace. And having parking just behind the hotel made going anywhere or just staying in really convenient.
Though I am not a stickler about this stuff, and my husband cares even less, there were some little cosmetic issues they others may care about. A few cracked tiles in the bathroom, some cracked paint, and repair patches on the walls were fairly obvious. But, it's a historic hotel in a historic district, so it's not luxury accommodations by any means. But it is a cozy and comfortable place to lay your head.

The location is really perfect. It is right on the historic plaza, easy walking distance to many restaurants, bars, art galleries, and shops. The hotel also has several unexpected hidden gems. There is the reasonably priced James Beard nominated (winner?) restaurant that has indigenous food. And the private DH Lawrence art exhibit.
Room was fairly basic. Bathroom can only fit one person. Shower head had very low volume. The room was a bit dark, as it fronted an alley. The daytime front desk clerk was responsive, but gave off the vibe that he had better things to do than help customers.

There was no breakfast offered. The Coffee shop was in the lobby but had a few wrapped croissants from the day before and 3 breakfast burritos.
At the $200.00 price point and up...a little real simple breakfast would have been a class act.

La Fonda location is in Taos' town center close to shopping and restaurants. Once there we walked everywhere. A store next to the lobby with coffee and breakfast items made it easy to start our day. Parking is in the back and easy access to the rear entrance where there's a stairway and elevator to all the floors.
La Fonda is an old hotel. Acoustics aren't great but that was to be expected. It's not the fault of the hotel that people find it necessary to stay up until 3 am watching tv. The beds could probably use a mattress update. That, however, isn't a game changer. I would stay there again.

Really lovely hotel. The rooms were really clean, super comfortable, and nicely decorated. Great restaurant and coffee shop on site. There's also an ATM in the lobby. There are a few cute little sitting areas in the hotel if you don't feel like sitting in your room. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Perfect location on the Taos Plaza. You can also see the Forbidden Art Collection (by D.H. Lawrence) for free!
I probably missed the fine print while booking, but parking is an extra $10 per night. Just an FYI.

Very friendly and accommodating staff, comfortable, relaxing and conveniently located, and a special opportunity to see D. H. Lawrence's paintings. The lack of breakfast didn't matter at all, as Noula's next door provided a convenient and satisfactory breakfast with excellent coffee.
The lack of Uber and Lyfft services in Taos means a 20-minute walk to the bus stop at Taos County Courthouse for travellers without transport. This is not at all the hotel's fault, however. A shuttle service would be wonderful, but is probably too difficult to arrange for just a few guests.

We loved our stay here - we felt so comfortable. The hotel is right in the middle of town, is very clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the facilities were all in good shape (bed was comfortable, furniture didn't look worn, etc). The hotel itself is a very attractive historic building with a great look and really has some "soul" to it. I was a bit skeptical to book here based on the reviews but really we were happy with every aspect of this hotel.

Historic hotel right on the Taos Plaza. Beautifully decorated with Southwestern art. The room had very nice touches as well, such as a silver and tile mirror and a hand-painted dresser. R.C. Gorman paintings hung in the rooms and in the lobby areas. We checked in late, collapsed into bed, and checked out early, so didn't have much time there. Many reviews mention the cafe on site, which opens at 7 so is very handy (used to be a Starbucks but is no longer a chain cafe).

Very nice location, large room, fantastic sofa, free parking due to changes in plaza parking plans. Staff was helpful, respectful, kind and pleasant.
Air conditioner dripped on our suitcase and clothing (no stains or damage), duvet on the bed was basic to look at and to feel on our skin, coffee shop didn't open that morning. It was a bit of a pain to carry our luggage up to the 3rd floor.

This was the perfect location to experience Taos. It wa right on the plaza so was easy to walk to lots of different shops. There weren't as many restaurants within an easy walk and some are only open till mid afternoon, but we found some good ones to eat at. Also, we took the Taos Trolley Tour which was really great and it left from the plaza so that was convenient also. It took us out to the Taos Pueblo. The hotel staff was excellent and always so helpful.
The little cafe was convenient but I was disappointed that they only had decaf coffee one morning while we were there. I can't drink caffeine so that made me a little sad.
