The best location in town I think, because you get the penguin village and the area nearby with a bunch of galleries, cafes and restaurants around. Right across the river you have the buzzing city life area with museums, shopping, night life and more cafes. The owner is a nice lady who also hosts bachata dance class, you can ask her to participate. The place offers "Korean breakfast" which has multiple variations, but if you didn't have spicy kimchi soup for breakfast before - here's your chance :) The dorm area is clean and new. There is a balcony if you need to dry your clothes, the bathroom is in the room as well, which is nice. Hike to the mountain is a short bus ride away. If you go a bit deeper into the hood, you'll discover the local place 60계치킨 광주방림봉선점 - the best Korean chicken I had in Korea. They can also make the red sauce version not that spicy if you ask.

The bunk beds have very little overhead room, they are too low, you can't sit up properly, which was a bit uncomfortable. The lockers in the rooms have combination codes on them, 3 out of 4 locks were not working because probably somebody did not reset the code after their stay.

Quiet, nice clean facilities, comfy beds, tasty breakfast... everything I could wish for in a place to stay! The personal lamp above each bed is very convienant. Also the location is very ideal, near downtown, the subway, and a lovely river to walk along! I will definitely book here if I travel to Gwangju again!

I don't know about the other rooms, but the room I stayed had the toilet in a separate room than the sink/shower. This was fine, just mildly inconvienant. Also, I was okay, but some travelers may have trouble sleeping on a top bunk if that's what they're left with.

Clean, quirky space in a perfect location for buses to Mudeungsan national park, downtown and the penguin village.

Check in was really difficult because no one was there. We tried knocking on doors and calling the number but there was no answer. Finally, the owner replied and it was all fine after that. Just a tip for the owner: stick a sign on the self check in computer to say that it isn’t working. We tried for a really long time to get it to work because it’s the first thing we saw when we entered.

We didn't know that "futons" meant sleeping on the floor with a very small mattress. We had accidentally booked this since we were a group of 3. When we arrived we were surprised and asked to change rooms if possible. The staff were very understanding and were able to switch rooms which we really appreciated. The room we were switched to was spacious and clean, would recommend if you plan to stay in Gwangju.

The check-in process was a little strange, there wasn't really a lobby and we waited a while until someone greeted us in the stairs and we then had to pay cash for our stay. I would prefer to have the option to pay by card.

We really enjoyed our stay a lot. As we traveled in off-season, the owners even upgraded our room without any extra cost! The owner was very kind and helpful; nice breakfast was made and we were able to put our bags in the accommodation before we could check into our room. The accommodation was also only about a 20 minute walk from the archives and culture center of Gwangju, and really close to the cute Penguin village!

Non-koreans staying here needs to know that you can only pay in cash if you don't have access to Korean ways of paying, at least when booking through Booking.com

Clean, cozy and quiet place. Bed was comfortable and the room had a decent size. Host is super nice and helpful. The Korean breakfast is really good. Location is great - lots of cafes and restaurants around. Metro is a short 10 minute walk away.

The check-in was a bit confusing as there is no reception per se. There is a number to call on the monitor in the hall, then Ari will be there in like a minute. :-)

The hosts were very nice and accommodating, the Korean breakfast was tasty and enough for me, as well as a couple of complimentary oranges/mandarins. Although I only stayed one night in the lovely city of Gwangju (somewhere I had been before) but the hosts made me feel welcome and even managed to 'upgrade' my room. We also discussed certain aspects and issues relating to Korea. The husband designed most of the building himself, I believe. The area is perfectly located, especially if you want to visit the Penguin Village ('Mullae' area), and the 'Comfort Woman' statue there... as well as at least one Gwangju 5:16 / Uprising museum nearby. A few, newly opened coffee outlets too. I would recommend this place for anyone visiting Gwangju.

I wasn't sure if there was heating but it turned out that the switch was behind the giant Hello Kitty teddy bear in the room.

Very comfortable bed, clean, and quiet room. Also I loved the Korean style breakfast, was super delicious. On the surroundings of the hotel are plenty of cafe and restaurants, you should check them out. Taking aside a few comments, I think this is a very good choice to stay at Gwangju!

It's not a bad thing of the hotel, but bear in mind that you have to walk like 15 or 20 min to the closest bus or subway station if you pretend to move around the city by public transport. I found a bit difficult to get in touch with the host after breakfast time since she sometimes was not around and I didn't have a local number to call her, for example, there was no toilet paper when I checked in and since I couldn't reach her nor found her around the house I had to buy it myself from the convenience store hahaha. Also, would be nice if she could give you a bit more information of the guesthouse during the check in process, like where is the kitchen, if you can use the kitchen after hours or not, store food there, etc.

Clean and comfortable room or dormitory. Great facilities. Breakfast included. The staff was friendly, especially the lady at the breakfast. Calm environment, still not too far from shops and restaurants.

The digital checking was a bit complicated for me.
