Firstly, consider I am someone who is very well traveled across most parts of the world and have high standards for my stays and the service I receive. I can confidently say at Sunshine bay met all my expectations were met, it has all the traits for a perfect relaxing stay: Really really good food, much better then the top rated hotel I am staying at right now also on the island, incredible service, the staff super attentive and friendly, which is very important, and very good living conditions, wide rooms with comfortable bed, nice terrace, etc. Props to the manager Kilosa for being super helpful, going so far as to making sure I am to recover some AirPods I left there.

We loved everything during our stay. Especially our 2,5 years old son Adam was so happy there. Very kind, better say friendly employees and the manager too. All of them still smiling, helpfull and villing to make our wishes come true. Truly cozy room and the whole resort. A huge portions of food that was always soooo delicius. It's gonna be extremely demanding for local management and staff to do additional improvements of any kind 😏👍.

What could have been better? Well our stay could have been longer 😪

The beach was beautiful, very scenic. The outdoor area of the hotel is very nice. The location is on a lovely part of the island, with a view of Mnemba island. Its very convenient for boat tours. The breakfast was ok, but the dinner was better. Prices were not so bad, as in previous reviews. But of course not cheap. The reception staff are very nice and friendly. Internet was very good in the outside areas: surprisingly fast for Zanzibar. Note the beaches in Zanzibar is all about the tides. When its low tide, there's no swimming. But you can swim in high tide, which was usually around the evening time when we were there. As for the location, Zanzibar mostly consists of hotel resorts. Otherwise there are only villages for locals. So don't expect to walk around and find shops and restaurants :)

The beach is not so private. There are beach boys who approach you every time. They are very nice and friendly guys, but if you are looking for privacy or peace and quiet it is not ideal. There is no mini bar in the room. So you can't keep your water cool. There was not a good Wifi signal in the rooms. However, if you use Zantel data on your phone, you get a very good signal.

this is a fantastically quiet and hidden place with three cascading pools and a private beach with a view on some picturesque rocks. we had a three years old with us and loved it here. the rooms are cleaned very day, at times even two times, and sprayed with mosquito spray. there is air condition and a system in place against electricity outages. one can walk on the beach by low waters endlessly and, equipped with water shoes, provided by the hotel, do some weave jumping. the restaurant was good, they left no wishes open, and the staff marvellous. we loved all of it so much so that we extended our stay by two more days. thanks sunshine bay. and we look forward to checking out the massages tomorrow!

I cannot think of anything that I did not like.

The rooms was amazing I even recived a free upgrade to sea view .the food was nice they had a set menus but later found out we didn't have to order from the set menu .the gardens are beautiful along with the pools.on the day of departure I revived a free massage which was really great .I’ve stayed in 6 hotels in Zanzibar this was the only hotel that we recived blankets instead of sheets to sleep with which was really nice.

I diddnt particularly like the location as it limited to us staying in the hotel.the food and drink I think was rather overpriced

First of all Kilosa, reporting manager of the hotel welcomed me under short notice with open arms. He immediately accommodated a late request and ensured the room was made available for me and my friend. Not only did he provide amazing support but Kilosa ensure we had transportation sorted in order for myself and my friend to move around comfortably and also ensured we were booked on an activities swimming with dolphins and snorkelling at Nungwi beach of which wasn't included in the hotel reservation. He also ensured we were fed breakfast after the cut off point of serving breakfast. Communication. Attention to detail and the ability to go above and beyond was 3 stand out key features that I had experienced.

Evertything was perfect

Absolutely everything!!! We had an awful experience with a local villa who gave our accommodation away so by chance ended up booking sunshine bay hotel and we are SO glad we did. From the moment we got there we had impeccable service, the girls at reception are just the best!!! We visited for our honeymoon and despite only staying for a night they were so kind and gave us a room upgrade with champagne. It was an amazing experience we will never forget and we will make sure to be back but for longer!!!

Absolutely nothing except the poached eggs were hard boiled.

My husband and I loved our stay at Sunshine Bay very much. It's a small hotel with cosy rooms and beautiful gardens. Overall we must compliment the whole staff of the hotel. Everyone was so friendly and helpful to us and the service and the food at the restaurant couldn't have been better. Everyone really made us feel in heaven. Even though the tide was low most of the time we enjoyed the beautiful beach just lying under the great umbrellas and watch the fishermen bring in their catch.

After 3 relaxing days a group of 17 frenchmen arrived and the peaceful ambiance at the restaurant at dinner time was over. They couldn't care less that there were mostly couples who most probably chose this peaceful place to find relaxation and romance. In our opinion small hotels like the Sunshine Bay should not accept any groups. They'd rather go to a big hotel with full board and animation where everyone is noisy anyway. We definitely would like to come back to the Sunshine Bay but only if at the same time no group will be there.

Beautiful gardens & pool Good restaurant with different options every day Beautiful and secluded beach Friendly staff

No air conditioning : it gets very hot at night, there are no windows but air does not ventilate the room, sleeping is not easy Very difficult to swim in the ocean due to the number of sea urchins, even at high tide There were construction works on the beach right next to the hotel, so you hear hammer and have loaders come and go all day, with workers staring at you. I would have appreciate advance notice from the hotel or some commercial gesture to compensate the disturbance.

Very good pool area (with 3 pools) and enough sun-beds. Good breakfast and many good delicious choices for lunch and dinner in on-site restaurant. Very helpful staff. Spacious rooms. Beach is nice, but not very good for swimming (beacuse of the tide). Hotel also has SPA with different treatments (massage, nails etc).

Hotel is not in the "center" and so there is not many choices for "evening-night" activites and also for other restaurants.
