Excellent value, my single room had everything & was very comfy. Friendly & helpful staff, everything clean & good quality F&F. Criticisms of it being drab or faded miss the point. Food simple but excellent. Steak pie was good size & full of good quality meat, not the usual "mainly gravy". Full Scottish breakfast was just that, full & tasty. It has plenty of parking, wonderful grounds & must once have been a very grand house. Very handy for station & trains into Edinburgh. Where else can you get a proper single room plus very full cooked breakfast for under £70 ?

Nothing. It was everything I wanted.

Although the hotel is old it is kept very nice and clean. We booked a superior double and were impressed with the size. It was great to have the sofa area, the make up area, the fridge and coffee facilities and another sitting area by the window. Although we never had time to use the restaurant or bar it was good to see them open and functioning. We had a car and were staying for an event in Tweedbank, we also enjoyed visiting Melrose for an early dinner. We could have stayed for many more nights quite comfortably. It was also nice and warm, the heating clicked on at a reasonable time (I was up at 6 and it was ok) and the duvet was very warm too. The TV had access to Netflix and Amazon prime so we enjoyed a film in bed.

The grounds of the hotel are lovely. Even although we faced a carpark it did not spoil our view as, the beautiful trees were visible from our window.. Lovely comfortable bed and loads of space in the room. Loved the big bay window with the original sash windows. Lovely girl on reception who was very helpful and welcoming

The only point I can say is being unable to open a window, however this is not a complaint as I understand due to health and safety of the original windows we were unable to open them .

Swiftly served, nicely cooked. Presentation could be better.

Poor choice for evening meal, most had to be pre-booked, difficult when you don’t check in until 3pm or no one had time at breakfast to tell you what to do. So we ate out after our first evening. Having had a phone call from James to say although we had booked in 8/9 months ago the hotel was not going to be open for our first night 7/4 but they would book us in to a hotel in Melrose. We stayed at the George and Abbotsford and it was fine. I has a text today 10/4 to say if I wished to book in early on 7/4 I could book in for a fee ??!!

Bedroom very spacious. Very clean. Quiet and comfortable. Lovely en-suite. Everything I needed. Breakfast is included and is a generous cold buffet plus full Scottish cooked. I also ate in the bar in the evening. Had pizza and sweet potato fries. Delicious. The fries were freshly cooked and crisp perfection. Staff are all friendly and attentive and its an easy walk into Melrose. For the price point, I thought it was excellent value. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay

The hall, stairs and exterior are tired and dated but the rooms, bar, restaurant etc. have been updated and are very nice.

We had a superior room which was a great size with super comfortable king size bed, 2 chairs and a table, small fridge, tea & coffee making facilities, iron, ironing board and hair dryer. It was clean and nicely decorated. We enjoyed the breakfast, great choices and the hot breakfast was beautifully cooked. The dining room staff were friendly, efficient and couldn't be more helpful. The hotel had just been taken over by the new owners when we stayed there, they were in the process of upgrading rooms and other parts of the hotel but that didn't have any impact on our stay whatsoever. All the staff from the manager to the housekeeping team were amazing.

No. there was nothing we didn't like, we had a lovely weekend, and hope to return later in the year.

The location by the River Tweed was handy both for driving in and for walking into Melrose along the river. The staff were all lovely, friendly and attentive. There was tourist information available and I could buy a little booklet of local walks. I thought the hotel offered good value for money for the price I paid, and reminded me of hotels I have stayed in when I was a little girl.

Some of the other reviews mention that the decor is a little down at heel, and I think that's probably true; there were a few threadbare carpets etc. But it was clean, and I really didn't find that in any way impacted my enjoyment of the stay, especially not as it was very affordable.

It offer breakfast and dinner ,although It mostly caters for the aged ,when looking at the menus , But anything is better than having to walk 2 miles into town as taxi service is totally useless.

Very hard to get a taxi to and from railway to The Waverley hotel, most taxi drivers ignored us or made excuses not to collect.we ended up having to drag 2 big heavy suitcases almost 1.5 miles Maybe Waverley should look a running a shuttle bus ,with a small fee ,

Character building - had a great meal in the evening - staff were great

Were placed in a disabled twin room - the room next door against the bedhead was a utility room. The noise and vibration from the room next door made it impossible to sleep in the bed by the window - so had to move the bed and also sleep with the pillow at the foot of the bed and feet up the top of the bed - only noticed when I layed my head down on the pillow. Reported to the Manager the next morning and they promised to look into it.

The staff were excellent. Breakfast and evening meals were served attentively and courteously even though there were a large number of customers. I asked for a bulb to be replaced in my room and this was dealt with quickly despite the shortage of staff available. The room was warm, comfortable and peaceful. Wi-Fi fast and good. The location was perfect for attractions.

The hotel was clean but could do with some redecoration and updating. Like the Derwentwater Hotel in Keswick (part of the Coast & Country Collection), it is rather faded despite its grandeur. The restaurant menu (although tasty) could be improved from its basic offerings.
