I really enjoyed the old-style homey feel of the place. The staff were very kind and welcoming and it was nice to have them greet you so warmly as you departed and returned from your day. The deer park is a short walk away which was great especially if you want to have some quieter times in the early mornings to deer watch without the busy crowds. The surrounding area is very peaceful if you don’t mind a longer walk to the subways/city center/convenience store - there are buses nearby if you’re not a fan of walking! The kitchen had all the necessary utensils if you want to make your own meals! Would definitely stay here again!

The sound insulation was not great, as the couch and kitchen area was right next to paper thin room divers that do little to shield from noise. Make sure to bring ear plugs! There’s also only two bathrooms and showers in the downstairs area that is shared by everyone, which often meant a lot of waiting especially if the place is fairly booked.

Good-ish location, 15 mins walk to main attraction, but I also enjoy all the little streets and alleys around the guesthouse. The staffs are friendly and helpful, happy to give recommendations too.

The cleanliness in the toilet needs a step up. It smells and you can actually see the toilet has not been cleaned. Fair that it’s a guesthouse with other guests, but I’ve been to other guesthouses with pristine hygiene in the toilet. Other than that, you also have to pay for/ rent bath towel, which is a first for me during my travel in Japan. Other guesthouses of the similar calibre always offer free towels, or at least the 1st one

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The facilities were also very interesting and unique as the building is a repurposed merchant’s house. We purchased the breakfast both days that we stayed here and it was tasty both days. I would highly recommend doing this.

We stayed in the private rooms and needed to go through an open-air space to get to the bathroom/shower area. As we stayed here in the winter, it was a bit cold. It wasn’t a problem but is something to be aware of if you are sensitive to temperature changes.

I really liked this hostel and even extended my stay by 2 days to explore the wider area. At check-in, Yuyo (sorry about the spelling) was particularly helpful and always had time for the guests. Wifi was good. Hot showers and very clean throughout. The cafe has a limited menu but food was great! I would definitely stay here again.

Female dorm is a bit cramped with terrible lighting - organise your bags when there is daylight! Make use of the ear plugs, you can hear everything between male/female dorms.

I loved the traditional style of this hostel and that it was clean, had an in-house washing machine, the wood floors and it's proximity to Nara Park. I got on really well with the staff member from Hokkaido as he had very good English and his story - he walked from the south border of France all the way across north Spain to Galicia which took him 1 month and improved his English. Inspirational!

Like nearly all the (cheaper) backpack hostels, I did get bed bug bites but they usually last a day and for me not a problem.

You really can do nothing wrong with the Kamunabi Guesthouse, I loved my time here. Everything is very clean from the beds to the kitchen or the bathrooms. The kitchen is well equipped and for a longer stay a washing machine is available for a little extra charge, which I found very convenient. The Guesthouse is very close to Nara Park too. The staff was always nice.

Two negative things I noticed while I was staying here was that the wifi was not working a couple of times. Also there is little space in the male dormitory room to put your luggage. Opening a normal size suitcase on the floor is not possible.

This place has everything you want in a hostel, the 2 young men working at the reception were both very helpful and friendly and spoke english, i was allowed to put my bicycle in the garden in the centre of the house where it was very secure so i was very happy with that. The hostel/guest house has a small cafe at the front and serves breakfast and coffee and there is also a kitchen area with a dining table elsewhere in the building.

The staff was so kind and helpful. I loved how they waited and watched to say goodbye to the guests when they checked out. It felt like being welcomed into someone’s home. Yuya was so helpful in planning my day in Nara. The property is also beautiful. Quiet area.

The location is okay but not the best. You do need to walk 10+ minutes to get anywhere so after a long day of sightseeing, it can be a bit tiring. Bed is okay

A very welcoming Japanese guesthouse. International breakfasts served here are good. Comfy room and beds and we have a room next to the balcony with good view. Good size room where there are spaces for our 3 luggages. Tatami floor with futons bed. We are travelling with kids, and we have no issue with the sharing facilities Inc. the showers and toilet. But the stair can be an issue for a younger kid especially at night if they need to use the toilet at the ground level (the toilet at the Level 1 is faulty). Checking in were super easy and the host is very helpful.

Good experience for the kids but we did have a little concern that the noise our boys made may annoying other guests too. As it is a conversion from the traditional japanese house to a guesthouse, there are rooms next to ours and below.

The tatami room was very traditional and beautiful, and also very comfortable to stay and sleep in. The sake tasting was of great value and a nice experience. The location was good, close to the park and not far from the station. The area is nice to walk around both during the day and night. We had dinner there and the okonomiyaki was absolutely delicious. The owner was super nice as well! A really good cook honestly eat something there.

We were a bit unlucky and the toilet upstairs was out of service and had to use the one on the other floor but it wasn’t really dramatic. The stairs are very steep and it’s scary. A bit far from the train station (~20min walk) and if you’re carrying heavy luggage it might be annoying.
