Personally, I think the buffet breakfast and dinner are definitely worth every penny. There is a wide variety of options available. Secondly, the staff is friendly, professional, and genuine in every way, making your stay enjoyable. The rooms were spacious for a family of 4, and the onsen area was splendid.
We booked the Mountain View room, but there wasn't anything as such. Even though smoking is only allowed in the smoking room within the hotel, the stench of tobacco lingers everywhere. Kinda kills the mood of staying in a nice onsen hotel. Lastly, there were particles suspending in the outdoor onsen, did notice a couple of bathers walking away after looking at it.

Onsen was very good and available in 3 locations. On the Ground Floor & 8th Floor of the main building as well as on the 3rd Floor of the adjacent wing. Onsen on the Ground Floor of the main building is by far the best followed by the 8th Floor. Not recommended to use the onsen on the adjacent wing as it's small and mainly for the hotel customers that stay next door as there were 3 hotels that are interconnected. Food was pretty good as the hotel is inclusive of both breakfast & dinner.
Location is pretty far if relying on public transportation. it takes approximately 6 hours by train from Sapporo To Kushiro and another approximately 2 hours by bus from Kushiro to the hotel. Be prepared for a full day of travel if using public transportation. Renting a car from New Chitose Airport will definitely save a lot of traveling time as it only takes approximately 4 hours from the airport to the hotel by car.

The baths are absolutely incredible and would make a trip to this area worth it on their own. Do try the different baths are they are different and unique, with a wide variety of bassins and showers, along with stunning views of the lake. The buffets, both dinner and breakfast, are an absolute feast. I heavily recommend booking both. They have a huge variety of food (Japanese, Chinese, Western) and the quality is also very high. The hotel facilities themselves are huge and impressive. You will find a variety of shops inside the hotel itself. In general, all shared facilities are top-tier.
Parking is done off-site after dropping your bags on location, and a shuttle system is organized to the parking lot (as well as to the Kamuy Lumina show). Having booked a cheaper room, the futons were a bit tough and the pillows smaller than usual. (We did not however have time to make a request for larger pillows which the staff might have accommodated.)

An onsen hotel with a lot of facilities that can be enjoyed by all ages. Our room was comfortable and hotel is located near next to the lake and surrounding attractions. Service from staff is also very excellent. I would like to especially thank the foreign staff at the hotel for offering such good service when checking in/out and also guiding at the buffets. I can see that they have received very good training from management. Front desk staff were also excellent. There was always staff around the hotel happy to assist and greet at any time. It is our first time staying with Tsuruga group of hotels and won’t be our last.
Buffet could be further improved - some options were not the freshest but otherwise still pretty decent and tasty.

- The public outdoor onsen is exceptional and a must go! They switch the baths for women and men at regular timings each day so i highly recommend going to both if you have the time. - The buffet dinner and breakfast included in our stay had such an amazing spread, definitely worth the price - Just next to Lake Akan, very nice views and you can just walk there from the hotel to do all kinds of winter activities like ice fishing, snow mobile rides etc. - There is a cute shopping street just across the entrance where you can pick up some snacks and souvenirs.
The staff seem a bit clueless and lacking in training as they gave us the wrong information on several occasions. Eg. we asked what was the last entry time for the breakfast buffet and the staff told us the wrong time which caused us to almost miss the buffet entirely. We also had trouble finding the buffet location as there are multiple restaurants in the resort so we asked another staff for directions who directed us to the wrong place even though I showed her the restaurant name on our meal ticket 😑 Some of them are also quite rude and have a bad attitude.

This hotel has a large public bath with a variety of pools such as whirlpool, bubble, reclining bath, waterfalls, etc. The open-air onsen (on the first floor of the main building) facing the Akan Lake is the best. There is a vast choice of food at buffet dinner and breakfast including Japanese, Chinese and Western. Our room is spacious with a nice lake view. The Ainu village is just in front of the hotel. Staff are very attentive and well-mannered. There is a van shuttle that brings you back to the hotel from the free parking lot.
The hotel is a bit pricey and the lobby style is too traditional for me.

Location is everything, it's so central that everywhere is walkable, Akan Village is about 10min walk, opposite of the hotel rows of souvenir shops selling varieties of Akan carvings and artifacts and convenience stores. The hotel seems to be the largest in Akanko region, with 2 big buildings - main building and the Tsuruga Wings with a combined total of 6 to 7 large communal baths and spa. The hotel itself is like a big mall and self contained, one can easily spend whole day within the premise. It also provides shuttle bus for guests to its offside parking lots and Kamuy LUMINA. Room is big and very clean a big contrast to the very small bath room that has the bathtub, toilet and sink all in 1 cubicle. he TV set is abit dated and only 1 English channel. Breakfast and dinner are served in buffet style with Japanese, Chinese and Western cuisine and drinks and desserts. Food is delicious and seats are plenty. The onsens and spa are fantastic, if you have time, you can even onsn-hop from &),nl is that the boarding area for cruise ship embark/disemb

As a hotel, Akan Yuku no Sato Tsuruga is impressive. We were only there for a night to experience staying in a ryokan. Though not typical of a traditional Japanese ryokan inn, the large roomy bed rooms did conform. I must add that the beds were made up for us in the ryokan style after we returned from dinner, and were very comfortable. We did not experience the Onsen facilities which would have helped, but suitable attire was provided in the bedrooms. We were most taken by the exceptionally good dinner and breakfast buffets; which in itself would justify the money spent. The spacious hotel interior design and exhibition gallery were outstanding. Though we did not have a view of the lake from our room, the surrounding mountains with ski slopes and a view of the town made up for it. The Ainu Village was a disappointment being mainly shops and a few eating places, but the Kushiro Crane Reserve on the way to Akan Lake with their breeding program was much more rewarding.
This ryokan was more of a five star hotel than a traditional Japanese ryokan inn. A serious attempt was made to conform to the original ryokan especially with the bedrooms; however, despite the staff greeting you in splendid kimonos and the interior decoration that echoed the Ainu culture, we did not feel the personal touch of the older ryokans. Even a taste of the Spa for customers who did not wish to experience the Onsen; a stream to dip our feet in may have helped. We felt the lakeside garden should have been more dignified and traditional, without the floral mound for tourists.

Location is great with a beautiful view of Lake Akan right in front. Near to the various activities available in Lake Akan, unfortunately I was not able to book an activity with the operating partner due to limited slots. Love their onsen and buffet breakfasts/dinners. Special thanks to Mr Ichiro Terada for patiently helping me with my bookings for activities and shuttle bus requests. It helps a lot that he can communicate in English. Look forward to visit again.
The response from their booking.com platform could be better, we have to drag our luggage in the snow from the bus terminal due to no response on whether there could be a shuttle bus bringing us over. Fortunately, there is a shuttle bus service to bring us back to the bus terminal when we leave.

The hotel located just next to Lake Akan, few minutes walk from bus station and easy to reach. View from my room is well worthy as well. And, I love the wood engraving gallery of Mr. Masamitsu Takiguchi very much, it delivers the spirit of Ainu. On the other hand, qualitiy of buffet and indoor onsen is reasonable. (we did not go to the outdoor one.)
room is a bit stuffy when i stayed in freezing December. I have to open the window to get some cool fresh air.
