The location was excellent, we absolutely loved Sumner Beach. Beautiful restored home, so tasteful and comfortable, with the most amazing views over the beach. Our hosts were welcoming and friendly, we felt relaxed being in their home. It's great that the upstairs accommodation is self contained and private, so even though you are in someone's home, it doesn't feel awkward at all. We would love to go back some time in the future.

The location was amazing! Gayle and Norm, our hosts, were exceptional- full of information and incredibly helpful. The accommodations were simple, comfortable and very clean. There was outdoor space which was nice. Right across from beach and a good restaurant. Easy walk to town and restaurants. Very good value with exceptional hosts!

Nothing. We had some internet issues on our first day and they completely fixed the system within a few hours.

I am forever grateful for the weekend I spent there. I was very tired, I went there to relax and I had a wonderful time. The owners were infinitely kind, the dog Bruce was very funny and cheerful. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and amazingly beautiful! I will never forget the days I spent there, it will be an everlasting memory.

Nothing to complain about, perfect accommodation on a beautiful beach with nice people.

Everything. We've stayed here before and could hardly wait to get back. The room was very clean and the bed was super comfortable. We slept well all 3 nights. It's just across the street from the beach and close to eateries and shopping. Access to Christchurch is easy and quick. There is secure parking on the property and an area by the garage to turn the car around. Our hostess was very welcoming, accessible, friendly and accommodating. And Bruce, the dog, was playful but well behaved. All in all, we had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend Cave Rock Guest House.

Gayle was an amazing host, so friendly and accomodating. The property is in a perfect location to be able to walk to everything you would need…cafes, groceries, chemist, library, beach. The guest house was so comfortable and very clean. It is value for money! We would most definitely stay again!

The location was superb, the unit very comfortable and with a great view of Sumner Bay. There were plenty of cafes and eateries to choose from including a good bakery with great coffee nearby. Gayle and Norm (and Bruce) were lovely hosts.

Very special location on the waterfront in Sumner, just a short ride to funky Lyttleton. Spacious, comfortable room with updated bathroom. Coffee and tea self service.

It seemed like the owner was unhappy with our leaving used coffee cups in the common sink but there wasn’t any dish soap or sponge available.

Right across the road from the beach, with a beautiful sunny dining/lounge with big windows. Spacious bedrooms. Handy kitchenette.

There is no door between upstairs (the apartment) and downstairs (hallway also used by owners) so there is not complete privacy/sound proofing.

Grace has allowed us to place our luggage early in the morning at her house while the room was still occupied but I had to return our rental car. We could also check-in earlier than advertized as soon as the room was cleaned. She borrowed us an umbrella while it was raining. Sumner is a nice place and you can easily reach downtown Christchurch or the airport with bus line 3. The room is quiet and was very clean.

My favourite place to stay when in Chch. Love staying opposite beach, love the vibe of Cave Rock Guest House, beautifully appointed. Easy to travel into city from Sumner. Love your dog!
