The location was close to restaurants and shops so that walking was the best option. The twin rooms were spacious. Rooms were clean and fit for purpose.

The double room was a little small and there was tile damage on the bathroom walls where you could see damage to the wall paneling. There also could have been more coat hangers in the hanging space, as we used all that was provided and would have liked a couple more, as it was winter during our visit. Perhaps the room was a little to hard to cool down if the heater was turned up too high. The boys had to get a key to open their window.

We stayed a tripple room. It was huge. The furniture is not fixed to the walls or floor so you can move it around as you need it. We moved all the beds together and slept as a family of four (one elementary school kid, we announced the number of guests beforehand and payed for the additional breakfast at check in) very comfortable in the three beds. An additional blanket was in the cupboard and each bedding consisted of two pillows anyhow, so no problem.

The location of the hotel is a little far away from the station. With luggage it’s a GOOD 15 minutes walking distance. At check-in we discovered there is a loop bus (100 yen for adults, 50 yen for primary school kids) going from the hotel to the station (10 minutes bus ride). It would have been nice to have this information on the general information page about the hotel on booking as well. The name of the loop bus is ベニちゃんバスbeni chan bus.

The pain au chocolat and croissants at the breakfats buffet were excellent. The dumplings and salmon were delicious too! The bacon and sausage were nice and the soups and rice were nice too. Despite being a little limited, it made for a satisfying breakfast. The bathroom had good hot water instantly and the coffee machine in the room was impressive. The staff were very friendly, polite, and helpful.

The breakfast buffet was nice but was a little limited in some parts. The scrambled eggs were like a runny paste without flavour. No fruit except a limited choice of orange or pineapple.

We love the variety meals we can choose for breakfast (local foods was delicious!). Location was great walking distance to restaurants and Kajo park. There is an Izakaya restaurant/Yamagata street food nearby the hotel. The hotel is 15 minute walk from the train station. Helpful staffs, managed to booked transport for us (11pax) on the new year's day! 30 minute drive to Zao Ropeway to visit snow monster (Must visit in winter) 1 hour drive to Ginzan Onzen (Can skip this-Not suitable to bring kids) Washing machine and vending machine was good to have on our 5th floor.

Its old hotel but its clean, basic and has it charm.

I love the breakfast. It was a good boost with all-you-can-eat Japanese breakfast. The parking is easy to reach. The staff were friendly and helpful. I will book again if I have a chance to visit Yamagata!

Real comfortable vintage yet classic hotel. It's basically located in the heart of Yamagata city which you can get access to almost anything you want such as groceries supermarket, Izakaya, food chain, AEON mall and etc. great deal and value for money to stay in the hotel.

nice big room, well presented hotel a bit old but very well preserved and looked after

we stayed here for one night and in the morning of checkout we went to the restaurant to have a coffee before we left and we saw people eating and drinking inside but a closed sign on the door when we asked the staff we just want a coffee they said sorry they are closed multiple times. I found this to be either strange or racist as we were the only white people wanting a coffee. this left a sour taste in my mouth and would not recommend

The hotel was nice, beautiful, the VR experience was a nice detail and the location nice, surrounded by nice restaurants. The izakaya with the number 1 of the map they give you is GREAT

Everything was good, only one little thing... Door of the toilet needed a little wipe with a wet cloth.

The only reason i'm not giving a 10 is because I chose this specific hotel because of the private onsen(since one of us has tattoos) but it was closed and he wasn't able to enjoy it after a long day of skiing

The grand hotel is 'grand' it has a western high class aesthetic and the staff uniforms convey the grandiose feeling of the entire place. The room we had was very spacious and had everything we needed. The coffee facilities were the best we have had in Japan. Over that last month.

The location of the hotel can be a bit challenging to get.to if you arrive in Yamagata by Train. It's a bit of a walk and a bit of a drive should you manage to get a taxi.
