There is so much to love about Torii-Kuguru! It was our favourite place we stayed across 3 weeks travelling around Japan. The hostel is in a beautiful old converted shop building accessed through a Torii gate, and we stayed in a lovely, comfortable and clean private room with traditional Japanese futon bedding. My partner and I agreed that a hard-to-define warm and welcoming feeling just seemed to emanate from the walls of this place. Given the age of the building, it rattles and creaks as people move around and sound (e.g. voices) travel easily, but this was not an issue for us at all – rather part of its appeal. The common areas are clean, calm spaces to be in, and every staff member we encountered was so friendly and helpful. Loads of lovely food options nearby, including the hostel's sister-venture cafe a few doors down, and it's about 15 minutes' casual walking from Okayama Station, which is very convenient. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
There's nothing really! We totally loved this place through and through.

Very cozy vibe, and friendly staff. The area was so lovely that makes me want to live there longer. Provided indoor slippers and personal locker. Shower is basic but good enough and very clean. Water pressure and heat was very nice. Common area was very nice and cozy. Bed comes with sockets and reading lamp.
Quiet far from the Okayama station to be honest. But i enjoyed the walk. Very nice city. I stayed in the upper bunk bed and it was very shaky... I have general female shoes size but the ladder made me feel I might fell down. However the bed was very cozy. Only two showers and the day I stayed was a Saturday which the neighborhood bathhouse was closed.

The place has a retro vintage vibe that I really liked and a local shopping street within walking distance. The room was really nice and had tables and air conditioning.
The place was a little far from Okayama station but there is a bus stop that goes to the station nearby. The rooms are on the second floor and the stairs were quite narrow and steep making it a quite difficult for people with suitcases. The lock in the shower room was very wobbly which makes it a little concerning.

Super friendly and flexible staff! Support available in Japanese and English. We made a last minute reservation and arrived at a strange time and they were super kind about it all. Great location! At the end of a covered shopping arcade, about 15 minute walk from the station. The building and associated complex are also super charming. Nice amenities, clean spaces, and warm bedding. All basic amenities included, like towels and hair dryers. We traveled during the winter and they even offered hot water bottles and an electric kettle to fill them. Between bedding and in-room heating unit we were very warm. TLDR- Highly recommend!

The staff were very friendly and helpful with making reservations for local activities and sharing their knowledge of the neighborhood. The room was spacious and comfortable and the location was excellent.
One of the bicycles we hired couldn't be adjusted to suit different people so it was uncomfortable to ride. However the other two bicycles were good and one was even electric.

The host is so friendly and helpful ( I can’t recall her name😭). She explained everything you need to know about Okayama. The dorm is unique. I met lovely new friends from other country as well.
1. The stairs are steep😰 I had to drag my heavy luggage carefully. 2. The location is quite confusing and quite a walk from Okayama Station.

Very nice hostel, even though the building is old, the interior has been renovated and I really liked it. Great area, very artistic part of town with a huge feeling of community. I'm glad I stayed there! The main station is also easy to reach on foot, super convenient!
The walls were very thin, which is to be expected in a Japanese house. So I wish shower times would only be until 11 pm and not until midnight. Otherwise all guests were really cautious to not make too much noise.

Really good location, less than 15 min walk to Okayama station and near a lot of restaurants. Nice traditional but refurbished building, I liked the decor inside. Friendly staff Very clean
It is an older traditional property and the doors are glass so I recommend ear plugs and an eye mask if you’re sensitive to light/sound when sleeping. Lounge was small and not much of an atmosphere, if you wanted to meet people it may be difficult

The privacy curtain around the bed, the cozy duvet and extra blanket to keep warm we’re all appreciated. Clean, spacious, hot shower rooms. Free green tea! Staff was friendly.
I found the (13 minutes) walk from the Okayama station felt far with heavy luggage and wished I was closer to a station. The dorm room door makes a loud noise when it opens/closes so that can wake you up depending when people come in and out.

This is a lovely hostel with great beds and showers. There is an art studio. The shared spaces are cute and clean and there are lots of suggestions if you’re interested in art.
We stayed in a twin room facing the street. There was a strong light coming from outside which wasn’t comfortable. I recommend putting up a black out curtain; the same for the door which has opaque glass.
