The historical atmosphere & the location were excellent. The cleaning staff was superb & the room was super clean. The continental breakfast was a wonderful way to start our day. We enjoyed the availability of nightly entertainment & thought it was of high caliber.

Well our first night didn’t go so well. We watched other guest check in before us get excellent attention by the staff with directions, times & places in the facilities to dine, etc. we, on the other hand, were given our keys & directions to the elevator. We had to ask the front staff for basically the same information that other guests were freely given when checking in. We were jet lagged & it was our first time in Dublin. Consequently my sister & I were lost in a very bad part of town as we were not given map nor directions. Our cell phones were of little use.

We got there at 6:30am and they told us that our room was ready for us. We thought we would have to leave our bags and wait until the usual 2pm check in. It was so nice to get some sleep. My family loved the free Irish breakfast but I loved the free continental breakfast that was upstairs. Fresh pastries, fruit, cheese, meats, pancake maker, and fabulous coffee and juices. The location was a few minutes walk to shopping areas and temple bar. But it was so quiet, except for the seagulls.

The marble floor in the bathroom was very slippery after you showered. Our daughter slipped on it and hurt her big toe. Just ask for a good floor mat at the front desk, for safety. They provided us with one after we asked.

The check-in staff was wonderful. We arrived early and they were happy to stow our luggage while we wandered Dublin. They went out of their way to try to get the room ready for us early and though unsuccessful, we appreciated their effort. The breakfast is two options - continental offered in the upstairs restaurant and full service Irish breakfast downstairs. The Irish breakfast is HUGE and delicious. They offer live music Friday evening and we were able to enjoy a pint of Guinness and enjoy the singer who was quite good. The location is perfect! We were able to walk down the steps and catch cabs almost immediately or just stroll a few minutes to be in the thick of things on O'Connell Street. *** Please note if you are a wheelchair user, ask about elevators. The only one we saw and used a few times would not accommodate a wheelchair. We didn't need the access but it's something we notice as we travel with older family members. There are a number of stairs required to get to many of the rooms, restaurants within the hotel and out the front.

It would have been nice to be able to adjust the temperatures in our room but that seems to be under general control of the property. There are a few chairs in the lobby area (beige) that really need replacing as they're visibly dirty and really worn. Other than those few quibbles, everything else was great.

I like that it is a collection of houses that have been turned into a hotel, where the charm is still there. The staff was great and pleasant. The rooms were a decent size. I liked having multiple sitting areas to choose from, a restaurant, and nightly entertainment.

The location descriptions were off. It is farther than advertised to things like the Dublin Castle, the Guinness and whiskey factories, the river, etc. and not expected. Walking is not a problem, but when you find that things are farther away than you thought they would be and anticipated, it becomes an issue. Especially since it rains a lot.

Such a lovely hotel and very likeable and friendly staff. We loved the size of the room, which was great as we booked a family room. The breakfasts were great too. I have gluten free requirements and they were able to adequately cater for me. There's lots of history attached to this hotel so it was very interesting to walk around and soak up the ambience. Lots of interesting little nooks and crannies to explore. It is also a great location to explore Dublin, as only a few minutes walk from O'Connell Street. They were also very happy to swap the pillows too :-)

The only thing that was a negative for us was the shower. It wasn't the best in terms of flow as the hose looked a bit dosed. Maybe a few other hooks in the bathroom would have been useful too, but otherwise we loved this lovely hotel. Also make sure you're aware that car park charging is paid separately to the main booking.

The property is in a great central location with bars and restaurants aplenty. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. We ate in the hotel restaurant on the first night, the food was delicious and the staff gave us drinks vouchers for two free drinks each which was a nice gesture. The breakfast was very good and with a choice of continental and Irish, there’s something for everyone. You can also take a light breakfast away with you if you have to leave early in the morning, they give you a takeaway box for this. The hotel generally is very nicely decorated and furnished and the beds in the rooms are very comfortable.

It is slightly on the noisy side but that’s to be expected when you stay in such a central location.

Easy walking distance to the centre of Dublin from this hotel just past the top of O'Connel Street. Good value breakfast with a cold buffet or a table service hot food, all served from the cellar restaurant (used to be split, cold buffet upstairs and hot food downstairs). Atmospheric building with plenty of nooks and crannies on the ground floor to find a comfy sofa or chair for reading if you want to.

Temperature control in the room was a play-off of setting the radiator valve and opening the window - took a night to get the balance right! However having a window that opens a decent amount is a bonus for the fresh air.

Our stay at the Castle Hotel was excellent. The staff was absolutely amazing. We arrived way before check-in on our first day and they were able to get us into our room early. Great facilities -- loved having a restaurant right there for when we were too jetlagged or exhausted to go looking for dinner. The continental breakfast each day was perfect. Location was great -- quiet rooms but we were right by city center and near a lot of bus and tram lines as well.

Only had one complaint -- our room (which was non-smoking) often smelled like smoke after it had been cleaned. I don't think someone on the cleaning staff was actually smoking in the room but I wonder if maybe there is a smoker on staff who doesn't realize how much tobacco smoke and the smell can cling to things and transfer. It wasn't horrible but we noticed it every time we came back to our room after a long day. The one day we put up a do-not-disturb sign and the room wasn't cleaned, the smell wasn't there when we got back to the room.

The room was warm and quiet. Before the trip we were concerned that the nightly live music in the restaurant would disturb us. However, we did not hear anything in our room and greatly enjoyed the Irish and country music in the restaurant. The hotel itself has a pleasant Georgian period ambience and was extensively decorated for Christmas. All staff very helpful

The food served at breakfast and dinner was plentiful and hot but not of the highest quality. However, the price we paid was not excessive. You get what you paid for !! The location of the hotel is on the north side of the city - at the end of O'Connell St. Most of the city's museums, attractions, bars restaurants are south of the river. The hop-on hop-off bus stop is very close to the hotel, which is fine for daytime if you have a ticket, but at night you need to walk to the hotel or take a tram or taxi. This is not the fault of the hotel, but something to be aware of.

November 2024

I arrived early on Friday morning (Nov 15) via a red eye from the States and was told there were no rooms available. It was recommended I do the paperwork but come back at 3:00 to get my key. I went into one of the lounge areas to relax since I had time to kill when the sweetest employee came and found me and told me she found a room for me. That is exceptional customer service!! I apologize that I did not get her name but I wish I did so I could thank her. (I was tired) Also....I love the music and everyone that worked in the pub/restaurant. The musicians were great.

One VERY minor thing - and it could be a cultural thing - but I would have liked a wash cloth. When I asked about this at the front desk I was offered additional hand totals which was very kind. Really not an issue.
