Location of Kamenoi is very good but only if you are driving (you should be when exploring Aso anyway). It's a 15-20min drive to the attractions like the crater or Cuddly Dominion where you can take a helicopter ride to view the crater. Onsite parking is plentiful. Wanted to thank the staff for leaving a bag of resupply amenities outside of our room since we kept the do not disturb sign on - many other properties wouldn't care to so this was a lovely touch.

The hotel facilities are dated but definitely sufficient for a comfortable stay. Breakfast and dinner consisted of the same spread so take note if you are staying more than 1 night.

Good value onsen hotel with half board. Good facilities, quality room. Food at breakfast and dinner are sufficiently good quality. Helpful staff members with the exception of one.

One staff member at the buffet station reprimanded me for taking extra beef slice when I am sharing it with my wife. I only got 3/4 slice in my bowl. Feel like the staff was imposing a war time ration on food. Felt belittle and offended especially we were on a happy holiday. Will pay 5,000 yen for that extra slice if have to.

It is a very nice hotel. I stayed in the Kumamon room style. It was so cute. Breakfast and dinner are buffet style.

In the morning, there was an announcement in Japanese, so I had to use translate. It was fire alarm, but many guests didn’t leave the room because they didn’t know what happened. I rushed to 1st floor, but actually it was false alarm. This disturbed our rest time. Therefore, the hotel should’ve announcement in English.

Facilities around the hotel has lots of variety for families. My kids love golfing area. And the big lawn for multipurpose use. We chose Kumamon room. It is new and cute. Food is good with lots of variety. Ramen at night is delicious. Hotel has washing machine but dryer took more than hour to dry even only 8-10 pcs of clothes.

Onzen is very old. The hotel switch Men and Women everyday. lol It is quite new to me.

Amazing onsens (some outside), very relaxing atmosphere in the garden, perfect for a mountain retreat. There’s a free shuttle to Aso station and back every day.

It’s far from any convenient store if you don’t have a car. Far from the city. The staff is very rude and not welcoming at all from the moment they know that you don’t speak japanese. Maybe they should review this issue before opening a hotel, which by definition is made for welcoming tourists:)

Jumping from 3 to 4 stars has been a great experience. I liked everything, especially dinner and breakfast. The classic japanese style room was pleasant and peaceful and the mountains view was gorgeous. The onsen is of course a plus and there is a shuttle to the train station. I don't see what could be better than this . Better to book half board because there is nothing nearby to provide food. Unless you have a car or book a taxi. An absolute awesome stay.

Location of hotel is at good point where you can go to Mt Aso and Kumamoto if you want. Big parking lots and property. I booked with meals options so if you don’t wanna to go out, food is there. Onsen is one of the facilities which is big. Relax when you back from daily activities. Wi-Fi is also good. My booked room is big with Japanese style and western. It makes me feel good.

Breakfast and dinner were included in my booking. Buffet style but I thought it would have Japanese set?

The management accommodated my request. Location with the in-house hot spring was great. View from the room and hallway were amazing as the hotel is sited at the foot of Mt Aso. The room size was much bigger than the ordinary Japanese hotel room. Room was clean, and the front desk team was very helpful.

The hotel catered to busloads of domestic and overseas tourists so the buffet dinners and breakfasts were well attended. There was a rush for food which was not immediately replenished. Surprisingly, the quality of the sushi was quite under-whelming.

Staffs are perfect. Waitress in breakfast buffet, 宮田，she was very caring and attentive, in the absence of asking, she served me a glass of water because she noticed that i was going to take some medicine. She made my day and deserved a special appreciation from me to her, and her hotel.

Bed is too small for two people

Dinner is exceptionally good with the luxurious buffet spread. Quality of food is also high despite the wide selection. Public bath is very clean and foreign friendly.

Maybe it is the room I got - it doesn’t come with an attached bathroom. Other than slight inconvenience, it is not really a huge problem especially when the public bath is extremely nice to use.
