We've been coming here for about 10 years now, and it never disappoints. We first came to the restaurant (whatever you do, have dinner there!!!), which is reason enough to come back and stay at the hotel too. The superior rooms are wonderful, with a huge bed (we're both tall and still almost lost each other!), the bathroom has a great shower and bath, and there is a separate toilet. The garden is full of flowers and is so relaxing to sit in after dinner or just in the afternoon, to read a book. Location is convenient, an easy trip to Mont St Michel, or to Granville, from where you can do a trip to the Channel islands, but honestly I'd keep coming here if it was in the middle of nowhere. If I have to nitpick, a fridge would be handy if you plan to stay longer.

The hotel has a charming exterior and public rooms, and the restaurant is excellent, with beautifully prepared dishes. The gardens are very lovely. And there is a parking lot! I would be happy to return some day.

The decor of the rooms wasn’t as charming as the exterior. They looked more like 1950’s motel rooms. My room was hot, and I wasn’t comfortable leaving the window open because I was right over the parking lot and could hear people talking. Also, someone could easily have climbed in the window in the middle of the night. I should point out, though, that I didn’t turn on the provided fan. I realized the next morning that I should have done so.

Dinner at La Croix d'Or was absolutely outstanding. Excellent menu, good selection of wines and attentive service. Great location for stopping off on the way south from Cherbourg and visiting near by Mont St Michel. An easy walk in the centre Avranches with off street parking is a bonus. Whilst I would say the room was average, the historical nature of the main part of the hotel and the superb food mean I would stay time and time again.

The rooms where very quiet with view to a nice garden. We could park our car on site. We used the stay in Avranches to have a quick look at Mount Saint Michel and then have a short travel to our ferry in Cherbourg, which all worked pretty well. Since we arrived pretty late, we had dinner in the hotel. The food was excellent (however, a little warning for all those who think food has to be cheap: We spent the same amount in the restaurant as for the stay in the hotel overnight and one can spend easily more!). Also the breakfast was very good and a good start into a long day, which is not always the case in french hotels.

An old and well maintained hotel with character. The room was cozy, clean and very large. The staff was polite, welcoming and professional. We had a wonderful meal in the restaurant, the best meal of our week long stay in Normandy. The menu was exciting and the wine list was excellent. They also had a very good selection of single malt whisky, which made me very happy. We also found the town to be an interesting place to visit and there did not seem to be many touristst around in spite of the proximity to Mont Saint-Michel. Would highly recommend this as a place to stay if you are visiting Mont Saint-Michel

We were in one of the very comfortable rooms in the row of one-up, one-down bedroom building; very conveniently the last in the row next to the on-site parking. The central garden running down to the main hotel building is a delight. Our dinner was excellent and our very friendly waitress ensured I could order a special apple start as I had done many years breviously despite it not being on the menu. Now considered too heavy by the clientelle.The breakfast was adequate but in comparision with the dinner a pale with little choice.

We were travelling up from the south west and needed a place to stop over for one night. We also wanted secure parking as we had electric bicycles on the back of the car and Hotel de La Croix d'Or was perfect. The food in the resturant that night was superb and a delicious breakfast with plenty of choice the next morning. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the room was spotless. We were sorry to have only spent the one night in Avranches and would like to have had the time to explore it a bit more

There was a lovely restaurant that we took advantage of and a well-planted and tended garden in the common area. Our room was under the eaves up a short flight of stairs in a newer building. Luckily we were provided with a fan and the evening cooled down nicely. We arrived on our bikes and there was a parking location in the open garage inside the secured gates.

it’s a charming old coaching inn dating back to, I think, the 16th century. The restaurant is beautiful with some tables looking onto a beautifully maintained garden. The food is excellent and reasonably priced, you can choose from a number of differently priced menus. The service and the staff are excellent. We have been many times over the years and have never been disappointed

There is nothing we dislike about the property

A nice hotel with very welcoming staff in an old but renovated building; parking available which is a great plus. Very good breakfast.

The size of the room, but the main problem is the lack of the air conditioning; it was hot outside during our stay, and the room we got at the first floor was incredible hot, and the small fan provided by the hotel was almost useless.
