The hotel, as a converted Pasta factory, is huge with lots of open space. The pool is equally huge and a big reason for us staying here. It was 40 degrees C on our first day, so the pool and excellent aircon was a must. We did not eat dinner at the hotel, but we enjoyed the light lunch each day - which was delicious - and the included breakfast was very good too. Service was excellent. The staff were all super-lovely and helpful. It is a little way out of the tourist old town Matera, but the concierge called us a taxi whenever we wanted to head into the old town (approx €12) and we walked back (20 mins) when it was cooler after dinner. You wouldnt get the space or pool in any hotel in the old town. There was also ample free parking and the motorway is just 3 minutes from the hotel (5 mins direct to Bari). So the location suited us fine. I would definitely recommend Alvino Relais Mulino to other travellers

We absolutely loved everything about this beautiful place and will highly recommend it. All the staff were wonderful, professional, and very helpful, especially Ali, who welcomed us and made us feel at home. The food was delicious for lunch, dinner, and breakfast, and the place was very clean with beautiful decor. The spa was amazing. We especially enjoyed the fresh pastries and coffee at the daily breakfast. The bed was incredibly comfortable - it felt like sleeping on a cloud. We also loved the pool; the water was super clean and the deckchairs were perfect for relaxing, and super comfy. We will be back for sure😊

This is a beautiful and chic hotel and spa. It is a restored historic mill. The hotel was still getting ready for the high season when we were there. Once the new fountains, terrace and swimming pool are up and working it will be absolutely terrific. A spa treatment is included in the reservation. The rooms are very nice, beds so comfortable I had the best nights sleep of my whole vacation in Basilicata and Puglia. It is only a 15-20 minute walk to the old town of Matera, and a 5 minute drive to the Belvedere Murgia Timone where you have a wonderful view of the Sassi and the ravine. The hotel has on-site parking which is very important to us; the staff is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, and it has a state-of-the-art restaurant serving haute cuisine by a recognized chef. This is was the most memorable and best hotel we stayed in during our time in Italy, and we plan to return in the near future. A “must stay” during your visit to Matera.

While the hotel was a fair walk from the historical centre, the extra space in the rooms and bathrooms made the hotel well suited for a stay in Matera. The staff were excellent and extremely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The breakfast was very good and the cleanliness of the rooms was noticeable. We have travelled widely throughout Europe and this was one of our better experiences.

The distance from the old town was about the only negative.

The hotel was wonderful, we had a fantastic spacious room which was super comfy. The staff were so friendly and were keen to help recommend the best things to do in the area. We had a delicious lunch and would highly recommend eating in the restaurant. It's about a 15 minute walk to the main piazza where the Sassi area begins and has parking included.

A 15 minute walk, the location was a little further from the cultural hub of Matera than we anticipated.

Gorgeous pool. Very large nice rooms, style is a little dated. Very helpful staff! I’d accidentally booked for 2 nights and they sorted out the issue for me, and they were very helpful for any requests I had. 5 - 10 mins by car from the old city so have to taxi or park but nice retreat from it. Convenient parking.

All the staff were extremely friendly, attentive and helpful; in particular Katerina ( F&B) and Ali (reception). The chef's Matera-sui was the best dessert. It was easy to find and fairly close to the centre.

A really minor criticism was a lack of information about the hotel and area in the room.

The hotel is new and every detail screams luxury. They gave us a free upgrade for the room, because it was my wife’s birthday. Also they left a prosecco with 2 glaces in the room. The room is spacious and the bed is extremely confortable. The spa area is nice and included in the room rate. The best hotel in Matera. Only 10 min walk from Sissi.

The professionalism of the staff was exceptional especially Eugene Mick and Ali. Their hospitality expertise is a credit to the hotel owners. Having these guys front of house is all the advertisement one could need. They truly are the heart of Alvino Mulino...
