A beautiful hideaway in the mountains and a wonderful experience of Japanese culture. Staff were exceptionally helpful. We were served our room in a private dining room and the meals were delicious, served with a real eye for detail. There is a choice of public onsen or private onsen ( which needs a reservation). We could have stayed a lot longer to explore this beautiful spot in the mountains.

Our room was supposed to come with a view of the mountains but it was a partial view, mostly of the roof of the hotel. In the morning someone lit the fire below our room and the room filled with smoke which was unpleasant.

This hotel was an awesome experience. It is located in the mountains above Tsumago and a perfect place to stay on the Nakasendo Walk. The rooms were very authentic and luxurious Japanese rooms and the Kaiseki dinner was amazing - at least 10 courses and just delicious. There were six of us and we had our own dining room and it looked like most of the dining experiences were set in private areas. The onsen was great with indoor and outdoor pools and I enjoyed the cold plunge pool. The shuttle pick-up and drop off were very good. It was a very special experience.

Sublime view of the mountains covered in forests. I wish I would have had time to explore the srea. The lounge area was very inviting. I particularly enjoyed the outdoor Onsen. I went several times. The room was very spacious and equipped with everything I wished for during the stay. They made my bed during the great dinner experience, what seems to be custom but for me it was a lovely surprise. So much food and so delicious. The waiters were very kind. Shuttle service was on time and communication with the hotel beforehand proactive friendly and helpful

The location, the food and just astounding views of the fall foliage inside the property and the mountain.

Better communication, multiple lapses. First with booking of the private onsen, despite checking nobody informed that pre-booking was necessary, yet the day we areived it was blocked for entire stay. Additionally, it took months for them to respond post booking on the shuttle bus, etc. Though the staff was very attentive and really helpful, this left a not-so-good mark.

Great onsen outdoors after walking on nakasendo trail. Kieseiki meal for dinner and breakfast. Really feel like you are away from it all in the mountains. Great to have a 20 minute shuttle from Tsumago.

Horse intestines and horse meat as part of the dinner and breakfast menu. I requested not to have those items before arrival but they still were served. They did accommodate my wife with a vegetarian meal. Also, no coffee served in the morning. Instead, you could go to lounge area and bring it back to your table or drink afterwards.

This hotel is a gem. Like a beautiful oasis it is set in a fabulous location. The rooms were large but basic but get clean and well thought out. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A free transfer was offered to and from Nagiso station which was a great help. The hotel is peaceful and feels so tranquil. The onsen baths were wonderful. But the best thing is the dinner and breakfast. What a wow!! Can’t wait to come back

Can’t think of anything. It was all fabulous

The onsen was amazing, and the dinner was a real highlight of our trip (even the bits we weren’t so sure about eating!) the whole experience was wonderful.

We arrived off the hotel minibus with a lot of other guests, and we were left a long time to be welcomed and checked in, despite the fact that we were the only guests with a very young child. This was disappointing, especially as the staff didn’t seem to be moving very quickly.

This hotel is in a lovely wooded setting away from Tsumago. Guests are treated to a free shuttle from Tsumago near the Nakasendo Trail and return ride to either Tsumago or the Nagiso Train Station. Super convenient for hikers. Dinner had the most extensive menu I’ve been served anywhere! Loved the 400 year old Japanese Cypress raw edge table in the lobby.

My room was clean and well appointed, but could use some freshening up. The woodwork was a bit worn.
