- Breathtaking views of the river, with a small vineyard and a farm with goats and chickens. An amazing experience for kids and families seeking a peaceful getaway. - The service is attentive and professional. I received a personal message with a candy upon arrival, which was a nice touch. - The dining experience was excellent, featuring a "Farm to Table" concept. I enjoyed delicious figs that were harvested just a few hours before. - The rooms are spacious, modern, and have private balconies with great views. - The spa is a standout feature, offering a beautifully decorated space with an indoor pool, Turkish bath, and sauna. The ambiance is both relaxing and luxurious, making it a perfect retreat within the hotel.
- For the quality of the hotel, the rooms could use better mattresses. That said, they're not bad. - At 8 AM on the last day, they mowed the lawn right in front of the room, making noise. I understand the need to do these activities outside the hottest part of the day, but they could have been more considerate. - Too many unused spaces within the hotel. I would recommend creating a gym for guests.

The views from the hotel are second to none - truly breathtaking Breakfast was great quality and offered a range of fresh produce, offering everything you could wish for. Much of the produce came from the hotel's own garden, which you can walk around. The hotel farm was also a nice addition. Two pools was a bonus.
Staff were friendly, but the hotel was clearly short-staffed. We had a long wait for service at the pool bar on arrival although the food was good when it eventually arrived. The approach roads are narrow and windy as others have remarked, but very quiet so not too difficult to negotiate.

The hotel itself is lovely, with most of it built around a beautiful tiled building: very cool seeing the old building inside the new. It also smelled wonderful... a zen spa smell throughout. All well maintained and welcoming. We spent one entire day relaxing around the hotel and spa, without feeling like we needed to go anywhere! One of my main requirements in my hotel search had been a room with a view of the Douro... the huge windows leading on to our own balcony more than met my expectations. Truly the reset we were looking for. One thing to note: although we'd escaped from our own for 2 nights, the hotel was very child-friendly. Overall, I consider this a good thing! Worth bearing in mind either way: if you're looking to take yours away, they'd be most welcome here; on the other hand, not everyone wants to hear Baby Shark from a nearby table at breakfast.
The pillows were insanely squishy! I asked for a different one at reception, but was told that they're all the same. This surprised me for a 4-star hotel, since I've stayed in plenty of 2- and 3-star hotels with the option of a firmer pillow. I stuffed mine with spare bathroom towels instead. Also, the poor barman was rushed off his feet in the 'aperitif' slot before dinner, and with people ordering food in the bar, he had to go down to the restaurant and get that, too. This affected the quality of attendance and we ended up not ordering as many rounds as we would have, because we couldn't! He was doing his work admirably and swiftly: more bar staff needed at peak times.

It all started with the outstanding location of the Douro Palace Hotel & Spa, it's a 10 min (if that much) taxi ride from Aregos rail station, and it's calming inviting signature scent (which I wanted to get a bottle of HINT!, HINT!) then came our room with it's view of the Douro River, vineyards and pool, yet another piece of heaven all ours for the next couple days. Good size room, quite, very comfortable beds, clean, good vibe, our terrace was just supreme, bathroom good size, thou I must say I don't get those showers with a 1/2 door? I always felt like I didn't want to soak the floors so I found myself always sapping up the floors (not what I signed up for, could have just been me, who knows), also had a running bowl all night (rm 204, just didn't want to make a big deal of it). Staff is just exceptional, professional, extremely friendly, tentative, and just welcoming. We had a breakfast plans quite the daily spread (thou same spread daily) it was quite a tasty variety (would be nice if a tip was left for the server as the tables don't get cleaned by themselves PEOPLE! (could be just me). Had several dinners at the Resort also quite a tasty (thou limited) menu, I even had the same meal twice whilst there and enjoyed it like it was the first time tasting it. Grounds are just what the soul needs, we walked about to the vineyards then to see the baby goats, and parent's Romeo and Juliet. The immediate pool area speaks for itself with it's views, I/we couldn't help feeling like I/we were constantly sliding off the edge of the earth whilst laying on the loungers as they're on a slant (I do understand it extends to the view) but you're just sliding off the lounges even with towels as a liner. Overall it was just an absolutely Great destination for us all. Very thing about the Douro Palace Hotel Resort & Spa what what we didn't know we needed.

Overall the hotel is great! Beautiful setting, views and great food. Staff was friendly and engaging.
The spa treatments are bad(( Quite expensive, but the experience is not what you expect. Masseuse was in a hurry, and it’s just putting oil all over you body and than rinse it) not a massage at all. When my wife was sharing her feedback with the spa staff they just smiled and brought the check) Nobody didn’t even ask about the preferred pressure and health restrictions. Not professional, and not worth the money (almost 90€ for 50min massage). The communication with the hotel via messages is hard, they just copy past some information and don’t response to your questions. I asked 4!!! times and only then a get a confirmation for my extra bookings. Definitely should fix that.

Lovely gesture of a bottle of wine from the local finca upon arrival. Beautiful views all over and well maintained property with a modern vibe. Architecturally great how the original features have been preserved, and very nice to be able to take a walk along the herb gardens and see the animals. Breakfast felt very complete.
A bit strange that only one complimentary bottle of water was provided for the whole stay - especially as tap water was a bit off and we used half of the bottle to fill up the coffee machine. Dinner was nice, but food quite salty! The spa package we pre-booked felt a bit overpriced, especially as there was a better promotion going on locally when we arrived in November. The spa pool filled up quickly with children and families Saturday afternoon which made it a bit less quiet and relaxing than we had imagined.

The Property itself is just a 10 ride from the Aregos train station, and is outstanding, from your signature scent at you enter the reception area (must have a bottle, HINT!, HINT!). Our room was just what the soul needed, we had a river view, from the morning fog, to the setting. Room was a very good size enough room for us both, bed is deluxe very comfortable, bathroom good size, pillows (meh). The Staff is absolutely accommodating, friendly, knowledgeable, they made our stay so easy. We had the breakfast plan well worth it, thou same daily, there's enough variety for your stay, everything was tasty and fresh. Same with the dinner menu thou limited the food was that good we had repeat dishes and tasted as good the first time, needless to mention THE WINES. The pool area and bar (but let's talk about the 2 liter white sangria that wreck me) I must say yes gorgeous view, great pool (showing it's age) if you're sitting on the very upper tier of the lawn you have this tendency of sliding off your lounge (I do get the placement of them but, hummm?) We both had spa services, GREAT massage, one in particular was a facial (not the facials we're used in NYC, to be expected thou), there version more just facial creme and massage, thou extremely relaxing experience, we enjoyed it very much. The property has it's own farm with Romeo and Juliette (the goats) great little walk about area, we loved walking in the gardens in the morning then just onto the vineyard. Quite breathtaking, we totally enjoyed our time at The Douro Palace Hotel Resort & Spa, worth every penny.
There was a running water all night in the toilet bowl (rm 204). Yes I know I could have told the front desk, but I was on holiday, besides they were booked solid.

We had a beautiful view , the room was perfectly sized, the bed is comfy with clean and fresh linens. Garden and the outside pool area also looks pretty, too.
Steam in the spa could have been refurbished, the relax area would be nice to be open for everyone, not only after massages. Restaurant was a bit overpriced compared to its quality level, but since the hotel is very isolated, you do not have other options.

Getting to the hotel is a tad challenging but the views along they way make it so worth it! The hotel reception and check-in was good, the rooms big and comfortable. The one senior looking barman was amazing. He saved the day for us.
Service in the bar and restaurant is woeful at best. The poor staff look like 1st year hotel school trainees and are completely out of their depth with (what seems) like no guidance at hand. The food is decent, wine list expensive but extensive.

The continental breakfast was great and the facilities are wonderful. The hotel has the most stunning view to the river and the rooms are comfortable and spacious.
We paid an insane amount of money to participate in the Christmas lunch at the hotel, and the food was horrible. It tasted like the leftovers from the previous night.
