The Lansdowne is a former coach house located in the very centre of Calne; directly opposite a bus stop which offers services between Chippenham and Swindon. The hotel itself is currently in the process of being renovated, however, the reception, bar and rooms look exceptionally modern. A continental style breakfast is included in the price, thus making it exceptionally good value for money. Meanwhile, there is also a restaurant on-site offering a wide variety of meals, though I cannot attest its quality as I didn't order from the restaurant.

In terms of negatives, the beds are exceptionally short. My partner and I had to fight to prevent our feet from slipping off... Despite us being 175cm and 167cm tall, respectively. Adding to this the bathrooms could also do with renovation, due to Victoria plumbing which results in the cold water coming from a single source in multiple rooms. The bathrooms themselves are looking a little dated as well. Lastly, check-in closes at 21:30 which is exceptionally early, especially if one is catching a later flight.

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel and the excellent room I had. The review ratings on Booking.com not not match with the reality. Breakfast was very good. This hotel is the main venue to town for eating and drinking and has a busy feel in its various bars. I had dinner here which was good. The lively crowds in the evenings did not impact on my room which overlooked the courtyard of the hotel. It has a pleasant setting beside the river and in an old attractive part of the town. I was using it as a base for walking and this worked well. The bonus was an excellent local bus service.

the price of accommodation is never favourable for a single traveller. there is little difference to the price of a room for 2 but this is a problem everywhere.

Very convenient for me. Room was everything I needed for the one night. Clean. Comfortable. Shower worked well. Tea or coffee making stuff in room. Nice biscuits too. Shampoo and body wash were great. Hanging space in wardrobe with hangers. Lovely towels. Check in and out were easy.

I would like some herbal tea bags in my room. They do have them at breakfast so could put a few in the room. I usually take my own anyway but it's always nice to see some provided. Continental breakfast is ok but not abundant. Felt a bit rationed. I would like a jug of water on the table with the juice jugs as I don't take milk and like to cool my coffee a little. . 2 medium coffee jugs were not sufficient for peak breakfast time as, in about 4 cups one was empty, and not all guests tell when they used the last drop. When several guests are waiting for the refill even 2 new jugs emptied quickly.

The hotel staff were very helpful & pleasant. The main part of the hotel was very cosy, comfortable & attractive with a nice busy atmosphere. A reasonable menu was also available but there were a couple of restaurants nearby & a few takeaways. A good continental breakfast was offered too.

Unfortunately being on my own I had the smaller single room which is understandable but it was poorly lit & positioned over the beer garden. I didn't mind it was noisy but one night the noise went on with people chatting well after midnight & then they made lots of noise I think moving around in the room above me so I didn't sleep much. Would stay again but only if in another room.

The location was excellent, the bed was comfortable, and the staff were very helpful. I needed a fan, and they delivered it straight away. The room was clean, and the pub was very welcoming with a good selection of drinks. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Next time, I would bring my fire stick for the TV as a lone traveller it would have been nice to be able to watch TV. With a bit of updating to the rooms, this hotel has the potential to be fantastic.

The bathroom in my room was very outdated, and while I was having a shower, the bath filled up with water. So, I was unable to rinse out the bath after I used it. The same happened with the sink while I was brushing my teeth. For the price I paid for the room, I expected it to be a bit more up to date. The bathroom was very outdated, as was the TV. Also, a cooked breakfast option would have been nice. Although the continental breakfast was ok. Lastly, compared to other hotels, I've stopped in for the same price check out at 10:30am is very early. So, a late checkout option would have been great.

It’s a lovely historic old coaching in. The room was comfortable and we had a good night’s sleep. Breakfast was a nice touch. The restaurant was good and we enjoyed the food. Despite it being straight after the New Year, the staff were very friendly and helpful even though they must feel they could do with a break after a very busy couple of weeks.

We had a room at the front which faced the road. As they point out, it is a listed building so the windows are only single glazed and so it was a bit noisy but the traffic died down later and it was quiet for the rest of the night.

Our second time staying here. Cannot fault. Every single member of staff we’ve met has been delightful. Very courteous, friendly & helpful. Clean & warm rooms. Very comfortable beds. Decor in places like the en-suite a little faded but very clean, great shower, plenty of hot water. Continental breakfast was plentiful and kept us going until lunch. Sunday lunch is excellent & well worth trying too.

I booked out this hotel for family and friends to stay in following my wedding. The hotel staff were incredibly helpful in the booking process and did everything they could to ensure our stay was as comfortable as possible. The hotel only offered continental breakfast, but given that we had booked out the whole hotel, they agreed to do a hot breakfast on a pre-order, which was fantastic! Our family and friends also enjoyed the restaurant and bar the evening before, both areas of which are nicely designed and have a nice ambience. Some of the rooms are quite old-fashioned in terms of aesthetics, but The Lansdowne is such an old hotel, and the majority of the hotel has been recently refurbished. This also didn't impact the level of cleanliness and the quality of service, which was great. Also don't be put off by the lack of parking as there is a big car park nearby you can pay and display at, and it's very reasonable. Would recommend The Lansdowne to all looking to stay in Calne!

An excellent breakfast, much nicer than cooked. Nice variety of different foods, tea and coffee. Plenty of choice of where to sit, no queues anywhere.

Everything was nice and perfectly adequate apart from the shower over the bath. It was definitely a health hazard as very difficult to use the shower due to how it was located. As the ceiling was sloping due to what seemed as if slope for stairs outside the room, you could hit your head , knock yourself out and have a very nasty accident. If it was a largish person both in height and width I can't see them being able to use the shower. This was Room 206. Next time I stay I will not accept that room if shower still the same. Rest of room was perfectly acceptable.

A lovely place, nice old fashioned area and shops. The only downside was it being holiday and Friday/Saturday summery nights there was sometimes a high volume of merrymaking. Calne is a lovely place with a beautiful park near the hotel. We went out for dinner because it was quieter, but the hotel menu looked delicious. The breakfast was continental- good selection of cereal, toast, biscuit/cake coffee etc. People seemed to be very satisfied. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly.
