Absolutely loved everything about this stay in Kanazawa. The staff - Uchida San and Nakamiya San - were both so kind and helpful. We had great conversations with both of them who didn’t shy away from giving us great recommendations about local spots to see and eat at! Their warmth and the homeliness of the Machiya itself was refreshing after staying in hotels at our previous cities. The place is clean, spacious and authentic with the furnishing and tatami floors. The onset within the machiya was the cherry on top. Overall the location of the machiya is within walking distance to the main Kanazawa station which was very convenient.

Nothing - It was perfect

Our stay at Machi No Odoriba was simply perfect: from the moment they welcomed and checked us in to the moment we had to say goodbye. The highlight of this place is the staff. I will always remember the people I met here. They took the time to explain everything we needed to know and more about our room, the dishes we ate, the plates our food was served on and the main attractions to visit. They were always ready to answer every request and need for help. Their kindness was incomparable. But it was not just them. The room was beautiful: big and comfortable, with its own onsen. And the food was delicious: hands-down the best dinner and the best breakfast I had during my stay in Japan. Thank you for this authentic and fascinating experience!

This is a historic Ryokan (an old Samurai residence) which is extremely spacious and well designed. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms were immaculately cleaned. It has all the amenities you could need for your trip and the onsen bath tub is a highlight. It is also in a good area - about a 15 min walk to the station and a 20 mins walk to the historic districts. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and happy to give you recommendations. There is free tea and coffee for guests staying at the Ryokan.

It is a slight shame that only one of the rooms looks out on to the Japanese garden but it still feels very zen. The lights in the garden are left switched on during the night so take a sleeping mask if you have trouble with lights.

This was the most luxurious ryokan ever! We wanted a comfortable but authentic place to relax after a tour of Japan and this inn was perfect! It was so spacious and elegant, and the private garden and quiet atmosphere were so soothing and peaceful. Even though located on a quiet street it was close to shops and restaurants and the train station. The amenities were lovely. The staff was charming and so helpful and really tried to make our stay perfect. The breakfast was delicious, perfectly presented and cooked. Thank you for a perfect Japanese experience!

The rooms making up our accommodation were exceptionally lovely in every detail. The staff went over and above, so friendly and helpful, including making a last minute restaurant booking at a popular spot. They made the whole experience special and personal. The Japanese breakfast was very good, and served in a private spot in the hotel. The location of the hotel was excellent - walking distance to the station and all the sights we wanted to see.

The overall experience was excellent! 🙌🏻 The staff was very attentive, professional and always willing to help. They arranged for us the service to send all our luggage to our next destination, and also accommodated some food restrictions for my wife. The Japanese breakfast was outstanding. It was delicious and perfectly presented. The Machiya is located in a very quiet area but within a walking distance to all the main tourist attractions in Kanazawa and close to restaurants and shops. What really stands out is the attention to detail reflected in every corner of the property. Thank you for making our stay so comfortable and enjoyable. Keep up the great work! I cannot say enough about how beautiful and amazing this place is. To top it off, the staff is amazing and so kind. Our check-in was very thorough and the staff helping us made us so happy. The inside is absolute stunning. Wished we could have stayed longer. We had an early train the next day and couldn’t stay for the breakfast. They made us a bento box early to take and that was so kind of them. I hope to come back one day!

Absolutely nothing. It’s perfect.

I love the secluded charm of the location, nestled away from busy streets yet conveniently close to everything. The exclusivity and tranquility create a unique atmosphere. The spacious, traditionally adorned room blends seamlessly with the scenic landscape. Our personal hot spring bath adds a touch of luxury. The Japanese breakfast is exceptionally delicious, and the staff's incredible kindness and politeness stood out. Remarkably, when my husband left his AirPod behind, they promptly found it and sent it to our next destination in Osaka.

There aren’t any bad about this hotel.

We arrived late on the day we checked in and they were super accommodating. I’ve travelled a lot around the world and I’ve never stayed in a place so beautiful. The room was spectacular: it was very large with divisions separating each room, super well maintained, very warm and comfortable as we were staying in the winter, huge private garden, and the private onsen was a highlight. The staff were lovely and kind. The Japanese breakfasts were delicious. Would highly recommend to anyone who comes to Kanazawa!

No bad things to say about the stay!

We felt very welcome and enjoyed our stay in the beautiful old House. It is spacious, clean and very well-equipped. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom is best at the end of a long day. Yukata were given fresh each day and breakfast was delicious each day. Most of all we enjoyed the attention given by these kind and friendly people working at "Machi no Odoriba". We learned about the house and japanese culture - a treasure we'll preserve and take with us back home.

The mirror in the bathroom could be a little higher for tall men :)
