We spent one night at the Fox & Hounds after walking the Granite Way from Okehampton. Our room was really spacious with a very large double bed and one single, together with ensuite bathroom. The décor and furniture were entirely in keeping with the old property which we really liked. There was a slight crack in the sink in the bathroom but everything else was lovely. The TV was small but that is not something that bothered us. We then had a few drinks in the bar and an evening meal, all of which were really enjoyable. The lad behind the bar couldn't have been more helpful/friendly. Our room was at the back of the property and was quiet. At the front is a pretty busy road so that might have been more noisy. We opted for the cooked breakfast in the morning and it was delicious. Again, the lady serving breakfast was lovely and chatty and accommodating. Would definitely recommend the Fox & Hounds as somewhere to stay, particularly if you are walking the Granite Way. We then went on to walk into Lydford which is only a couple of miles away. Will return if we wish to stay in the area again.

Only one very small omission - no hairdryer in the room.

Breakfast was very tasty. Location beautiful and central to where we wanted to go. Staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble. We asked for the two single beds to be pushed together to make a big double before our arrival but then decided to separate them again, staff obliged speedily with no complaint. I asked for a hairdryer and was given one immediately. Staff very friendly, polite, respectful and worked very hard at making sure guests were looked after. In fact it was the staff that made the stay more enjoyable. Would definitely stay at the Fox and Hounds Hotel again.

Room was a little dated but comfortable. Passing traffic a little noisy at times but reduced after 10 o'clock.

Extremely friendly and very helpful staff, great location to stop on way home from Cornwall (breaking up the drive), brilliant communication before arrival, easy check in, great breakfast with lots of choice and freshly made, hilarious pub with lots of very friendly locals and great sticky toffee pudding, comfortable beds and very quite even though over the pub, good clean bathrooms. Excellent value for money and would definitely use it as a stop over again.

We didn't mind this at all, as just added to the charm, but the decor is very dated and the pub main courses are a bit like a pub from the '50s but it really didn't matter! However I would not go there as a romantic getaway.

Perfect for an overnight stay en route to our destination. We settled in, then crossed the road and walked to Bridestow- a very welcome stretch of the legs. I understand there is a track behind the pub but we didn't have time to explore there. We had a good value meal in the bar ( ample vegetarian choices) and a couple of drinks; the bar was lively and it was good to see it busy. We slept well; although the room overlooked the road, it wasn't too noisy, nor was the bar below us. We left before anyone else was up but the staff were kind enough to leave breakfast out for us the night before. Friendly, helpful staff, plenty of parking, clean and comfortable. Good value.

Our evening meal and breakfast was great and good value for money. The rooms was clean and spacious with an ensuite bathroom that had a full size bath, not something you normally get. Lovely soft mattress helped with a comfortable nights sleep. For my wife suffering with painful back hip and knees that was bonus.

I thought not having a front bedroom overlooking the main road would-be quitter but I turned out to be wrong. Late night noise from the kitchen below from machinery operating after the pub had shut down for the night made it difficult for me to get off to sleep despite the comfortable bed. I guess that reflected in the price. It wasn't too obtrusive I am just used to quite.

Only stayed for one night- as we were doing the Dartmoor way cycle path route- reasonably cheap- amazing breakfast very cosy little place. Would return any time- rooms clean- food amazing- portions are perfect. I would say a huge thanks specially for one of the younger staff- curly young man- he was absolutely amazing, they genuinely care- do whatever they can. Even managed to get our bike locked for overnight in the cellar 😂 Definitely can’t wish more Obviously don’t expect to be a 4 star hotel but you get a way much more than what you pay

Door frames pretty low- if you over 6 foot tall definitely mind your head, but its more charming than anyone to blame for, the building itself possibly few hundred years old so its not about like or dont like just watch out😂

The food menu was excellent and the breakfast was lovely and all reasonably priced, the staff were nice and accommodating. The room was clean and the beds very comfortable. The garden was very nice. It was easy to get to with ample parking. There was a good range of amenities close by, for example; petrol station, inns, restaurants and a farm shop all within a few miles drive. You are also pretty close to an A road which means traveling around is easy.

If you have mobility issues just note there is quite a steep set of stairs to climb to the rooms with no handrail and there was also, in the family room, a few stairs to navigate down to the ensuite. In the description it said a hairdryer would be available in the room but I couldn't find one. Whilst it is not hampering the property in any way it could definitely do with a lick of paint and a few repairs here and there.

Excellent access to WALK the high moors and the Dartmoor/Westcountry way and sustrans CYCLE route 27. On bus route( 118 Tavistock to okehampton) Accommodations to suit all needs( camping, camping barns and b&b with baths( much needed after a hard days workout!) Food was good too.

I’m fussy on overnight noise, and I would book the same room again, but feel it is good to know that you can hear cars in rooms at front of pub, but that’s expected due to its convenience. The road isn’t busy, and almost silent overnight( I slept right through with the windows open, and I’m a light sleeper)- this questionnaire asked for anything negative- that’s only thing I could think of

For such a reasonable price per night, including 2 of us and breakfast, plus a dog, it was excellent value! Great breakfast, really big - again I didn't expect that, and some choices too. Evening meal purchased in the bar both nights of our stay, and was great food, reasonably priced. Dog walk up onto the moor direct from the pub, which was great. Plenty of hot water in the bathroom so you could have a long soak in the bath, shower provided too. Comfy bed, tea and coffee. No fuss easy check in, parking, key for outside door to come and go at any time.

only an observation not a 'didn't like' as it really was outstanding value, but Just three hangers in the wardrobe, could have done with a few more. No hairdryer in room,( but I didn't ask at the bar - likely they have one they could provide) .

The location was good for cycling. Plenty of car parking and easy connection to local mountain bike routes. A very good breakfast was included. The room was a bit dated but sufficient, a comfy chair would have improved the room.

When not in the bar or restaurant we just sat on the bed edge. Not a problem unique to the Fox and Hounds but general in the UK.
