Spacious bedroom, seperate kids bedroom with bunk beds which wasn't initially clear from photos. From the photos it appeared to be all in once space. The kids bedroom even had some toys. Spacious bathroom with shower and bath with little toiletries. Really welcoming staff in the pub. Offered table for evening and breakfast in the morning. Perfect spot to stay when visiting the Matlock baths illuminations. With a 6 pound Uber in and out of Matlock baths.
We were in room 5. There may be a benefit to have a small lamp for the steps in the dark winter months. There is one over the doorway but not brilliant for lighting the steps.

The staff were really helpful. Breakfast was very good and the supply of tea bags and milk with the kettle was good. The bed was comfortable and bed linen clean and fresh. Ample power outlets and bedside lights. Pleasant garden area outside the converted stable block which housed our room
The electric shower was low powered and weak. Although the bathroom was clean, there was some long term black mould on silicon seal. The management was very new and I would expect improvements will already be in hand. The pleasure of sitting in the garden area was diminished by cigarette smoke from other guests.

The family room was excellent, roomy and my grand daughter had a room of her own, with her own little table and chairs. The food was very good. The town centre into matlock, is a bit of a walk especially up the hill, not good for people with breathing problems. Clean and tidy, good gardens with seating areas, good choice of beers wines and kids drinks
The breakfast was a bit of a disappointment. It was a very nice but not worth the money that we paid for. The place is a but out of the way but there were buses regularly to town centre.

The stable block was separated from the pub and quiet with free ample parking. The pub was the highlight. Fantastic food and service. Fresh cooked to order. We didn’t sample the breakfast as we left early but heard it was just as good as the evening meals. The drinks and food were really reasonable too. Pub quiz on Thursday night was a laugh and they put curry and rice on too. We will be back as the bedding was lovely and we slept well.
The damp smell was overpowering in room 2 despite the window open on arrival and air fresheners. The walls needed a second coat of paint but despite this we will be back but will stay in a different room. The cheap price reflects the room and therefore we accepted the smell.

Very comfortable stay. Lovely pub, clean and comfortable rooms. Very dog friendly. The locals made us feel very welcome. The new owner of 18mths has turned the pub around. Can't praise him and his staff enough. Definitely will be going back.
It's a very long walk back up the hill from the town centre of Matlock back to the hotel, I think we broke the dog. However, we were told afterwards about a bus service up and down the hill so should have checked timings.

Feel you should be charged per person not room, or the price should be lower than it is. Good location perfect for why I was in that town, room was generally clean but there was mould on walls around window and shower grouting, spacious warm room with coffee/tea available and was pleasantly surprised chocolates on pillows! Bed comfy with plenty of pillows and clean towels. Shower was not v hot. Paid extra for breakfast and pleased I did. Price was excellent and it was well cooked and plentiful. Despite the downsides I would go back because it handy location and basically I could live with the little failures as the good points outweighed them

I've stayed here several times now. Its recently changed hands and they are making improvements and updates. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was lovely and charming. Tea/coffee was available in the room as were toiletries. There was WiFi supplied too. The room was clean and had a television. The bed was comfortable and the accommodation suited my needs.
The room is quite dark - because the building is old but the lights banish the shadows. The pressure on the shower wasn't the best but that's hardly the fault of the hotel.

A clean warm room with a very comfortable bed perfect for short stays. Location was great for our trip to Haddon Hall and a mooch around Matlock. Free Wi-Fi, T.V and tea and coffee making facilities made it complete. The full English breakfast was very tasty with a variety of fruit, yoghurts, juices and bread/toast and jams. Staff were very friendly making us feel welcome.
Hot water for the bathroom sink was from an electric heater which just trickled water. The size of the sink and cold water tap style made it difficult to fill the kettle, we had to use a mug to fill it.

Good location to Matlock and countryside walks on the doorstep. Can get a bus or taxi up the hill to it from Matlock if you are unable to walk the steep hill down/up, with bus stop right outside. Friendly staff and nice food in the pub which was fairly busy but could get a table easily. Comfortable room for the time we spent in it.
Could do with a little updating in the room. The sink had a crack in it but worked still. Could do with a small blind over the small windows in the room we stayed in, which was in a barn conversion and had some tiny windows. Could also do with a mini fridge, but not essential.

With this being my second time staying here, it was mainly about location, location, location. Priced really competitively, a short distance (a few steps) from the pub and the car. Free fast internet. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room.
The bathroom didn’t have a working extractor fan and the slight smell of damp was present if the door was left open. On arrival, when we collected our keys, the member of staff seemed to be impatient and didn’t give me the impression that they liked their job. Even when we ordered drinks in the afternoon at the bar.
