Cosy and comfy house and bedrooms. It keeps the vintage decoration of the traditional antique English house, combined with modern toilets. Nice views to the green country site and mountains from the window that make you feel relaxed, specially in the dusk and dawn. The pub has a variety of food, the burger was tasty and the included breakfast really impressed me because you could choose either and full English breakfast and other options such as Benedict eggs and Royale Eggs with coffee and a natural orange juice as well. One of the best things about this place is that it's pet friendly and you can have your dog in your room and in the pub. The staff was nice and lovely.

Be patient, you might wait some time to get your dinner, but as you are in a relaxed mood and the pub is nice, it's not a big deal.

We have stayed at the Derby Arms on many occasions over time however had not been for a few years mainly owing to Covid and the fact that we had been visiting family in Australia. This visit was a last minute booking for one night only which proved to be an excellent choice. The pub had got new owners and staff who were lovely and extremely welcoming, the total feel of the place was fantastic. We had not been aware until our arrival that they were putting on a fireworks display and to see the way the staff dealt with the extra presence of customers was terrific, my goodness they all worked so hard to make people's evening special. Our room was clean and the bathroom spotless, the breakfast was amazing all in all a super stay. We'll done Derby Arms.

Nothing all good.

The derby arms is brilliant value for money, very clean and cosy! We had a room with the rolled top bath and it was stunning. Bed was really comfortable and the food was lovely too. We had a fab stay as a couple and with our two friends.

The only issue was on the Saturday night we were having drinks in the bar, and the young lad behind the bar asked if we would be ‘getting any more drinks as he wanted to take the till off at 10pm’ just made us feel really rushed and uncomfortable and it was a shame. We had spent a lot of money eating at the pub and also on drinks so didn’t really appreciate feeling rushed. Other than that it was a lovely stay and we had a great time!

Large, clean room with comfortable bed. Great location for visiting the Lake District. Staff friendly especially the lady at breakfast. Good choice of cooked food at breakfast. Evening meals also very good and the menu changed on 3 of the 4 nights we were there. Very dog friendly. We could have our dog with us at breakfast and for evening meals in the pub area.

Live music on one of the nights meant it was difficult to sleep and noisy guests in the corridor outside our room on the night of the live music. We would stay here again though.

The food was lovely we had a Sunday dinner and nice breakfast. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Some nice touches such as hand-wash, hand cream, shower gel, apple juice and complementary biscuits. All local produce. The pub was cosy with a log fire and rustic feel. We had stayed in Scotland for weekend so was just a stopover to break up the journey home so was good for what we needed.

The room we stayed in was really small we stayed with our dog luckily she was a small dog but there was no room to even move round the bed. The carpet was very tired and unclean. The bathroom floor didn’t appear to have been cleaned from the previous guest. The shower was tired all peeling where the plug was. The bed was so uncomfortable and a very old mattress kept rolling into the middle. The rooms need some renovation and could just be cleaner.

Very friendly and accommodating staff at all times of day. Easy parking and access. Food was excellent - breakfast and dinners adapted to cater for dietary requirements (gluten free) without any fuss - all food served hot and generous portions. Toiletries in room were really lovely - went and bought some for Christmas gifts! Location was ideal for visiting Grange-over-Sands, Arnside, Kendal, Lancaster, Carnforth, RSPB Leighton Moss - all only short drives away which suited us as revisiting childhood haunts!

Unfortunately Storm Debi hit on the second night we were there knocking out all electricity/power which meant no food could be served. Luckily we had food that we'd bought for a picnic the following day and so sat in our room using our mobile phones for lighting - the landlady had informed us that power could be out for up to 7 hours and she offered candles, extra blankets, hot water etc. They kindly filled our flask with hot water so could make a hot drink - plus gave me a complimentary pint! Obviously this was out of the control of the pub and was dealt with as best as they could with the limited facilities they had in the middle of nowhere!

Bed was fabulously comfortable. Welcome tray included a local apple juice which was a really nice touch. Delicious breakfast. Free Parking. Only just off a main road but surprisingly quiet. Relaxing atmosphere.

Some of the furniture had definitely seen better days and wasn't very well mended (although I did like the fact that the furnishings were antique as it felt right for the age of the building, and there were some really interesting pieces).. Other very amateur DIY fixes, such as the floor in our bathroom (the glue holding the tiles/strips had obviously not held, so they were fastened with multiple staples) detracted from the overall look.

We loved everything about our stay at the Derby Arms which is in a peaceful location. We were made very welcome by the lovely staff and the atmosphere in the old coaching inn is so relaxed. The real ales and vegetarian dinners/breakfasts were thoughtfully prepared and presented. Our room was spacious, lots of storage space, and had one of the most comfortable beds we've slept in. We'll always stay here when we're in the area, especially as the Derby Arms is a very dog-friendly place to stay. It's only a short distance to Foulshaw Moss nature reserve where you can see ospreys and many other birds, wildlife, trees and flowers.

We unfortunately got caught in a severe snowstorm. We had contact with the team at the Derby but weren't able to make it in time for check-in. We were able to make it by 3am, and when the hotel opened, we were welcomed in, accessed our room for a shower and refresh then headed down for a lovely breakfast. The staff were absolutely wonderful, welcoming and had been very concerned with our safety, which was lovely. Although we didn't stay the night, the hotel is clearly well appointed, clean, warm and comfortable and the staff are terrific. Highly recommended.
