We chose the Ellison at the last minute, as I had taken the day off to attend my graduation ceremony, and we decided to take the train to Castlebar. From the very beginning, the hotel exceeded our expectations with their exceptional care and thoughtfulness. Before our arrival, they proactively called to advise on safe driving due to adverse weather conditions caused by Storm Bert, and they reassured us with flexible check-in options in case of any delays. When we arrived, we were greeted by a magical sight, the landscape was completely covered in snow, creating a winter wonderland that took our breath away. The next morning, we were delighted by the generous breakfast spread, which offered a wide variety of sweet and savoury options to suit every taste. The hotel was bustling with students and their families gathered for the local university’s graduation ceremony, filling the hall with a lively and festive atmosphere. What truly sets the Ellison apart is the warmth and friendliness of its staff. Their genuine hospitality made our stay even more special, and we are so grateful for the wonderful experience. Absolutely everyone who works in that hotel , are so customer based & nothing is too much trouble . Car parking is excellent. The room was clean, bright & so comfortable for our 4 night stay . The bed was so comfortable, just wish we could have had a lie-in. Breakfast delicious . We had dinner Monday evening & I would 110% recommend it, it was so well presented & the lamb was so tender, got to say the best meal we have had in ages. I would go back in a heartbeat .

The deluxe room was so beautiful and spacious light and airy , bed was super comfortable , had a lot of storage and space , parking was great bonus , We literally only stayed for the night as we were at a gig next door in the TF royal , you could get to the venue through an entrance from Car park to the venue which was a great added touch , We didn’t get a chance to have food in the hotel. , we are both dying to come back and stay soon Staff were super friendly and informative at check in , so lovley and natural . Great hospitality and interaction

The hotel is very close to the center. Rooms were modern and comfortables. Staff were lovely and breakfast was very good. We went to a show in the TF Royal, Castlebar Events Theatre and it was a two minute walk to it from the hotel which was great. There was also a carpark which was great.

There wasn't a pub / bar as such, there was just a restaurant which was booked out on the night we arrived, so I would recommend booking in advance if you want to eat there. But there is no where really to sit down and have a drink or have bar food.

We received a very warm and friendly welcome from all the staff. The room was spacious clean and nicely designed with soft colours. The room was warm and extremely comfortable, and the bathroom was clean with lovely soft and fresh white towels .The meals were extremely good value and the food was that of a very high quality. There was a great choice for breakfast, something for everyone to enjoy and set you up with a good start for the day. The dinner menu again was presented with plenty of really interesting and exciting choices ,just what we needed after a memorable day of touring. It was lovely and relaxing to finish off the day with a nice drink sitting in the bar area just watching the world go by and feeling ,I wish we could stay a little longer. I certainly would recommend the Ellison for all the above reasons and i am looking forward to returning for my next well deserved break!

Hotel staff are very friendly from front of house to the cleaning staff

Unfortunately the carpark is a bit of a joke . You have free parking when a guess of the hotel which is great but unfortunately even when I gave my car registered on several occasions the barrier would not open for me and the hotel can’t over rode the system. I have to wait 5 minutes on 2 occasions for the assistance person to answer. This needs to be looked at as it causes a back log on the car park

It was very well presented and exceptionally clean , the staff were friendly and very helpful and seemed interested in why I was staying there. The room was very spacious and fantastic value for money and I will be definitely stay there again in the very near future.

There could have been more vegetarian and vegan options on the breakfast and dinner menus as I’m vegetarian but main eat vegan foods . So that would be my only thing I would say could have been better. I hope on my next visit I will see more options available to suit.

The room was lovely very comfortable beds, the dinner was fab and the Sunday lunch

The waitress and waiters were very slow, weren’t very sure about things, the buffet breakfast was basic and not very hot, and the service in restaurant for dinner and Sunday lunch was extremely slow, as a chef myself I was wondering what took so long eg dinner we waiting half hour and my husband’s steak came out rare when he asked for medium and the Sunday lunch we had to rush the food and it was lovely but took 25 minutes to come out after we ordered

We were given access to our room very early, so all those travelling with us could store their cases in our room, until theirs was ready, or they were able to transfer them to other accommodation they’d booked. In addition to this my 83 year old mother, who’d been travelling since 3.30am that morning, was able to take a rest in our room, before going to my nieces First Holy Communion. After the celebration we had a magnificent family meal together in the hotel, the food was brilliant, freshly made with amazing local produce. The receptionists were welcoming, accommodating and kind at all times. The ladies who serviced the room were brilliant, respectful and caring, they made our stay very comfortable.

I have no complaints, the hotel was excellent and accommodated our every need.

Lovely friendly staff, ease of access from the carpark Bright & very clean communal spaces Lovely room we had the Deluxe lots of space and even though we were across from the Theatre, we heard no noise or commotion.

Some of the staff at breakfast were a little dour 😟 no eye contact, no smiles ... made me feel 😌😢 But that was all we will definitely return to that hotel on our frequent trips back home to the wonderful West of Ireland 🇮🇪
