We loved everything about this accommodation. The people were super kind, the location was great, and the interior (and exterior) was gorgeous. They have a private onsen which you can book easily and was available most of the times that we wanted. The breakfast was included to our surprise and was prepared with so much love and care. On the last day we couldn’t make it to the earliest breakfast slot, so they suggested they gave us a bento box (to go) that we could take. That was already prepared and ready when we picked it up. The whole day you could grab free coffee, tea and lemonade. Overall the accommodation was so peaceful, quiet and gorgeous we would definitely stay again if we could. There was also a coin laundry included with a washing machine and a dryer. We could only use 100 yen coins but we could easily exchange those at reception.

If I had to pick one thing I guess it’s the air circulation in the rooms. There was a ventilation system, an airco and an air humidifier. But whenever we got back into the room it felt a bit humid/muggy. But that’s just a minor detail on all the positive points, and was easily fixed when the air-devices were turned on.

This is a quite well maintained property, we have our comfortable stay, the gardens was lovely and nice especially when it snows. Private Onsen considered clean. Overall it was great. For travel guide, it is great on some recommendations of food, but maybe can also have ENGLISH option?

We have to change slippers too many times, end up we forgotten which pair is for which purpose already. I hope the owner can simplify this rule or differentiate the purpose of slippers by colours. (example, black for outdoor, white strictly for indoors)

Lovely small modern ryokan in the quiet city ot Takayama. Short walk from the station and the center, the location has all that can be needed, including free coffee and tea in the common room next to a small garden. The location also has a small Onsen and decent-sized rooms. Superb breakfast alternating each day between western and Japanese style. Laundry on site. Definitely worth it!

The shoe policy within the building is a bit complicated (changin to diffetent shoes for the garden, agin for the building), but for the rest nothing to be improved!

Very nice modern Japanese style retreat. Modern self key code for lobby, common room for breakfast and relaxing, peaceful inner court garden, and a shared public bath (private use, by sign up time slots). Rooms are spacious compared to some Japanese hotels. Breakfast is bento box style with beverage buffet and good coffee! Casual and simple atmosphere. Location is a bit out of the way but within walking distance to main shopping district. We signed up for a local food demo by Don, an izakaya owner. Very informative and tasty and he even introduced us to local specialty stores since he knew shopownwers. Sanno Festival on its first day was very crowded but worth seeing the handcrafted floats up close.

The reservations we made had no changes and no refunds at all. I assumed it was due to the Sanno Festival happening that weekend. Glad we got this room! So maybe an unavoidable problem.

Cozy modern Japanese hotel located at a walking distance from Takayama bus and train station. We loved staying here and we would choose it again if we ever come back to Takayama. The staff was really welcoming, we were given lots of information on what to see and where to have food. Breakfast was included but we were leaving really early in the morning so they prepared our breakfast for take away the night before and was left in our fridge. This was very kind of them and we feel grateful for it. The private Onsen was also really enjoyable and a lovely experience. Thank you 🙏🏼

Love everything- breakfast, futon beds, snowflakes falling in Japanese Garden, authentic onsen, strict shoe policy, Cookies in the room:) the stuff all were nice) location is great as station and supermarket is nearby, for old city we were talking taxi as we have small kids

Extremely clean, spacious room and bathroom, ample facilities and a great shared lounge space with free tea and coffee. The breakfast bento was DELICIOUS! 😋 The private onsen could be booked for 2 x 30 min time slots (night and morning ) per day and it was lovely in winter. A perfect place to stay when visiting Takayama or nearby areas. Great location and close to many restaurants, convenience stores and train station also. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Everything about this place is comfortable, convenient and exceeded expectations.

Walls are a bit thin, as expected in a ryokan, so light sleepers may hear snoring or talking at night from adjacent rooms. However the beds are extremely comfortable 😊

Conveniently located, efficient and friendly service. Nice personal touches were found throughout the property and inside the rooms, which truly added to the entire experience. The check-in process was breezy but did not feel rushed at any point. The innkeeper was very friendly and provided us with all the information we needed for our stay. The rooms were clean, elegant and cozy; I especially appreciated the lighting choice - it provided a very warm and comforting feel. The beautiful outdoor garden along with the private heated bath were also highlights that make you realize - Wow, I'm really in Japan. The breakfast was spectacular, and easily a meal that I still think about constantly, despite the fact that my stay was one month ago. Check-out was extremely easy, and our great night's rest provided us with all the energy we needed to venture off to our next stop in Gifu. Thank you Ichinomatsu Japanese Modern Hotel for your hospitality. My partner and I would love to stay here again the next time we are in Takayama.

Staff is very friendly, breakfast is really good and the private onsen was an absolute highlight so far on our japan trip. It’s just perfect. Room was spacious enough for the two of us and the hotel is located about a 15 minute walk from the main sights in Takayama. Hotel is very easy to find as well, google maps directions are perfectly fine and accurate.

Arguably on the „wrong side“ of the train station so you would have to walk a little to reach the city centre but it’s only a 15 minute walk. Then again only a 6 minute walk to the train station which is nice.
