I stayed in Otantik with my two daughters, ages 5 and 7. Rooms: The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, the air conditioner worked well, and the room was nice and cool after getting back from the heat of the city. The shower had shampoo and shower gel and didn't have any problems when we showered. Breakfast: Breakfast was great. There was a good variety, and we all found something to eat, which is a wonder because usually I have to fight with my children to eat something. The host was very understanding when the children couldn't choose between tea or juice and was happy to bring both. The breakfast consisted of honey, bread, jam, butter, cheeses, olives, a local ham type thing, an omelet, tea/coffee/juice, cucumbers, tomatoes, and watermelon. The host was happy to bring more if we weren't full, but with such a selection, it was hard not to be. Location: The location was great. The grand bazaar was not far away, but uphill. which is perfectly normal for Istanbul. You need to walk up a hill if you want to get somewhere. The other sites were probably around 20 minutes away by foot, but there's also a tram station close by which can get you there faster. The restaurants, however, were not uphill and super easy to get to, which was a relief for the children. There were hundreds of restaurants to choose from as well! There was also a small shop nearby where you could get snacks and water. Money exchange: we found the best one was next to the shop COLINS. It's worth going up that hill to exchange money because the exchange rate next to the restaurants was worse. Early check out: we had to check out at 5 am. We were given sandwiches since we would miss breakfast, and I even asked for some cucumber and watermelon, as I had empty containers with me, which were filled with healthy snacks for the children. Overall, we felt very welcome. The owner and his son always greeted us with a smile.
The only tiny improvement that could be done is to have some tea in the room, not only coffee. Also, the socket couldn't handle the tea kettle being switched on and kept switching off. I'm sure this is something that can be easily fixed, but I didn't have the time to ask about it as we were heading off for our flight that morning.

I have stayed at dozen of hotels in Istanbul. This was on the top of the list of best stays/experiences ever. We really loved the character of the hotel. Staff: was very hospitable and there for every need of mine. The nicest staff I have ever encountered at a hotel. Location: Loved the downtown location and atmosphere. Just about name it and you’re within walking distance. Rooms: Beautifully clean rooms, and has a lot of comfort items to make you feel at home. Check-in/Check-out: Both check-in and check-out were professionally handled and easy. They were extremely accommodating and allowed us to check in early at like 0700am. Breakfast: Breakfast was delicious and offered with a wide variety of food.

The family running the guesthouse is lovely, friendly, helpful, and will do their best to make your stay as pleasant as possible. You will be app. 20 mins away by foot from main Istanbul attractions. Beds and pillows are comfortable. Facilities are clean. Breakfast is ok, and they are so nice to prepare it for us even if we slept past the serving hours. Also they arranged cheaper taxi to take us to airport when we left. All in all, it feels like you are staying in someone's home, a home that isn't perfect, big or new, but it's clean and safe and you are treated nicely. :)
The room (3 beds) is really, really small. The curtains don't stop the light in the morning, make sure to bring blinders. The neigbourghood is dirty and rough, although I loved it cause it made me feel the city authentically, but it might not be for everyone. As soon as you turn off air conditioning, the room gets freezing cold. But let's not forget that for such a low price you really can't expect it to be perfect!

Lovely family run business. Greeted and checked in by the father. No lift in the hotel but the hosts carried up all our luggage and served tea at checkin. Breakfast was so delicious, clean and hearty felt like we were at a family home. Yusuf and Hussain (main English speakers) were very courteous, respectful and informative. Able to get laundry service that was fairly priced. We stored our luggage at the hotel for a short trip to Bursa. The hotel was close to Kumkapi metro station (5min walk) that can bring you to all the main sites and ferries.
Son had allergies in the room, not sure what caused it. Quite challenging to climb up 4 floors, but it was good exercise, carpeted padded stairs. May be challenging for those with mobility issues.

I enjoyed our little bedroom, it’s small but it’s enough for a couple of days! Aircon works perfectly. In the room there is also a kettle with some tea bags and coffee, which is always useful. Mattress is a bit hard, you can like it or not, I honestly liked it and I could sleep without any problem (and usually I struggle to fall asleep if the bed is not comfortable!). Breakfast is prepared everyday by the owners, with lot of love, and it’s very good and typical. The staff in this place is incredibly nice, they are always smiling and ready to help you, always available for everything, I am so grateful for choosing this hotel for my holiday. The neighbourhood is great, I didn’t find it super touristic so I could taste a bit of the Turkish lifestyle. However, the road to take the main tram is uphill (around 10 minutes walking).
There is no elevator but the owner helped me and carried my luggage upstairs.

We really enjoyed our stay at Otantik. The hosts were awesome and truly made the experience unique by making useful recommendations and helping us with planning our days in the city. Someone was always available while they helped us with everything we needed. The room was really nice. Clean and comfy with nice lighting. The bed was comfortable and quite large. The bathroom was relatively small but very clean. There was always hot water available. We visited in November and it was quite cold outside, the room was nice and warm while there was also an AC available. Location was great, allowing you to walk to Haya Sofia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace (15-20 minutes) the Grand Bazar (10 minutes) and the Egyptian (Spice) Bazar (20-25 minutes). Two metro stations are also relatively nearby. Also, there is a grocery store within 2 minutes of the hotel. The building was beautiful and cosy. Breakfast was great, filling and accompanied by tasty cups of coffee and / or tea. Overall we enjoyed our stay at Otantik and recommend it!
There was a lot of walking involved, which we did not mind, that may turn some people off.

This family really knows how to run a business. They are always friendly, ready to give you good advices and to make you feel like at home. They make you feel like they opened the doors of their house for you. We really appreciated that. The father of the family doesn't speak much English, but this is not a problem as he is very communicative and we always uderstood each other. He suggested us one of the best lokantasi in Istanbul and we thank him a lot for that. The two sons are very nice and they speak very good English. The communication with the Hotel before our arrival was perfect. They always reply timely manner. The room is good. The location is perfect: well connected to public transports and on foot to a lot of turistic attractions, but still not in the middle of a super turistic area, therefore restaurants and shops around didn't have the "tourist" prices. The breakfast was amazing and served in a very cosy area of the Hotel. We will defently go back and suggest this hotel to all friends travelling to Istanbul.

The biggest impression are the hosts, which were so friendly and helpful, really made our stay easier and more relaxed. Then the location which is near one of the most important sites that you’re gonna want to visit for sure like Topcapi and Hagia Sophia. There is also a street very near with lot of lovely affordable restaurants so if you wanna eat in the neighborhood you can also do that. As far as the accommodation goes, it’s very lovely old school style but very clean.
The streets near the hotel are full of stores with cheap stuff which of course is good because you can go shopping in the neighborhood, but they are a little bit messy in comparison to the rest of Istanbul which is very clean ☺️ However that’s nothing that would affect my wish to go back and stay in Otanik again!

The attention of the staff and the hiapitality, very kind!. They welcomed us with a tea and offered laundry service. Breakfast according to the quality price. The cleanliness of the rooms is very good!
Maybe to say something, the stairs if you stay in an upper room and have mobility difficulties. It would be ideal if the desk included a small lamp for those of us who work remotely. The rest all right. If you are looking for value for money, it is totally worth it.

A lovely family run guesthouse, very well located within walking distance to amenities, restaurants, shops, tourist attractions, tram. Yusuf and his family were incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable. As a female solo traveller I felt very safe in this location walking about all times of day. The room was very comfortable and perfect for my visit. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
Istanbul is a bustling busy city with people and traffic and therefore can be a little noisier at night / in the morning - but this did not in anyway effect my stay or the property.
