The hotel is located at a nice view in front of the lake. Access to the pier and surrounding services are only a few steps. Likewise, town center is a few steps from the other side. Breakfast is included and is fine. Room service may require improvements, phone line was broken and was not attended during our stay. Room price is somehow high compared to hotel ranking. It looks like we have paid for the location.

Great location, central to everything needed, pleasant surroundings and the staff were very pleasant too. A great breakfast, welcome and depart and it was good that we checked in and were helped with the parking. We were given 2 days parking but charged for one as we arrived at 3pm for check in and to not rush after breakfast! Good thinking! Generally good decor in shared spaces, lots to see around the hotel and comfortable and cosy.

The bathroom was very tired and not kept as well as expected. Some things on checking in that you would expect to be informed about weren't (breakfast time and location, as examples) and we had to find out ourselves (no info in the room).

Excellent location. Car parking. Lovely lounge. Friendly staff most of time. On raining days, the hotel has umbrella to lend us.

There was no water from the tap one night, so couldn't take a shower... On our arrival, we were 50 mins earlier than standard check-in time; despite the room was ready and available, another reception staff told off the lady who serviced us not to check in us and insisted to ask her colleague let us waiting for the standard check in time. Well, we appreciate the professionalism and stick to the rules, but it would be great to have some certain degree of flexibility and being extra friendly on the raining day...

The position of this hotel is beautiful, and I was very lucky and grateful to have been upgraded to a 'lake view' room when I arrived, which was a lovely surprise! The view was spectacular. Good size room, very comfortable bed and large bathroom. All the staff I interacted with were very polite, friendly and professional.

The hotel in general is in need of a bit of a 'spruce' - it's tired in some places, although still very comfortable. The bath plug, for example, kept locking shut so wouldn't drain water without me removing it. Creaky floor boards and some issues getting the television to work. Only minor things, but they add up to make a difference.

I booked the hotel for my sister's 60th Birthday. She had always wanted to stay there as a child and we finally got to stay there. I asked for a bottle of prosecco to be put in the room for our arrival and this was arranged. From checking in by Charlie to checking out, the service was first class. Wonderful breakfast and service by Driss. Then we were given a tour of the hotel by John who told us about the history. He was so passionate about the Belsfield. The view from our room of the Lake was breathtaking and we didn't want to leave. Beautiful gardens and a joy to have a drink on the lawn looking out over Windermere. The Belsfield and staff created special memories for my sister and I and fulfilled childhood dreams.

Leaving. Just a point we do feel that parking should be included with the price of the stay.

The location and view were superb. We enjoyed the view of Lake Windermere from the lounge inside and the garden outside. The hotel ambience was really good. The lounge, dinning and bar areas were well maintained and the garden was beautifully kept.

The service at dinner and breakfast and also at the bar was not upto the mark. The bar tender was too slow and inexperienced. You seemed to have been understaffed. There were too few staff serving during the dinner time- also at the breakfast time, which resulted in a long wait. The staff were trying their best but to be fair to them it was impossible for 2/3 people to serve all. We were not impressed with the quality of dinner menu on our first night. So we dined elsewhere on the second night.

Breakfasts were good & hot breakfast cooked to order. Good selection. Breakfast dining room besutiful views from window seats. Hotel ina great location above Bowness Bay. Staff very good, pleasant and helpful.

I suppose you get what you pay for. A bigger window area to take in the beautiful views over Windermere would have been nice. More bathroom, toilet & shower space would have been nice. When booking you don't actually know what you are getting regarding space.

The location was wonderful. The staff were fantastic. The food was good

The property is in need of some repair. Our room had a lovely view but was small for the price we paid. Carpets were stained, the bath panel needed replacing. Photos of the rooms are deceptive! No double glazing so drafty windows. The coffee machine was broken and there was a dreadful smell in the room which materialised on the second day. Although I understand that it may be a listed building some investment in the infrastructure is definitely needed.

Expected the hotel to be a bit 'faded glory' and provincial hotel-ish, but it was far from that. It was spotlessly clean throughout, fairly recently redecorated, and with great facilities/location. Staff were utterly charming and helpful, dinner in the restaurant delicious, cocktails (made to order) bang on, and the setting was glorious: magnificent views from all the public rooms looking over the pier and Windermere. Our Classic Double bedroom didn't have much of a view (wasn't promised to have), but was extremely comfortable with great facilities and thoughtful extras eg Tassimo coffee machine, night light in the bathroom, fan etc. Parking is free for residents (subject to registering your car on arrival - don't forget!); given the difficulty and cost of parking in the Lake District this is an added bonus.

Dinner menu doesn't change daily/no specials; it would probably encourage more repeat visits from guests if this was amended, but not the end of the world - lots of good dishes to choose from.

The location

Breakfast - one morning we ordered ‘eggs’ benedict, we received one small slice of brioche with one poached egg a little ham swimming in sauce, I’ve never received one egg for ‘eggs’ Benedict. Next morning we decided on the full english - sausage was hard and of a solid texture, the fried egg yoke was hard, scrambled egg wasn’t scrambled enough and I’m still trying to decide how the slice of bacon had been cooked ‘microwaved’ I would think, it certainly had not been grilled or fried. For a 4* hotel I would expect better quality of food than we had and also charging £15 a night for parking car in hotel car park was a disgrace.
